He'd seen her only because he'd 'borrowed' a pair of binoculars, it was a total 'cop out' that he was amazed he hadn't seem more people use to date. Just a flash of white so high up that he wished he'd thought of the perch before now.

A pair of teleports, one to pick something up, a peace offering as it were, something to try and negate a fight so he could talk to her, such a key figure in so many things and so elusive. Yet she commanded loyalty to such a degree it was like it was bred into her strange guardians, he admired and loathed that at once.

He teleported into the same 'work space' that topped the 'pillar' of the cable bridge that she was standing in, not made for pedestrians, so it was safe unless you wanted to bother with the climb to it...or teleport.

As a bonus it gave the most spectacular view of the city he had yet been witness to, the water reflected the night and its tiny points of light like a mirror, the moon was obscured by clouds and as though it were out of deference to her, the world was, for the most part...sleeping.

"Pegasus..." he said civilly, "Or should I call you Helios..." He offered her the steaming cups, let her pick the one she wanted so she would know they had not been tampered with.

She'd come to the bridge for solitude. It was not as if it were difficult to find -- now that Elysion was safe once more, she could always retreat to its empty fields, to the fading twilight and ever-changing constellations reflecting the dreams of senshi and negaverse alike. No one could enter without her permission, her and her three Guard, and even they would not disturb her if she did not want, the unspoken understanding saying more than words ever could. But more and more she found she did not want to retreat to the Sanctuary of Dreams. There was a residual guilt, like the lingering, bitter aftertaste of something wrong, unsettling her and leaving her sleepless even though the nights had quieted as the negaverse rested, both sides recuperated from weeks of life by day, war by night. And more than anything, the memory of Endymion's appearance gnawed at her, eating away bit by bit at her ability to concentrate, a somehow shameful ache that would not go away.

Dangling one thin, elegant leg over the edge of the concrete pillar, Pegasus stared off over Destiny Harbor with a distant sort of look that meant she was a million miles away, one arm draped loosely over her other bent knee. Thankfully, the wind was still that night, the barest breath of wind catching her hair every once in a while, the only whispers of sound beyond the occasional siren echoing off the skyscrapers. Below her, tiny pinpricks of headlights moved across the cable bridge that connected the two halves of the city, completely unaware of the teal-skirted figure.

As it were, she got none of what she had been searching for. It seemed there was one who had known just where to look, untricked by what should have been the impossible.

The pull of air towards the portal Zinkenite stepped through alerted her to his presence, the residual dark energy bleeding through into her consciousness. Although she recognized the work of a negaverse agent, there was a distinct surprise etched into her face as she glanced quickly over her shoulder, one palm tightening a little against the concrete, ready to jump up at a moment's notice. It was only the mild way he stood that made her hesitate, eyebrows furrowing curiously as she looked at him through skeptical blue eyes.

That, and the coffee he was offering.

"Pegasus," she replied after another hesitated second, taking one graciously as she relaxed, "Although I suppose I was Helios first, I'm Pegasus now." Another pause, and a distinct undertone of regret, "Mostly."

Glancing up at the masked figure again, she looked him up and down slowly, sizing him up with more curiosity now than alarm. She let the moment stretch on a little further, lifting her other hand to wrap around the base of the cup she had taken, letting the coffee warm her hands a little before she spoke again. "You don't look like you've come to exact revenge," she offered in a questioning tone, quirking an eyebrow, "Unless, of course, this coffee is meant as some sort of figurative dueling glove. In which case... en garde?"

The attempt at humor was dry, but there. Subtly.

"First one to the bottom of the cup, is the undisputed victor of burnt coffee beans." He replied with amusement sparking in pale blue eyes, he leaned back into the cold wall and curled his own hand around the remaining cup before reaching up to pull down that black mask that hid his face, it clung stubbornly and he rolled his neck slightly to free himself so that he might sip the steaming beverage.

