Setting.A long time ago on a small Island came a man, a former slave, to bring a new way of life to the people there. He was beloved, sainted, and became a legend. Today, not many people know his story but they still know his name, and they still organize revelries to celebrate him. And wherever there are inebriated humans, indulgences in the finer substances in life and the sinful pleasures of flesh, there are fairies.
Every year, a celebration is held in the Fairy world alongside the Mortal world. In the same pubs, bars, clubs and festivals, but on the other side of a magical veil. Fairies from both the Seelie and Unseelie court are guests, at their best and worst behaviours for the five-day celebrations,
I am extending this RP till I say so.
and sometimes guests of "honor" arrive as well... bewitched mortals under the spells of fairies intent on enjoying the best of both worlds.
Fairies don't care if you're Catholic or Pagan, or what your reasons for celebrating St. Patrick's day are... why would they? The names of human religions are nothing to them, just words, and most of them can't remember what theology relates to what worship.
Fairies worship themselves, their courts, and the earth. They love all the pleasures and and joys the earth, and its creatures, have to offer and so, naturally, they are drawn to this wild, alcohol inducing, inhibition reducing, holiday. They love to see the humans partaking in the wilder practices of merry-making and most of them, if not all of them, partake themselves as well.
Fairies.
These are not the fairies in coloring books or Disney movies. These fairies can be beautiful, six-foot tall amazons that walk on sunshine and sparkle with stardust as they walk... or they can be nightmares, hags with sagging, naked bodies and eyes the color of charred wood long dead of any heat. There are many kinds of fairies, and most of them you have probably heard of; sprites, nymphs, dwarves, brownies, gnomes and trolls. There are many you haven't heard of too, but for your own safety I won't divulge, for the fairies like to keep their secrets. That's why they're never seen, visible only when a strong glamor spell is put in place. Otherwise they drift alongside mortals, day by day, invisible participants in the whirlwind of life. They are drawn particularly to the strong, vivacious energy of youth and, as such, come out in great numbers on world-wide holidays.
So, to make it as simple as I can for you, let me sum up the general assumption of fairies in Ireland:
Seelie: the Seelie is a general term to classify the benign, and even helpful, (though sometimes harmlessly prank-filled) Fairies of the Summer court. They are generally beautiful, especially the Royal court, and energetic, and playful. The Seelie are passionate, and match their Unseelie cousins in pursuit of pleasure, but while the Unseelie are known to fight for their passions, the Seelie charm for them. They embody the elements of fire and earth, the pleasures of dance and music, and have refined tastes that mimic those of humans -- alcohol, dances, art and fashion. Common Seelie Fairies are hobgoblins, brownies, ferrishyn, selkies, and leprechauns.
Unseelie: the Unseelie fairies are the creatures your mother warned you about, the mischief makers that seek to harm humans rather than help or reward. They are sometimes beautiful, but more often horrifying to behold.. which makes it easier for them to do harm to humans. They are evilly inclined, which means that though they won't always perform evil deeds (just like the Seelie don't always do good), when provided with the choice between evil and good they will do evil. Their season is winter, and their elements are wind and water. Their pleasures are primal, gluttonous, violent and the most dangerous in the magical world -- even to Seelie courts. The common Unseelie fairies are bogies, bogles, boggars, abbylubbers and buttery spirits.
Rules.
Every world has it's rules, and during a season when both winter and summer fey come together it is highly important to remember them:Seelie Court Code (Good Fairies): Death before dishonor -- Honor is the most important of virtues even in this modern world, Knights and Royals still exist. And Honor is the Source of all glory for them. Keep your personal honor intact, even if that means that you travel down a road that leads to your demise.
Love conquers all -- Love is the purest expressions of what it means to be Seelie. Love in its truest form True love goes beyond all and personifies what it means to be Seelie. Courtly love best expresses love in its highest form, although love of family and friends can embody all that is this most of exalted of virtues. Anything can be done, and is permitted in the name of true love.
Beauty is life --- A timeless quality, it is a quality that can not truly be described but is, as one sees it, one knows it. It is the muse of all creativity, like a blooming blue rose of the Dreaming. Found it must be protected, for it is both eternal and fragile. It is an Honor, nae, privilege to die in the act of protecting something that represents Beauty.
Never forget a debt -- All good deeds are not with out reward, likewise all terrible acts should be punished as such. When receiving a gift, one is obligated to return the favor. An oath of friendship should be answered with a corresponding oath. To refuse aid to someone you are indebted to is a grave insult. Never refuse to aid anyone to whom you are indebted. Never forget a kindness... or a cruel act.
Unseelie Court Code (Bad fairies): Change is good -- Stagnation is the road to banality. Nothing lasts forever, and the smallest spin in the wheel of fortune can mean the difference between being being a Prince or a Pauper. Chaos brings new forms of Glamour. To refuse to change is to deny the universe. Adapt or Die
Glamour is free -- Glamour is everywhere, and if not used is worthless to all, unseelie or seelie. Hoarding it away is irresponsible and makes no sense, as it is replenishible. As long as there are mortals to muse or ravage there will always be those who dream -- therefor there will always be Glamour. Acquire by any means possible, and you will never be with out.
Honor is a lie -- The modern world does not hold any place for ancient virtues like Honor. This is merely a thin veil of paint to cover the emptiness behind a great deal of traditions. Only the truth can be attained though one's own self interest.
Passion before duty -- To deny your passions is to deny your fae self. This leads to stagnation and hence banality. Follow what you feel, trust your instincts, and act on your impulses. Live life to the fullest with out regard to what the consequences may bring. Those hang overs will still come in the morning. Life is short, live in the moment and enjoy it whiles you can. Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow you may die.Of course, rules are meant to be broken...Profiles: PM profiles to myself to be posted in this thread. There will be no profile thread or discussion thread. All general DT rules apply, as does Gaian TOS.

