It was a little chilly outside, far too cold for a dip in the waters of an outdoor pool. But still, Ciúin insisted on swimming. He hadn't gone in what seemed like ages due to the brisk temperatures. Now he was going stir crazy, and thus driving his sister, Bleez, into more of a rage than she normally was. To alleviate the tension in the house (because Bleez was actually home for once), Moira decided that taking Ciúin to the local indoor pool was the best option.

Ciúin pressed his palms against the glass door of the entry to the pool, more anxious to jump into the waters than anything. "You're going to 'ave to move, 'un." Moira chuckled as she pulled the door open so they could both enter. Ciúin bounded past the main desk and into the kiddie pool area. Moira just shook her head and paid for the two of them, then followed his lead.

When the Gluttony boy reached the water's edge he dipped a clawed toe into the water. A pleasant shiver shot up his spine and he wanted to jump right in. A firm hand on his shoulder prevented him, however. Ciúin's head jerked up to Moira saying he needed to get out of his coat and outer wear before diving in. He complied without a word, but literally threw his clothes off and flopped himself in the water, very content. A relieved sigh escaped Ciúin's lips as he floated along on his back. It was good to be embraced by the cool water.

“I can’t wait to get in the water daddy!” Áróra exclaimed, completely unable to contain her glee at the thought of swimming in a pool. It would be a completely new experience for her, swimming like the fishies. She couldn’t help but feel that today was a stepping stone to her one day swimming in the ocean with them. That thought brought a smile to her face; she didn't even realize that she had stopped walking towards the entrance and was just standing there with a grin spread across her face.

“You still want to go?” Vilyum asked looking at her motionless form from a few feet ahead of her.

“Yes! I was just thinking of swimming with the fishies one day,” she blurted out as she rushed to catch up with him. Upon catching up with him she queried,“Daddy, how well can you swim?”

“Well, I don’t want to be too boastful, but I swim as well as a fish I imagine,” he replied as he opened the front door of the indoor pool. Áróra scurried through the doorway and to the main desk with Vilyum close behind. After paying, they both proceeded to make their way to the kiddie pool. As soon as they arrived, Áróra flung her flip flops under a chair and tossed the long shirt, that she had been wearing over her swimsuit, on the top of it. Without a word she jumped into the pool, sinking an inch or two before being thrown back to the surface.

Barely stifling a chuckle, Vilyum inquired “Did you forget to put on your water weights, Áróra?”

“Possibly,”
Áróra responded as she slid across the surface of the water, back to Vilyum. Once she made it out of the pool, Vilyum helped her strap several weights to her body; one around each limb and one around her waist. After checking that they were all strapped firmly, Áróra jumped in again, inadvertently splashing a boy who had been floating nearby.

"H-hey," Ciúin stuttered as he was surprised by the splash. He stood, his large, rather heavy stature towered over the smaller child. The golden wings on his back shuttered, sending water droplets everywhere. A sigh escaped as the Gluttony boy wiped a tanned hand over his face, removing the excess water. He'd been content to float along peacefully, letting his tail flicks take him wherever. But his peaceful retreat was interrupted.

Ciúin sank back into the water, letting the liquid cover his ears so he could hear this young... girl properly. "Hello," he said flatly. He wasn't sure what else to say, so he spun around slowly, dunking his face in the lovely-feeling water before looking back at this colorful little spawn.

Áróra winced; as she realized that she had accidentally splashed the boy. Hanging her head down in shame, she whimpered, “I’m sorry. I didn’t see you there. It was an accident....” After a brief pause, she looked up and asked, “Can you ever forgive me?” A look of sorrow plastered across her face, she then plopped down, as if to sit, her buoyancy, however, causing her to bob up and down, despite the addition of her water weights.

After a moment of bobbing, she looked up at the boy and held out her hand to shake. “I’m Áróra by the way,” she stated lightly and then added, “You have a very nice tail; does it help you swim? I have trouble swimming….. My body doesn’t like to sink.”

"My name is Ciúin," he sighed, "And, yes, I forgive you." He was starting to feel guilty for being so short with the little girl, especially since she was being so nice to him now. "I am sorry for snapping at you. Can you forgive me?"

"Sinking is not a good thing in water. You might drown if you sink," Ciúin lay on his back and again floated. "My tail helps me steer, more than anything." A quick flick of his tail in one direction caused him to drift to one side. "Like that."