"No... I'm all for revenge, but only where deserved." he replied more seriously. "I have little grievance with you... we were all interlopers, chasing the senshi through a place they never should have tread, only to commit the same offense ourselves."

He sighed, the exhalation sending curls of steam drifting into the cool night air. "I hope you will pardon the interruption, I admit I am here only to satisfy my own...curiosity about you. The first time we met was over that -tree-... and the strange monsters." He shuddered slightly recalling the irresistible 'allure' that the sparking creature had held. The utter loss of control of his own desires still gave him nightmares. Sometimes he even spent time second guessing what he 'wanted' even now.

"Has your Elysium recovered?" He asked cupping his other hand around the steaming beverage and taking a small sip. He made a small face that said more than words, that it was not his 'beverage of choice'... probably he had chosen it for popularity rather than preference.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 15, 2011 10:36 pm

"I'm surprised -- I did practically side with the senshi, after all. And they have even less a right than you," she replied, playing devil's advocate for her own case as she watched him lower his mask with a hint of interest, as if she had half expected it to be taboo for him to show her his face. Lifting the cup to her lips, she took a slow, idle sip of the beverage as she let her mind wander again, eyes drifting back over the darkened water as she thought, particularly about the amethyst general that had shaken her so profoundly. She wanted to tell Zink that she hadn't completely sided with them at all. She wanted to say she might have been wrong, as if that might alleviate her inner turmoil. Where was the clarity she had had before? Senshi were good, Negaverse were bad, no exceptions no rules no falling for their wily tricks? It had left with her innocence, the last lingering ray of sunshine crushed beneath Endymion's boot.

And when had it changed from a we to a they? At least the you wasn't an us. Yet.

If there was any relief or appreciation in Zink's understanding of her predicament, she kept it well hidden behind the cool mask she always wore to keep friend and foe alike at bay, her eyes locked onto a particularly bright reflection in the water coming from a boat nearby, white lights strung over it like an elegant christmas tree. Still, there was a distinct heaviness to her gaze, regret and sadness lingering where it never would have before -- a brief insight into how tired Eternal Sailor Pegasus truly was. She heard but did not respond to the sound of the sigh that came from the negaverse general behind her, until a great deal of time had past, both of them lingering in the almost-silence.

"Have I disappointed you yet?"

It was said in a tone that almost eluded that it might be a joke, but it seemed as if the humor had not reached from idea to voice, the influx of the question leaving it hard to tell if the question was even rhetorical or not. In the end, either by design or to relieve any awkward tension that might have resulted, she continued onward, leaving little room for him to reply even if he wanted to.

"As for Elysium, don't worry -- it is as perennial as the grass. And the blood, at least, is gone. Visibly, anyway," she replied in an even, unworried tone. Pulling in her extended leg, Pegasus slowly pushed herself up, straightening and looking over her shoulder at Zink for a few more moments, as if considering something. There was little indication in her expression of whether he passed or not, but as she turned fully to face him it could be assumed he must have, the senshi of dreams moving forward a little further to address him fully, both hands wrapped around the warm cup once again. It seemed she, too, wasn't much for coffee.

"Tell me General, what is it you want to know?"

His eyebrows lifted to hear her say such things, with the way the battle had gone he had expected little but a staunch defense of the senshi whom had formed the final battle line between their own prince and the crystal.

But perhaps, that contributed to her admitted opinion, she had after all, cast out that same prince and all his swaggering and speeches. His casting the Zodiac princess into the arms of Tanzinite alone had placed him for the time being in a rank that surpassed even his standard disgust with Senshi.

"... Disappointed? No... I am, delighted by your humanity, to say anything else would border on a lie." He replied. "As for what I want to know... an honest answer would be 'everything.' But I'm afraid that's...unrealistic, so I'll offer up a pair of alternatives as an opener, which you can and I'm sure will counter with questions of your own. "First... would you have preferred tea?"

Was it a joke? Hard to say, the smile reached only his eyes and was snuffed out again like a candle in a draft. Even without the mask, like her his face remained guarded.

