It would be SOOO easy to just walk away. Hell, he'd walked away several times and always come back (usually with food) but now that he knew he was a slave, it was far more tempting to just not come back at all. The large red lion with demonic wings on his sides had a dark expression on his face as he hauled the antelope he'd caught into the pride, tossing it forward for whoever was hungry. He'd eaten, not from this one, but from a smaller catch earlier in the day. "Grubs on," he called, wondering if they knew he was a slave. Nobody had informed him before Hardships had. Maybe if they didn't know, he could get away--

Mneme heard the call from the new addition to their small pride. He was a bright red male with markings that made her overly wary. He didn't seem that bad, though. She tried to recall his name off the top of her head... Nimbasa? No, that wasn't right. Shimsa? No, no, still not right. Shibasa! Shibasa was his name, although she never used it. She would simply approach him and start speaking, telling him what she would need him to do and when she needed him to do it. She preferred not to get mixed up with him, mostly because she was quite shy around males. She was even quite shy around their God, Xavier.
"Good work," Mneme said quietly, glancing up at him quickly before averting her eyes. His markings bothered her. They made him look intimidating, almost evil, although he had never done anything to suggest such things. If anything, his only crime was possibly being overzealous with women.
"Our Gods will be pleased with you," She continued, picking at the food before her, "They may even promote you early."
She knew Shibasa's place in the pride. He was a slave to them the moment he walked into their territory, but she never actually called him one. Something about calling him a slave didn't settle right with her, and it made her uneasy, like when she was going through the Rogue Lands alone with her sister. Where was her sister?

"Which one? The one that called me a b*****d like him, or the one that got pissed at me just the other day?" he asked dryly, looking at the blue female thoughtfully. "You're scared of me," he said more quietly. "But I'm the slave here, honey."
He probably shouldn't call his "masters" honey, huh? He shrugged that thought off and looked around for Nobo. The vulture was nowhere to be found. He had probably stayed behind to finish off Shibasa's meal--oh, wait, slaves were supposed to eat last, right?
"Although I really suck at it," he admitted. He felt... abandoned amongst strangers without his vulture.

Mneme averted her gaze once again from Shibasa. She hated confrontations of any kind. From even a young age confrontation followed Mneme. It followed her and her two sisters, causing them to loose everything. Mneme's older sister lost her life. Mneme's youngest sister, as well as herself, lost their entire pride to confrontation and violence. What was worse is that it was all caused because they were born. She didn't want anymore confrontation in her life.
"You shouldn't talk badly of them. They've been through their struggles, as have many of us here," She said quietly once more, peeking back at him with her deep blue eyes. They were like whirlpools, taking in everything she saw and sucking it down deep into her soul, "My name's Mneme. Not Honey."
She didn't mean to sound snappy, but it bothered her when people acted overly familiar with her. She didn't know him, and he certainly knew very little of her. It just seemed inappropriate. It made her feel a little dirty too.
"...There's no right way to be a slave... to anything," She said quietly, "We're slaves to circumstance, nature, even each other. We really don't have control over our lives."

"That's a nice attitude," he drawled. Why was he part of this pride? Seriously. This fatalistic female was one of the few females around, and she wanted to lecture him on hardships, as if he'd never had any. But what was worse--infinitely worse--was that she expected him to just accept the s**t that happened to him and do nothing? What. The. Hell?
And where the hell was Nobo? He needed his freakin' sidekick! "Look, Mneme," he said in a quieter tone. "If I didn't agree to this, do you really think I'd still be here? I'm choosing to act as slave to a couple of females and a handful of cubs. Or do I look so weak I can't live on my own?"
He let her look him over, if she wanted to. His healthy fur, his filled out muscles. He even glanced at the meat he had caught and brought to the pride on his own. "I have enough control over my life to change it if I want to. And if life gives me the short end of the stick I'm going to do my best to fix it, no matter how long it takes me. And trust me, I'm pretty sure it'll take a while."