“Hello Ciúin! Thank you for forgiving me!” she exclaimed, a smile now spreading across her face. “You don’t have to apologize for anything,” Áróra returned, “It was all my fault; I should of paid more attention when I jumped in!”

“Well, I wouldn’t want to drown, but without these weights,” she explained as she pointed to one of the weights wrapped around her arm, “I am stuck at the surface, just floating there; it really is annoying when I try and take a bath and float on the surface. Daddy says it is because I have a very low weight and that I am not dense.” She then added, as she pointed towards Vilyum, “That’s daddy, his name is Vilyum.”

Watching him steer with his tail, she replied with a giggle, “Wow! That looks like it would come in handy! I don’t have a tail but I would like to get one!”

The bi-colored eyes of the spawn boy slowly looked to where Áróra had pointed. "My mother's name is Moira," he stated, rather flatly. "She is the one reading the book over there." At the sound of her being mentioned, the red-haired Irish woman looked over to Ciúin, smiled, and waved. When she was satisfied that she wasn't actually needed for anything, she went back to her book.

Ciúin didn't move, other than floating lazily, for a good while. Awkward silence didn't really strike him as awkward. However, he did want to get to know this girl a little more, she seemed very unique, even for a spawn. "So you have to wear weights instead of floaties?" he decided to ask, not thinking it too rude to pry. "That is different." It didn't really dawn on him that what he just said could be taken wrong, but he continued. "I am different too. I cannot hear properly outside of water."

Scanning the surroundings, she spotted the woman who waved in response to Ciúin’s words. Smiling at the woman, she waved as well and said, a bit loudly, “Hello Moira!” With a giggle, she returned her attention to Ciúin.

“Yes, I have to wear weights instead of floaties,” she replied. “If I don’t,” she continued as she started to unstrap the weights on her limbs and waist, “I Just bob to the surface.” As she removed the last of the weights, she buoyed onto the surface as they sunk to the bottom. “See,” she muttered with her head tilted to the side, as she lay on the surface of the water in a prone position, “I just am stuck on the surface.” With a deep exhale, she dug her hands into the water and struggled to swim downwards against her natural buoyancy. After a moment of strenuous, downward motion, the weights were within reach. Fastening them back in place, she righted herself in the water and added with a giggle, “They aren’t really enough weight to make me sink, just enough so that I don’t plop to the surface whenever I am in the water.” Thinking about his comment regarding his hearing, for a moment, she asked, “You can’t hear well out of water? Would it be better if I talked into the water? Could you hear me if we weren’t near water if I talked louder?”

Ciúin watched with interest and mild amusement as Áróra illustrated her situation. He would've been more than willing to have helped her retrieve her weights, but she seemed rather independent for such a little thing.

"I can hear fine if my ears are in water." He pointed to his ears, "That is why I have been staying in the water for most of our conversation." He paused, trying to gather himself to explain how his condition affected his hearing. In truth, he didn't know why or how, he just knew what sounds sounded like both when he was out of water and in water. "When I am out of water, I cannot hear things well. They sound all mushed together and nothing it distinct." He paused again, trying to think of what to relate it to. But since he'd never had perfect hearing to begin with, he had nothing to liken it to for her. A little defeated feeling in his explanation, he finally just said, "Everything I hear is gibberish."

Áróra remained uncharacteristically still as she listened to his explanation. After he finished, she inquired, “So, they all mush together? If we were out of the water and I talked more slowly, would they be less mushy mush? Or would that not make any difference?” After a moment’s pause, she suddenly burst out, “Oh! In TV shows I have seen people who couldn’t hear read lips! Can you read lips at all?” She couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like not to be able to well. For everything to be squished up and all discombobulated. Then for a moment, she became slightly distracted, thinking how amusing the word discombobulated was, though she wasn’t quite sure if she was using it correctly, but that wasn’t really important, since she was just thinking it and she knew what she meant. Suddenly snapping out of it, to return to the topic that had started it all, she tried covering her ears with her hands and listening to all the people around her, it wasn’t quite the same effect, but it was the best she could think to do.

"No, it does not help if people speak slower," Ciúin stated simply, "I still cannot make out the words they say."

At Áróra's question, he sat up in the water, his ears no longer submerged.
He was tall enough to have his whole head remain out of the water, unless someone made a wave. "I can read lips. It is harder to do than what you might think, but I have been practicing. I learned how at the facility." His wings continued their shivering, seemingly trying to reach for the dry air. He had luckily been so engrossed in his and Áróra's conversation, that he had forgotten about the annoyance they caused him, even now.