"And...secondly... Forgive me but... you said your Elision waited for a new keeper?"

It was poorly phrased, as though he did not quite know how to phrase it, so many questions he had about the Prince, dreams and crystal... about guardians and the realms they guarded and yet so few answers he thought himself likely to get.

Although initially she looked surprised at his reply, the corners of Pegasus' mouth curled in a small smile as he went on, politely amused as he continued. He was certainly perceptive, that was clear. Part of her wanted to ask what he knew about humanity, but she refrained. What did she know of the negaverse's humanity? While the memories of lifeless bodies abandoned in alleyways haunted her memory as far back as she could remember being a senshi, the immense doubt made her consider if maybe, perhaps she had jumped to conclusions.

"A rather personal question, don't you think?" She replied noncommittally, her own question as rhetorical as his had seemed to have been. Whether he wanted a genuine answer or not, she didn't provide one beyond that, metaphorically shrugging it off to continue on to his more pressing question. This made her pause again, although not for reluctance to answer. "Not quite. The Eyes -- my Guard -- can always stand in my stead," She replied slowly, as if thinking it over. It was a complicated question, one which she wasn't quite sure she fully knew the answer to. Still, after a breath of hesitation she returned her gaze to him, her response more resolute. "To be honest, I know about as much as you do about what happened. As far as I know, Elysion's Keeper has never claimed the crystal except for in dire circumstances, to hide it. After the threat passed, it was always returned to the pedestal. This time... it has disappeared. I'm not sure if I'm still it's Keeper or not."

She did not add that she knew where it was -- he hadn't asked, and it was already a great leap of faith that she was telling him what she had. She wasn't disillusioned to the fact that whatever passed between them would not stay between them. To tell him that it was within arms length, that he merely had to reach his hand into her chest to take it, would be not only inviting disaster, but inviting a catastrophe. As far as she knew, the negaverse was not aware that the Great Crystals resided next to their owner's starseed. Wiseman had taken Princess Chronos' Opal crystal, but whether or not he had passed on his knowledge, she would likely never know.So why tell him anything at all? Why invite the potential danger?

Perhaps it's what she wanted. She was tired of staying under the radar.

"Quid pro quo. You've been promoted since I saw you last. Is that unusual? I've seen a few generals, but not very many."

Quid pro quo, the turn of phrase made him smile over the coffee cup even as he shrugged off the 'personal' question.

He made a soft hmm sound, contemplative over her answers. She was wise to be guarded, but if she were not at least wise part of the time, could she ever have been the guardian of her particular... 'realm' if you could call it that.

"Disappeared... curious..." He said his eyes flicking over her face as though he sought the answers she had not given in some fine writing in the curves of her face. If he found any clue there, or any further questions they were not yet forthcoming.

"I should answer you something to do with liver's and fava beans." He quipped though he was unsure if she would get the reference. She looked studious enough but it was hard to say who would and who would not enjoy such books.

"Is what unusual... Generals?" He questioned for clarification and then gave a small shrug and an cheshire smile as he glanced out over the bay.
"I'm honestly not sure... my studies are not typically turned 'inward'."

It was an answer without being an answer. "Promotions though? No... I do not think them unusual...perhaps mine was, I am not... cut from the same fabric as the other's I think." The way he said it was quiet... no vanity there , perhaps even worry.

"Will it be you to choose the next keeper of the crystal? Or... will it choose of its own accord, re-appearing when it finds... someone it can... bond to."

He said it with an odd intonation to the way he phrased that, but why it might be hard to say.

"And start calling me Clarice?" Pegasus replied with a slight lift of her eyebrows, a hint of amusement lingering in her blue-green eyes, "As long as you don't resort to cannibalism."