Midnight wings showered down feathers of the night sky, littering the darkened growth at the Pegasus' feet as the nimble hooves set place upon the ground silently as his namesake -- Shadow. Leylia slid down his sleek, velvet soft side from his back and landed just as quietly in her ancient, woven sandals. Beside her companion, she was the moon; pale and gossamer, wrapped in the colors of night, and trailed by his dark and looming form. He followed behind her as closely and loyally as a comet trail, the only sounds he made coming from the gentle rustle of his raven-black wings, and she surveyed the empty festival grounds. The night before the fairy festivities had the sacred land cleared of any signs of mortals, their filth and slime cleansed away with the elements and, when necessary, Unseelie charms, and she approved. With a smile that could chill a bonfire, Leylia tilted her head back gracefully as she came to a stop.
Tomorrow night this place would be filled with Fay, both Summer and Winter, but there was only one that she would look for. Her ancient sister from another life, both stolen and given away, and her annual rival in all things. Even in Rome the two had competed, though they had been sisters then. In all things they had butted heads; in men, in wealth, in social status and even in the gladiator arenas. Many of Leylia's gladiators had been slayn by her sister's men, and vice versa, but it never mattered how much blood was shed between them (in and out of the arena, it seemed) they still loved one another.
They still loved each other, even now as they existed in opposing courts and so many lifetimes ago, but for at least one of them it was a twisted love. Beauty formed in darkness, the loveliness and bite of a perfect winter's night, and it was only once a year that they were able to be reunited. Tomorrow would be that day.

