Cat was, to be honest, not looking forward to this. He felt guilty, but at the same time, totally justified in his attempts to avoid teaching Gabriel anything one-on-one. It was, he reasoned, for the benefit of all: Gabriel couldn't stand him and he couldn't stand Gabriel. Who in their right minds would force them to have a teacher-student relationship, or really any relationship beyond the mutual irritation they held for each other now? But then he had received that note from Fifth, and although he tried to remain aloof and ignore it, he just wasn't that kind of person. So he had responded - wearily - and awaited today, all the while wishing that it would just be passed over and he could wake up tomorrow scott-free.
Of course, that couldn't happen, and he wasn't surprised when it didn't. Instead he sat with a moody pout on his face, leafing lazily through the emotional stories he had compiled with the internet, wondering if any of these would speak to the selfish little preteen. This could easily prove his worth as a teacher; certainly he would feel very accomplished if he managed to actually pound some empathy into the Pride brat. A wry chuckle sounded throughout the stagnant air of the classroom; Gabriel learning empathy. He'd be teaching Greed kids the virtues of charity next.

By contrast to his excitement for his first melee class, Gabriel was sure to drag his feet all the way down the hall as he made his way to Cat's classroom. He'd been there many times, of course. After all, his brother was always there, Cat watched them often enough; it was simply unavoidable in the long run. Unfortunately, it turned out that Cat was the only spirituality teacher willing to take on his classes. Lucky, lucky him, huh? And with his luck -just like his first skills class- he would get to learn to do something stupid and boring and terrible and, again, Damien would learn how to do something cool and great.
Magic was stupid.
"'M here, Cat," he mumbled as he pushed through the doors, tail as close as it could get to dragging on the floor. His headwings twitched slightly and he glanced about the room sleepily. He really didn't want to be here...

Considering that neither Fifth nor Damien was here to silently pressure him, Cat made little pretense of his dislike of this situation as Gabriel came in. He looked up from his papers with a dull gaze, and then heaved a world-weary sigh before standing up and walking around his desk. A wry smirk was painted on his face as he appraised the young spawn. "Well, you look just about as excited as I do about this, my young friend." His tail flicked back and forth with irritation as he crossed his arms. "But, as much as we'd both rather be somewhere else, we both know your dad would be very upset if he found out. So, let's just both stick this out as best we can, shall we?
"Now, I'm not sure if you know how this all works, but I'm your spirituality, basically magic, teacher." Cat sat cross-legged in front of his desk, gesturing for the preteen to do the same. As he continued to speak, he plugged in an old-style tape player and began leafing through a set of books on tape. "Like your angel donor, you have the gift of empathy. That means that you can learn how to completely and totally understand another's emotions, which can, for example, help you to help them." Cat couldn't resist a pointed look at the egotistical brat. "If you choose to, of course.
Now, here's what you're going to do. Sit in a comfortable position, close your eyes, and focus on what you're going to hear. These are pretty sad stories, but I want you to reach out with you heart and try to align their mind to what you hear." He glanced up at the boy, a blank look on his face. Compared to his other students, he certainly was much more businesslike.

Like Cat, Gabriel wasn't trying at all to hide how little he wanted to be in this room at the moment, slinking further in and taking the seat that had been gestured to him, wondering idly if Cat couldn't afford chairs or just chose not to provide them. His green tail slid across the floor, making soft scratching noises before it wrapped around his legs, tapping idly at the ground. Rather than sitting with his legs crossed, Gabriel sat with his knees pulled to his chin, talons tapping idly on the tile floor.
It was Gabriel's assumption that everything that came from Cat's mouth for the day was going to be boring, obnoxious drivel, but he was pleasantly surprised by things that he started to hear. As the explanation proceeded, his headwings and ears both slowly perked up from their lax, slouched position, a smile tweaking the edges of his lips.
"So, so, so that's, like, something that only me and other patience kids can do?!" the boy asked, sounding surprised before he laughed aloud, a broad grin on his face. "See, 'cause I thought that everybody could do that. Knowing that I'm one in, like, ten who can feel what other people feel? That's aweso--" It was this late in his rantings that Gabriel realized he'd been given a task, eyes dropping down to the floor as he silenced himself.
"S-sorry, got carried away. You can play the tape now."