It was almost eerie, how easily she fell into this intellectual witty banter. Still, she felt only the slightest twinge of unrest, a little bell of warning in the back of her mind, but she waved it away easily, suppressing it. Instead, she let herself follow his gaze over the water, glancing over her shoulder to where he was looking out over the bay from atop the bridge, admiring it while he thought quietly to himself. Before Elysion's war, she would not have even glanced away from him for a second, much less turned so he was out of her peripheral vision. But it wasn't an excessive amount of confidence -- if it came down to a fight, she wasn't sure who would win between them. He was a General after all, the equivalent of her own eternal status, and her pulse still quickened a little with adrenaline, but it was residual, the result of battle upon battle where they fought for their lives, and one wrong move would result in death. The truth was, she didn't think he would. She wasn't sure, she could never be sure, but something told her he was genuinely intrigued, and his answer of feeling no grievance with her felt truthful.

"Not cut of the same material..." Pegasus repeated slowly, thoughtfully, her eyebrows etching together in curiosity. Still, it was her turn, so she let it slide, refacing him and tilting her head to one side a bit, holding her elbows loosely. "Oh, the crystal has found it's new master. It has bonded," 'unwillingly?' she added in her head, keeping that part to herself. "Make no mistake, it does not belong to Endymion anymore, but it has found someone else, or I would have placed it back on the pedestal. However, it doesn't answer to me. Obviously, considering it rejected me when I tried to take it."

There might have been a little bit of discouragement in her voice at that part -- as if she needed any more doubt in her life at the moment.

"What did you mean, you're not cut from the same fabric as the others?"

The curiosity had returned, blanketing the resentment she had felt not a few moments before, her gaze leveling out to a passive calm again. Curiously, she was quite interested in this conversation, this game they were playing back and forth. As many a senshi could have confirmed, this was quite unusual -- she might have built up a reputation as being a cold fish.

A new master? That caught his interest, and a new master enough to keep it from returning to where it had stayed before...how strange, how curious.
His eyes were bright with interest, more so than any lust for combat he hungered for knowing.

"I promise I have no taste for liver... and as pleasing as I find our dialog I'm not yet prepared to cut my hand off for you, give it time perhaps."
The corners of his eyes creased in amusement and the smile was... warm for one so clearly seldom used. It died again under what may have been a 'poker face' and may have in fact been his emotional 'ground zero'.

"I will not say I am not pleased that it does not belong to him, I found his behavior distasteful, even admitting that I do not understand the mind behind it...yet, the act of throwing someone else to the mercy of the woman out to kill you... a cowardly bullies move. Not unexpected, but it disgusts me all the same." He sighed, his eyes narrowing for a moment, the blue almost seeming a shade darker in that sullen thought, like it drank in the deep blue of the sky over the water to smother the fires of intellect for a moment.

They rekindled quickly with the hot burning 'fatwood' of curiosity turning embers back into flames and answers.
"I mean I am not the fighter that...Tanzinite is, nor Obsidian... even many of our Captains place far more emphasis on their fighting ability than I have, that is all..." he shrugged almost dismissive as though that explained everything and he might leave it there, but he did not. "If I were like the others... on either of our 'sides' in this war... if you were either, could we be talking this way do you think?"

"You never answered about the tea..." He teased lightly before asking.
"... You said it found a new owner... would you be furious if I asked who?"

Blue-green eyes darkened visibly at the mention of the prince she had once pledged herself to, her eyes drifting away from Zink, a distant, almost pained quality seeping through. It was no secret that Endymion had been Helios' prince, so it shouldn't have been surprising to anyone that she especially took his betrayal hard. She was, after all, one of the few who remembered him, not only as Mamoru, but as Prince Endymion of Earth. The way he had carried himself as he walked amongst the the gold and marble of the palace and, more rarely, Temple of Dreams, strong and commanding and full of youthful ambitions. His passion for the morals he had stood for had been an inspiration to more than just his people, motivating them with the simplest smile or clasp on the shoulder. And the truth was she had looked up to him. No... no it was more than that. Respected?

... infatuated?