Glittery laughter contagiously lilted across the diamond encrusted night sky. A large eagle dove and swooped through the darkened sky without preamble, his entire body looking as though he had been born from gold that had been mined from the sun itself. He was no companion to Royalty, but giving of heat and light as he did, the eagle was at the head of the procession of the Seelie Court that trailed farther behind. Only the laughter continued, with the occasional shriek of pure joy has he dove towards the ground again. One amber eye swiveled down to his cargo, who was hanging by her biceps in his talons very carefully as so not to injure her, his mistress Aislinn.
"Come on, Halcyon! Faster!!" her belle like voice seemed to make even the stars twinkle in delight.
Almost as if shaking his head the golden eagle gave a loud squawk, and dove headfirst towards the ground only to pull up at the last second. It was only a few moments later that the two landed gracefully outside the Festival Grounds. Aislinn stood cautiously as she looked around. It was so strange...almost uncomfortable to be out...alone at night like this. Especially when she knew the Unseelie court was close. But they were under truce, at least for the Festival. But didn't that technically start tomorrow? She had to leave Halcyon where he was as the beacon to follow for the rest of her court. That was her job every year. She was the first to arrive, just as her sister was for the Unseelie Court. First two in, Last two out.
She'd missed her so very much. Aislinn had become the very embodiment of summer with her long years with her court. Eyes as blue as sun shining of a lake, hair long and fiery red, her skin tanned and warm with hints of sunlight seemingly sparking off her skin. But sometimes she thought she'd give it all up for more time with her sister, she missed her. They had lived all their human life together, part of their fey life together before separating to courts, and now they got one day a year together.
Aislinn was determined to spend all Festival with her sister if she could, as much time as she possibly could. Shivering, she rubbed her hands together creating a spark before rubbing her hands up and down her arms. Cold and dark...wouldn't it be so easy to slay her now before the truce were enacted?

As the all too familiar laughter reached her ears, Leylia turned to Shadow and commanded him silently to wait for the others. He harrumphed in his horse's voice, but obeyed, the first real sound he'd made since they arrived. He didn't like her venturing out alone, but he wouldn't follow if she did not wish it and tonight, with that other voice so near, she truly did not. It was as if the centuries came back to her, every time she heard that voice, and all the ages slipped away with the lilt of that laugh.. and though it was changed now, marked by the summer sun and the magic that had given it new life, she would never mistake it for another -- Aislinn had arrived. Just like all the many years before, she never made Leylia wait.
She ventured forward cautiously, wary of the golden guardian that Aislinn always travelled with, Shadow's counterpart, and stopped only when the unmistakable glow of the summer fay's body could be seen. Faster than any human eye could see, Leylia laughed upon the sight of her sister and flittered forward. She traveled faster than the sound of her own voice, that teasing, haunting giggle that foretell danger, and stopped only two yards from Aislinn to materialize seemingly out of the night itself. Like a ghost, she drifted forward, and spoke with words caressed in smooth, inky blackness, "Has it been a year already, Aislinn?" She teased, "this past year has simply flown by already.. but what is the human expression? 'Time flies when you're having fun! "
Did she miss her? Yes, dearly, like her own heart cut out of her chest, but as a winter fay she wasn't about to show it.

Her heart seemed to jump into her throat and choke her as she watched her sister materialize close to her. Impulsive, careless, capricious...all those words could be used to describe Aislinn. Especially when she did something impetuous, like she was doing just now. With a running leap faster then the blink of an eye or the beat of a heart, Aislinn had leaped at her sister and tackled her with a hug that had them rolling head over heels with each other.
Leylia's icy skin in contrast to her sun heated skin sizzled together creating steam around them, the power of their courts creating a physical magical reaction. But she didn't care, she'd handle the pain of being able to embrace her sister. Laughing at their predicament was part of the fun, "Let's hope our time doesn't fly by as quickly then sister....we never get enough time together as it is you know.."
She laid next to her sister on the ground now, their fingers intertwined; steam and magic lifting from their fingers. That awkward silence started to fill the air around them, two different courts can take its toll.
"When does your delegation arrive?"

He was second to arrive, but not by any decree; indeed, he doubted very much anyone in the Seelie court knew he would be arriving at all. Aedan was not exactly the organized type.
Like most his kin, Aedan was jovial though he was perhaps a touch more roguish and carefree than his kind. He was the kind of Seelie fae that made the nature of the Summer folk ambiguous; he often played pranks on unsuspecting humans and though they were never ill-intended they at times a little too mischievous. Aedan pinned the fault on the humans' own blunders, but in the end guilt always led him to make reparations of some sort. Gift baskets of some delicacy left on the doorstep, flowers charmed for luck pinned to doors or slipped through windows -- Aedan's interactions with humans were never single, isolated events. He liked to learn certain humans, and he especially liked beginning with them as children.
Though he had aiming to be first -- for the fun of it -- he was not disappointed with second, counting the sisters as one entity. He materialized before them, a fey smile on his lips. "What, ho!" Aedan greeted with mock surprise. "Pray tell - am I early?"