"You sure don't act like someone who wants to be here," Mneme said coolly, finding herself a twinge annoyed with Shibasa.
Lots in life. Some people had control over them, and others merely had the unfortunate luck to sit back and watch as their's was chosen for them. It was disheartening and somewhat annoying to listen to the tone he gave when he spoke of his duties and their gods, when he himself had just said he chose this. In Mneme's mind you don't get the right to fuss and complain when you chose a path for yourself. Only when its chosen for you do you get the right to whine.
The ultramarine lioness picked at the food in front of her in little portions. The more she spoke with Shibasa the more she found herself losing her appetite. He made her nervous and agitated all at once. She wished her sister's were with her right now.

He stared at her. "Is this because I said that stuff about the gods? That wasn't me complaining, that was just me telling the truth," he said. "How often have you talked with them?" he asked her, trying to put this together in his head. "I meant really sat down and chatted with them? I've met Hardships before, she's a nice lady. But that doesn't mean I can't piss her off."
He went on, "And spend some time with Cursed, really listen to him instead of just watching him in awe, focusing on the fact that's he's a god and more powerful than you are."
He wanted to grab her by the shoulders and shake her, yelling for her to open her eyes. But what he was saying was making her more and more uncomfortable, he could see it easily. It was as if she thought being in the pride would just make raw reality, like that found in the rogue lands, disappear. Was that what a pride was all about?

"They have names," Mneme said, another bit of agitation showing. "Xavier and Abla."
She wanted to smack this male upside his head and scream forever into his ear. He just didn't get it, and that was probably why he thought he had the right to complain about anything he wished. His thoughtless words were what made things hard on himself. Maybe if he took the time to think of how others would react to them, but Mneme already felt that was asking far too much of the red male before her.
"You talk as if I've never spoken to the individuals who I decided to dedicate my existence to," She said, her tone starting to dryly match his own. She hated confrontations, but his tone and his words were making her feel backed in a corner and she felt the growing need to defend her choice, her pride, and her gods.
"Perhaps the reason you've made Goddess Abla so angry is your careless use of words," Mneme said, feeling she was too sick to eat and looking away from the food, "For this whole conversation you've talked and talked, but still haven't said anything. I even attempted to be nice to you by complimenting what you drug back and the only thing you responded with was an asinine comment about the individuals who could kill you if they so wished."
She looked back to him, more fire in her cool blue eyes than in his coat, "Do you put no thought into what you say? Or are you so uncaring that you would sling words around without thinking of the consequences of them?"
She felt like retching right now.

He blinked, then, shockingly, laughed. "You're probably right," he said, the first agreeable thing he had done during the whole conversation. "Just like Hardships... Abla said, that's probably why Ubuge took a piece of my soul," he added, honestly amused.
"Hey, maybe that part had the 'giving-a-damn' aspect of me in it, too," he added. "Maybe if... Xavier can get me that back you and I could get along!" Which clearly wasn't happening right now. He shook his head and caught sight of his bird.
"There he is," he said. "Enjoy your meal, ma'am, I'll make sure not to talk to you about things that make you nervous again." Or talk to her at all, he decided, starting for the vulture. Everyone would be happier if that happened.

Mneme said nothing. This male, this Shibasa... He was an oddity. He made her feel he truly didn't care, especially the part about his soul being taken. Even if his soul was taken, it didn't excuse much. Goddess Abla told him maybe it was taken because his words were used so carelessly, and if that was indeed the reason than it would make no difference, correct? He didn't care even than... even before.
Mneme couldn't eat anymore, she needed to be rid of his presence. He made her want to yell at him and she hated yelling at anyone. It was best she remove herself from him right now. Get away from him and go talk to Ni, or even Najisi. Someone who was not this man.
She made a noise towards Shibasa, confirmation that she heard him and nothing more. Getting up, she walked away from him. She needed to visit the shrines of her sisters. She needed to talk to them before she talked to anyone else right now.