Pegasus realized she had missed half of his response by the time she had shaken off the distant memories, returning to the present, to the top of the bridge upon which they stood. 'If I were like the others... if you were either, could we be talking this way, do you think?' She had no answer to his question, whether because she did not know the answer or was still distracted. Still, it was his second question that caused her eyes to flick sharply back in his direction, that veil of discretion falling for half a second.

"What makes you think I know?" she asked, a little intrigued by his inquisition. He was getting close. Very close.

He was silent for a long moment, a sort of quiet respect for the sorrow that flashed through her intense and deep eyes. He very nearly apologized aloud, but let his own respectful silence do that for him.

The fact he was able to converse here, with her, was like cupping a lotus blossom in his hands, something bright and beautiful that rose out of something dark... but oh so tentative. Filled with meaning and mythology much like the dreams she guarded.

"... You are the Priestess of Elision, if you did NOT know... then I think I would be troubled indeed." He replied honestly. "I think you do know... the little things, the look in your eyes just then, like I struck a cord but... not the one I struck with the Prince."

His voice lacked any hostility, it was a soft edged 'reading' of her face, like brushing at the pages of a book and guessing at the story from the pictures. "I think there is very little I could do about it...even knowing, short of being mindful, and I hope respectful of whomever that Crystal deemed worthy."

How politic of him, he made no promise to like the wielder, but he held out that sliver of hope that he might, his own little kernel of hope, for the negaverse and for the earth. Made no pretense that he would try and take it either.

"Quid Pro Quo Clarice?" he offered with a smile before hazarding a tiny sip at the coffee again before pulling a humorous face. "... two answers if you can explain why they called this their most popular beverage."
PostPosted: Sat Apr 16, 2011 8:18 pm

The smallest of smiles curled the corners of her lips as she listened to Zink explain his reasoning, momentarily enjoying the clarity with which he saw the situation. He was right -- as the crystal's guardian, it would have been a nightmare for her to not be privy to its location. Had that been the case, she would have certainly have been scrounging for it, instead of sitting thoughtfully on the pillar of a bridge, staring off into the dark. She would have also never eluded to the fact that she might not know, either, for fear that the negaverse might catch the scent of blood in the water, fueling another war, this time on Earth's soil and not within its core. He was perceptive, and she couldn't make herself be wary around him, perhaps finding him a kindred spirit amongst those who would indiscriminately attack, both within his faction and her own.

Or perhaps she was just tired. Tired of being careful, treading so softly no one could hear her, a ghost who disappeared before any could confirm what they had seen.

"I have it."

There was a little flutter in her chest as she murmured the words, her eyes holding the negaverse general's, searching them with mild interest. Briefly, she wondered if he had already known even before asking, merely wanting a definite answer. It didn't matter -- she wouldn't lie to him, despite how brief their encounter. She did, however, take a slow, careful step back, confident but wary in her steps, making sure heel felt concrete before she took another step. All the while, she held his gaze, not looking back over her shoulder despite the hazard. "Will you try to take it? You could -- it's just like taking a starseed," she asked with an idle curiosity, stopping at the very edge of the ledge, her heels already half-off the side. The wind tugged at her hair and skirt, whistling threateningly, but she didn't lift her arms from her sides.

Senshi or not, if she fell, she would die. Without the help of teleportation, no amount of strength or speed would save her, no resistance to cold or heat. The feathery winged bow would be useless.

"Will you?"

"Do you want me to?"

His reply was quiet, sincere, he wasn't watching her as one watches someone you hate, not as a lion watches it's prey... no, there was something predatory in his eyes, like a caged beast not yet tamed, but doomed to be broken within concrete walls.

"... will you try to take mine?"

He offered in stead. "Far easier I think... if you could undo what it has set itself into, far harder I think to woo it... even our Fair Queen could not..."

His voice was so soft, there was even, just for a moment a very human edge of fear, of awe...

He swept back the cuff of his sleeve to show it to her, deep crimson set into some curious device meant for launching smaller things... like a ornament, designed to be there. It should have looked oversized but instead it just looked like it belonged.

"Our secrets then, if mine is learned so is yours... quid pro quo... congratulations... my respect to you, guardian of Elision."