Leylia rolled with the tackle and relished the contact, the warring sides of her mind between fay and mortal conflicting over the sentiment, and sighedy with a smile as they both touched down on the ground. The warmth of the steam was gross and sick, nauseating her, but the heat from Aislinn was something different. It had always been different, a comparison of the brightness of the heart beside the stifling fever of the sun, and she loved it. It amazed her that after all of this time she could still feel the old, mortal stirrings of a now long frozen heart.
"On the thirteenth hour." She stirred only to roll onto her side, keeping her sister's hand entwined in her own, and reached over to brush the golden bodice that her sister had worn for the festivities fondly. "They leave the dreams of mortals for the occasion, something that never ceases to surprise me." Because the Unseelie relished in causing nightmares in human minds, watching them wake with a cold sweat and a scream, but it was not what truly amazed her. She was amazed that the years never took a toll on either of them, but they always seemed so different every year.
She murmured quietly, Every year you look more like one of them, sister dear. The winter fay knew without saying that the same could be said of herself.
"Pray tell - am I early?"
Immediately the difference between the sisters was sharpened, their contact causing a calm steam to rise to a burst of angry conflict as Leylia's metaphorical hackled raise in the presence of more fay. Her chill settled in after she slipped her hand from her sister's and sat up, but did not rise. She would not rise to meet a summer fay.
"How delicious," Leylia said, smiling coldly up at Aedan. "Another Summer fay to light up the night. It warms my old bones to see one so cheerful."

Aedan's reply was impish, himself completely unfazed by the Unseelie's cold taunt. They were all like that -- jaded and sharp-tongued, so unlike the innocent children he held so dear to his heart.
"Oh ho," the fae grinned. "I suppose that's a yes, since you'd probably pick on some other Summer-folk if I were late. Good -- I hardly ever make it on time, and never early. How long do we have to enjoy each other's stimulating company before the rest of our brethren arrive?"
He looked about the empty Festival Grounds, sensing the Seelie court was not far off but knowing they would be a little longer yet. He would have been disappointed if they weren't -- Aedan had done his very best to remember the Festival this year, and on top of that he'd had to remind himself frequently to arrive early. Just for fun.

Leylia smirked, wrapping a piece of sky-blue hair between two fingers and twirled it as she appraised the other fairy. He was beautiful, just like the other summer fay, and she hated him for it on principal. So many of the Unseelie were disgusting to look upon even for her, and sometimes she envied the summer court to loathing.
"It doesn't have to be that long, not if you didn't want it to last." Innocently, she batted her lashes at the comment that was anything but innocent. Though she should, she couldn't bring herself to be friendly to the other court -- with exception to her sister, of course. Though it was a truce, it wasn't in her nature as a winter fay.. and even as a mortal it was not a part of her to be kind. That was why the Unseelie had welcomed her so long ago, while the Seelie welcomed her sister into their alluring embrace... another reason to hate them.

She felt the distinct loss as her sister broke their connection, and part of her was angry at the other fey for intruding. After all no one else was supposed to be here, but then again there was no real rule for it either. Aislinn's first instinct was to appraise the new fairy. She knew of Aedan but had never actually met him, he spent most of his time in the human world, brave or stupid depending on who you spoke to. The Queen of Seelie had been pushing her to find a mate, but Aedan was not her type or at least not what she had looked for thus far. She had hesitated taking a mate because it would take her away from her Fesitval duties each year; and she wasn't willing to do that. Besides that broke the treaty, the courts made when it came to who got the sisters; and in the end it was who could make the sisters happy. One had to thrive in the courts or it weakened the courts.
A smile broke on to her face allowing bits of sunlight to sparkle across her skin, "It's good to have you hear to join us for Festival, Aedan. The Seelie Court will be here soon, they want to be here and inside the protections while they have the chance." She kept her word vague simply to avoid accusations, Aislinn had to real problems with the Winter fey, other then the fact that they had tried to kill her from time to time; though she was sure her own court has tried the same on her sister. But she still wouldn't bandy words about other fey, she did generally try to stay optimistic about all.
Stepping to her sister, she ran her won finger through her locks admiringly, lovingly, letting her know how beautiful she though she was, before linking their arms, "Why don't we meet the Seelie Delegation? Get them settled? And then its off to the Unseelie?"
Her smile sparkled in her eyes towards her companions, trying to keep the peace, and keep the connections with her sister.