Ciúin tilted his head in curiosity as the girl's covering of her ears. He couldn't read minds, though he guessed she was trying to see what it'd be like to hear like he did. The effect was similar, but it'd really be more like have water in you ears perpetually.

“Oh ok,” she replied, slightly disappointed that it wouldn’t work. She had kind of hoped she had stumbled upon a solution.

Well, it seemed her little experiment has been a futile effort, she realized. Certainly she had trouble hearing while her hands were covering her ears, but it was certainly not like the effect that Ciúin described. After trying her little experiment, she realized that the boy was standing in the water. “Wow, you are tall!” she exclaimed and then added, as she bobbed in the water, “I haven’t hit a decent growth spurt yet. Maybe one day I will be real tall!” Suddenly an excited look spread across her face. “So you can read lips and they taught you at the facility? I am going to be going to the facility soon! Daddy say’s I have an appointment to learn to fly! Right now all I can do with my wings is just hover in place. Maybe soon, though, I will be soaring in the skies! What was your teacher like? Were they nice?" She seemed really excited about it at first, but then started to trail off, "I’m looking forward to it and all, but, well, I am kind of nervous about it.”

"I have always been tall." he stated, sinking back into the water so he could hear her rather than having to read her lips. He found it much more refreshing, being able to listen to others while they spoke, even if they weren't the owner of the Perfect Voice. As he sank back down into the cool water, Ciúin's wings shuttered. He ignored it as best he could as he focused on listening to Áróra again.

"Flying? That sounds like it would be fun. I cannot fly with my wings or even hover, I think I am too big and they are too small." A hint of annoyance was in his voice as he spoke about his worthless wings. "My teacher was okay, I guess." Ciúin really didn't get enough time to get to know his teacher.

"There is a person at the facility," Ciúin started, never having told anyone of his mission. He spoke softly, so only Áróra could hear him and that was barely. "This person has the most perfect voice I have ever heard!" The irony of him hearing was not lost on him as his cocked his head to the side and a tiny grin pulled at the corners of his mouth. "When I was at the facility, before I went home with mother, I heard the Voice. It was the Perfect Voice." His tone picked up, speaking of something that he cared about. "I tried to find the person when I was there, but I could not." His grin failed and he sank further into the water. "I wish I could find them."

“I hope it is fun; I may not be able to swim in the water without these weights, but I may be able to swim through the sky,” she replied with a smile and a sigh. After a few moments of running her arms through the water, she continued, “I’m sorry you can’t fly or hover with your wings and they are pretty wings, by the way. Actually, even though I am not as big as you, my wings would probably be too small to fly properly, if I didn’t weigh so little for my size. Maybe as you get older, your wings will get bigger? Oh! Daddy says that when I am older, I can go to the facility to learn magic! Could you learn…um...like wind magic, to help you fly? I was playing a video game the other day and they had this spell, float, which made even people without wings float. If you could cast a spell like that, you could probably fly, using your wings to move you about while floating! You wouldn’t have to worry so much about your size that way!”

“Really? What does the voice sound like?” she couldn’t remember hearing anything like that, during her time at the facility, but now she wanted to. “When I go for my class, would you like me to try and hear this voice? If I hear anything I could tell you!” she happily exclaimed while nodding. She really hoped that she could help Ciúin find his perfect voice.

"From what I have read, I can learn fire and water-based magics. My demon part is naturally good with water magic and my angel part is good with fire magic. At least, that is what I know. I do not know if I could learn how to fly or float in the air." Ciúin supposed it was possible for him to learn flying magics, but wasn't sure how hard it would actually be. To be honest, though, he had NO clue how to use magic, or where to start. His sister, Bleez's magic powers weren't even elemental-based, so there was no telling how many magics were out there and how many he could even learn. As for video games, he was about to ask what those even were, when Áróra suggested helping him.

"Would you?" Ciúin's face lit up at Áróra's offer to help him find the Voice he sought so hard for. "I would be eternally grateful!" His tail wagged in the water, causing a ripping behind him. If he hadn't had his clawed feet firmly on the bottom of the pool, he probably would've floated right into Áróra. "The voice is very deep, a kind of sounds like water." As he spoke, a genuine smile quickly spread across his lips. "It is powerful and strong, like the ocean. I think it can command water, even!" Ciúin acted like the excited child he was, bobbing in the water as he bounced on his toes. "It has to be a guy's voice, not a lady's!" He tried to think of something else to say, but words failed him as he got goosebumps just thinking of the Voice.