He gave her a bow, placing one hand over his heart, his eyes never once left hers but it was a deep bow indeed.
"Not a secret to take to your grave I hope."

There was just a touch of anxiety in his voice, the sight of anyone perched, willingly or not on such a ledge...such a drop. He might have sacrificed humanity to be what he was now...an instrument, misguided, with calculating eyes far more terrible than any rage he could ever muster... but he had no desire to see her fall.

He held his hand out, palm up, open and un threatening. "My word, I will not fight you tonight..."
PostPosted: Thu Aug 25, 2011 2:18 pm

'Do you want me to?'

The words honestly surprised her. She'd had such a vivid idea of what the Negaverse was -- psychopathic murderers bent on chaos and destruction for the sole purpose of spreading hate. That had always been her idea of them, a concrete truth that was the foundation of everything she had built her senshidom from. From the moment she had been awakened, she had fought in the name of the senshi, in the name of the moon, with an unwavering resolution that she was doing what was right. She had killed in the name of what she had always thought to be right. Now... now she wasn't so sure. They were invaders... the senshi didn't even belong on earth, not like the Negaverse did. And the senshi were arguably more numerous than the Negaverse, with magical abilities that left them with an advantage. The realization that perhaps they were merely trying to defend what was theirs, by any means necessary, was one which had destroyed the foundation she had always stood upon. And now, standing there on the edge of a bridge, there was fear in Zink's eyes, not that he could lose the golden crystal should she fall, but that she might fall at all. Like the thought of shoving her himself had never crossed his mind.

It wasn't just the question that surprised her. It was the part of her that wasn't sure what the answer was. The temptation to give the crystal up and end this eternal struggle to protect something she didn't even think she was worthy of protecting.

A gust of wind sent the air around them whirling hard around them, whipping her skirt around her legs and catching the winged bow at her waist, threatening to pull her backwards off the edge. For a moment, her heart fluttered in her chest as she felt herself be pulled back a little, teetering on the edge, leaning forward a little to brace herself forward. But it died down a moment later, and with it she watched Zink move the sleeve of his uniform to reveal a crystal she recognized easily, but had never seen in person. Gold-flecked blue stared for a few heartbeats at the blood-red stone, less surprised than thoughtful, before she lifted her eyes to his again. Such dangerous secrets they kept... and possibly worse, shared.

"I believe you."

Reaching up, she took his gloved hand with her own, black against white, and stepped away from the ledge, not looking back over the dark expanse of water which would have swallowed her whole.

Dangerous indeed.

"It's interesting that you possess the Crimson crystal," she spoke up finally, a polite curiosity lacing her tone, "I hadn't realized it'd shown up."

He gave a soft intake of breath, sudden and tense as the wind caught at her, tugging at her as though it might pull her free. As though it would loft her on those tiny useless wings that would, like so many promises given in this world let her fall. He almost jerked forward like a puppet his hand jutting further to try and stop what could have been called inevitable. If she wanted to fall, there was nothing that he could do after all.

His shoulders rounded again as her hand slipped into his, relief and a soft sigh of relief almost lost into the wind. “You know the crystals?” He said his head tilting and his eyes sharp with surprise, though it faded with a calculating and ponderous moment. “No, Helios perhaps?” He tilted his head curious. “Do you know what the Crimson Crystal does?” He asked, a hint of amusement playing at the corners of his mouth. No secret at all perhaps that he liked hiding behind the faces of others.

“I did make it a point to keep it secret, I should…very much like for it to remain so.” He shook his head with a twitch of a smile. “…I find it to be in my best interest…given that the Queen herself was, less than pleased with the behavior of the crystal itself.”

He gave her hand a gentle squeeze, friendly and nothing more before relaxing his hand all together to let her take her hand from his without being so crass as to simply let it fall.
“Thank you, for your faith in me, I find it’s become a rare trait, if there were more like you…” He did not finish the thought but let it rest between them.