"Don't you want my company?" Aedan asked with a mock-pout, the question directed at both sisters.
Leylia was Winter fae -- her aversion to Aedan was perfectly normal and completely understandable, and while the truce was in order Aedan fully intended on taking advantage of it by cozying up to as many Unseelie folk as he could. And Aislinn -- she just seemed like some human twin sisters Aedan had seen. Dependent, sort of.
"That's the fun of the Festival, right? And it's been a few years since I've come."
By a few years he meant decades, but time passed differently for Fae.

Leylia found it hard to be snide in the company of her sister, even more so when her sister was doting on her, and so, after a rare and soft smile at her sister's touch, the winter fae consented to her sister's request and Aedan's company with the same nod. "I suppose, in the name of tradition, some things could be tolerated.. some easier than others."
She squeezed her sister's hand then, somewhat cruelly, and smiled devilishly. "And then we find some real fun." Plenty of mortals to play with in the vicinities of the truce, and Leylia never found a shortage of ways to entertain herself with drunk humans. Her eyes hardened as she looked back to Aedan, "Are you coming?" With a turn of her nose and a haughty sniff, Leylia didn't wait for the answer before waltzing with her sister and dancing around Aedan for two circles, then reached out and snatched his hand to drag him along as well. Unlike her sister, who was her opposite and equal in everything, Aedan's touch upon her skin sizzled and hissed, causing herself pain as she did so.. but she enjoyed it nonetheless, laughing ruefully.

It felt like things were getting so out of control, and almost frighteningly so. She had meant for everyone to go meet the Seelie, her sister and herself had to but there was no reason Aedan couldn't go as well and she had meant to make reparations but it just swirled out of control as things do with the fey and quite literally with the waltzing. But then Leylia grabbed Aedan, and her entire body seemed to freeze as Aislinn gasped and was dragged along. Not only would her sister's hand burn from the contact but now Aedan's would freeze to a degree. Oh this was going so bad.
Without notice, a black boot shot out in front of her causing her own shiny copper encased feet to trip, and down she fell to the forest floor; her hands and knees now dirty along with parts of her Festival outfit. She angrily looked up ready to tear into the idiotic fae.
"You stupi-" her voice suddenly lost its ire, and her eyes widened with fear as she looked up at the tallest, darkest (rather evil looking) and handsome in a way Unseelie fae she'd ever seen.
"Leylia?"

Leylia's midnight laughter stopped abruptly as she felt her sister's hand fall from her own, and she in turn dropped Aedan's. It was shaking from the contact with the summer fae, tremors of pain that reached up her arm and into her shoulder, but she endured it as the anger rising within her swallowed it and fed off of it. Black as night wings sprouted from her back as she whirled on the offender, and she hissed, "Caprice! What did you do that for?!"
Though her stomach fluttered at the sight of him, Leylia couldn't very well let the other winter fae know that she was pleased to see him. She lowered her still good hand to her sister to help her up, while holding the other close to her stomach. "This is Caprice, sister. An... acquaintance from the Unseelie court. Persistently early, as long as it serves to be an annoyance," she stuck her tongue out briefly at Caprice, "since annoying is what he's good at."

Aedan wasn't given a chance to answer. Leylia snatched his hand and dragged him forward, either assuming his answer was yes or not caring what it was. The Seelie suspected it was the latter.
He didn't wince, but the skin-on-skin contact -- unprepared for and unwarranted -- froze his skin and a faint tingling ran up his arm. Not exactly a pleasant feeling; nature itself was the divide between Seelie and Unseelie, and the divide was not one easily breached, if ever.
When Caprice tripped Aislinn, Leylia released Aedan's hand. "Early just to annoy? It seems we are two of a kind," he commented towards Caprice, smiling congenially as he extended a hand towards Aislinn to help her up. "Let me help you, madam -- up you get!"
