Von had kicked off her shoes and tucked her feet under her on the couch and had her guitar across her lap. Her eyes closed as her finger moved over the strings. She was playing random bits and pieces of songs as they floated through her brain and even sang to them once in awhile. Normally at this time she'd be in the great hall eating but she was taking a break from all the people. It was nice and quiet in the common room today and she planned on enjoying it as much as possible.

Kennedy mumbled under his breath as he hunched over a potions book. Weren't all slytherins supposed to be good at potions? He grumbled smooshing his eyes shut. "Ok...so if you add a bat wing it turns the potion... blue?" He peeked and sighed... "No... it turns it purple..." Kenny looked up at the ceiling and leaned back in his chair so it was rocking on its back legs.
Wiggling a pencil he glanced around and spotted Von. "Hey...Von... Can you help me with this... Im gonna fail the test if i don't get this down soon..." He gave a charming smile.

Von looked up from her guitar and turned to see who'd spoken to her when she got flashed the smile. She smiled slightly in return but stayed where she was." Depends, what subject and what's giving you issues?" She felt a little odd and embarrassed since she hadn't noticed him there while she'd been playing. And she noticed everyone since she didn't like playing for others, so this was unsettling and something she'd have to think about later.

Kennedy had turned back to his work. His hair was coming out of its ponytail and hanging about in a sexy, working man, i don't give a damn way. He glanced over a few pictures in his potions textbook.
Darting his eyes up once more he smiled. "Potions... I know... How can i be slytherin and not know how to get A's in potions."
He tucked a few hairs behind his ear and then glanced down at the page once more. "When adding frog legs... to a half brewed ....something or other... turns the potion orange... " He rolled his eyes and snapped his book shut. "It should... turn it green... ya know...frogs are green...." He grinned and pushed up from his table and moved over to the common area. He plopped into a chair. "What was that you were playing? It sounded awesome."

Von's breath caught as she looked at him but managed to gather herself before he looked up again. She snickered as he vented about the potion he was studying and she turned with him as he came around and sat. " Well if you look at the other ingredients they counter the frog's greenness." Her smile was large and genuine as if the two shared a secret. "As for the song, it wasn't just one in particular. I kind of let my brain wander. I'm not even sure which songs I played." She laughed a bit embarrassed, after all she was the music geek why couldn't she remember a few songs.

He smirked in response to her answer. "I guess that could be it... but shouldn't the smoke it lets off be green? " He crossed his eyes jokingly and leaned his head back. "I know the feeling.... When im home i tend to do the same thing. "
He liked to play piano... it really wasn't a secret. He gave half a smirk. "Hold on i will be right back. " And with that he was out of his chair and heading to the boy's dorm.
He walked to his bed and dug trough his nightstand and pulled out what seemed to be a replica of a keyboard. His parents had taught him the shrinking spell since it was the only way they could pack all his stuff. He carried it back down to the common room. "Wanna hear what ive been working on?" He waved his wand and the keyboard grew to normal size. "Just promise not to laugh..."

Von snickered again she too wasn't great at potions since her forte was transformation. She raised her left eyebrow in curiosity as he stood and left. She felt odd and nervous but couldn't place why, she'd talked to boys before and had never felt this way. She looked up a bit startled as he returned but the unease went away when he pulled out his keyboard. " I'm always up for some music, and I'll try not to laugh too loudly." She managed to wink at him and keep a playful attitude. This wasn't like her at all.

He smiled.... "Ok...It starts with piano" He started his fingers danced over the key's. His eyes grew distant as he played from memory. As the music went on the pace grew faster. "And then we change the tone." In one fluid movement he hit the voice button and the music turned to electric guitar.
His fingers moved now making out chords instead of notes. "So what do you think." He had the volume down so he could talk too. He played the last few chords.
Smiling he sat back. "So? How about you play something now." He smiled once more. "Or maybe we should save that...and you can help me study?" He laughed. HE had just taken a ten minute break... he needed all his time to study... that is... if he wanted to pass.

Von smiled as she watched him slide into the music and soon couldn't stop herself from doing the same. When his keyboard moved to the electric guitar she grimaced just a little. The song seemed too simple to add that harsh sound. " I think it's good but what about this." And for a brief bit she played a bit of it back to him using her acoustic version. " I think the more natural sound resounds better with the keyboard. But the tune was amazing."
She pressed a button on the side of her guitar that had it shrinking, since she didn't know the shrinking spell she was glad Marc had gotten the one with it built in. Stuffing it gently into her pockets she stood and headed towards his books " Let's get this out of the way so we can go back to more important matters like the music."

He listened closing his eyes to listen better. "Yeah...I do like that better. " He opened his eyes. She was moving toward his books. "Its ok... I will stay up an hour extra... Come back... Play something for me.... It will relax me enough then i can get back to studying."
He gave a calm and cool smile. "Worst thing that happens is that i fail the test... and then i will drag you back to have you help me... "
"Here...lets see... something ..like...this?" He switched the guitar tone from electric to acoustic. "I'm not gonna lie.... I like the piano best... so this guitar thing isn't really my idea... it was Serge's...or i think it was..."

Von snickered but returned to her chair pulling the guitar back out. " You're as bad as me. And nah you choose not to work not me so not my fault." Her voice was still playful and her fingers gently strummed over the guitar as she talked. Soon a tune seemed to emerge into the air, and drifted lazily over the two of them. The tune was soft and reminiscent of centuries past, when Mozart and Beethoven ruled the music scene. It was one of the first pieces she'd been taught, it wasn't very popular and she was told one of her ancestors had written it just for his family. It was also the song she liked to play when trying to wrap her brain around something truly puzzling, and she thought maybe it'd help him as well.
As she played she didn't close her eyes this time but stared at a spot on the floor wrapped in the flow of the song she also started to sway just a bit in time.

Kenny watched her carefully. "Are there words?" He smiled. The song was lovely. He stood and raced to his books. "Don't stop playing." He pulled a quill and ink and then reached for his notebook.
He wrote a few different lyrics down and then decided on one.
Who knows why we are here To hold a wand and face our fears We wander about as strength unmatched. To be the power and greatness With magic hearts now unlatched.
"Play that last verse again..." He waited and then added in the lyrics carefully. He had a nice baritone voice and while he didn't sing loudly his voice was full and careful.

Von shook her head when he asked about lyrics but did as he said and played the last verse again. As his voice joined her song a slight shiver spread across her. He was good, voice and lyrics. "That's good. Can I see those?" She had a feeling that with their two voices added to the guitar and maybe the keyboard they'd make the song awesome. And if she was right she was going to record them later on if not for her band idea then for her family.

"Sure!" He handed off the notebook. Turning back to his keyboard he played some piano chords. "Here, go ahead and play it again. I will add in an under tone."
He played over his chords and then looked up smiling. "So" He smirked. "What do you think now... Wanna help me with my potions after i fail?" he grinned. Who knew what would happen. However, he decided he liked hanging out with this girl.

Von took the lyrics and set them down in front of her and she nodded as she replayed the last verse yet again this time her melodious voice layered on top of the guitar and with Kenny's accompaniment the song seemed almost perfect. As the last notes faded into the room she smiled at Kenny. " You got yourself a deal. I'll pull some strings and we'll make sure neither of us fail any classes and you keep writing lyrics for us and we've got ourselves the beginnings of a decent band." She dare not say great but she'd be doing that which she loved most. " So wanna hear the song I wrote or shall we go finish your work?"
