 Wingu had once again wandered off from his home, it was a bad habit he just couldn't see to kick. It wasn't his fault entirely, he just ended up following whatever cloud he caught site of and the next thing you know he would be no where near his home. Mama and Papa would likely come looking for him soon enough, they always did. But for now he was free and alone. It was really a shame his brother lived so far away, he wanted to visit them but remembering what happened last time he tried to go there Wingu decided to not try that again. Not without Mama or Papa to guide him.
The heat of the day brought his wandering to a stop. He found a watering hole to slack his thirst and then found a somewhat shady spot to lay down. Rolling onto his back Wingu watched the clouds and birds as they passed overhead. Tail flicked back and forth against the long grasses as he enjoyed his lazy moment.

 Vijana Maua looked around. Her mouth was open slightly and she panted a little. It was very hot, especially for a cub with no shade. It had been awhile since she'd left what remained from her mother behind and she'd stopped crying awhile ago. Mother had said this might happen, so Vij was going to be a strong girl and make the best of it. She was a scrawny little thing, her pelt thinner than what it should have been from malnourishment. But that didn't do anything to dim the glow in her eyes, for she was a bright and lively young thing. Her red pelt however made her stick out like a sore toe in this landscape and she could be seen from far off.
She was thirsty too, which didn't help. She wandered forward, looking with interest when she saw some water up ahead. She licked her muzzle with a dry tongue and bounded up to it without thinking. She crouched on the other end of the watering hole from the strange male and dunked her head in it. She started to slurp on the water thirstily before she pulled her head out and shook herself. Mission one accomplished! She wasn't thirsty anymore. She looked suspiciously at the lion on the other side of the water and started to creep along the bank towards him. Maybe she could eat him or something. She forgot all about how her mother said it wasn't good to go near strange lions.

Why did it have to be so hot today? Wingu disliked the heat, it made everything so miserable. But being the mostly upbeat lion that he was he did not let the heat stop him from doing things. Of course he could do nothing about the rumble in his stomach. Perhaps he should head home and see if Papa had brought back anything to eat. Rolling over onto his paws Wingu have his mane a shake sending a few blades of grass flying into the air. He was about to get up when he saw something brightly colored coming his way.
Wingu paused and stared at it. He was fascinated by how colorful it was and once it go closer he realized it was a cub. Oh he liked cubs! Which is why he loved going to visit his brother so much so he could play with his niece and nephew. His eyes danced as he watched the little girl approach and he smiled widely. "Hi there!" Wingu called out in a friendly manner. Maybe she would play with him, he liked playing.

Vij wasn't expecting the lion to get up so soon. She was hoping she could get some nibbles in before he ran or something. Her tail flicked from side to side as she watched him a little curiously. He didn't seem dangerous and instead seemed nice. Her ears twitched forward at the sound of his stomach growling, which made hers rumble in response. She squirmed a little and continued to stare for a moment since she didn't really know what to do. She wasn't usually indecisive by nature, so she figured she'd show this male who was boss. She straightened and rolled her shoulders back before she stomped over to him and stood right in front of him. She stood on her toes so she'd seem a little taller. "Hi." She says, then flounders for a moment before suddenly blurting out. "You got any food?"

She was funny, he wasn't sure how exactly, but Wingu was amused by her actions. When she asked about food Wingu sighed and shook his head. "No I don't, but I wish I did I'm kinda hungry." He glanced out across the open savanah almost hoping that some prey animal would wander up to where they were and drop dead so they could eat. But when no such thing happened he gave his head a shake, then a moment later seemed to perk up. "We could maybe get some food together. Though I'm not much of a hunter." He had tried to learn how to hunt, many times actually, but he was so easily distracted that it never worked well.
"My names Wingu." He introduced himself after a moment, realizing that he had forgotten his manners. Boy Mama would be disappointed with him if she knew he had been so forgetful about things like that.

She looked a little disappointed. No food wasn't very good, she hadn't eaten in a few days as it was. She licked her lips again and began to eye him a little hungrily. She didn't seem daunted by his bigger size in the least. She blinked a little when he said his name, then puffed her chest out at him. "My name is Vijana Maua." She says quickly and in a proud sounding voice. "And I want some food." She repeats her tone slightly commanding. She looked up at him with golden eyes and stared at him as if to challenge the order.

Wingu beamed a big smile. "I like your name." Rising to his paws Wingu decided that perhaps they should do something about getting food. "I want food too. Let's see what we can find." Motioning with his head for her to follow him. Padding out into the sun again Wingu wasn't entirely sure where or how they would find any food. It was almost too hot to hunt. He considered just bringing her back to the family den, for surely their would be some food there, but he wasn't sure what mama would say if he brought her home with him. She would probably tell him to bring her back to her family, but she had come to him all alone so Wingu had no idea how he would do that.
They walked for a while, Wingu looking for something for them to eat. There was a herd of wildebeast off in the distance but he knew there was no way he could catch one of those, not without help and he doubted Vijana could help. His eyes moved to the sky above, a dangerous thing for him to do since clouds so easily distracted him, but this time instead of clouds he spotted several large birds circling in the distance. "Hey look there!" Those birds were a good thing to see. "That means there's food over there!" And Wingu hurried forwards, eager to see just what would be waiting for them up head where the birds were circling...hopefully whoever killed the meal had already moved on.

Vij can't help but grin at the compliment. Of course he liked her name, her name was pretty. She purrs a little and looks up where he was looking, half expecting some meat to fall from the sky. Instead she was distracted by the fluffy tip of his tail. She wriggled her own rump a little and playfully swatted at his tail before he came to a sudden stop, making her run into the back of his legs. She grunts a little and quickly stands up, her tail whapping from side to side. "Food?" She questions, sounding a little hopeful. She bounds forward as he takes off again, having to practically run to keep up with him.

"Yeah food!" He called back to her as he hurried along, though he made sure to keep his pace slow enough for her to keep up. As they came closer his eyes fell upon the carcass of a zebra. Oh he loved zebra! But just because there was a carcass doesn't mean that there wasn't the predator still lurking about ready to defend their kill. Wingu slowed down as they came close to their possible meal, while generally not very observant he knew the one time to be extra cautious was when dealing with someones kill.
"I don't see anyone around." Which mean it was there's for the taking. "Oh boy I love free food, don't you?" And with that Wingu closed the gap between himself and the zebra, laying down and began pulling off strips of meat. His eyes ticked to Vijana for a moment. "Eat up, who knows when someone else will come by and take it from us."

Vij trotted forward, trying to be a little ahead of him anyway. Her tail twitched as she looked around too. She didn't have as much caution as he did, but she thought it wouldn't be good to get eaten while they were trying to eat. She paused for a moment as he started to eat, then bounded forward and started to tug hungrily at the carcass. She tore off a huge chunk and started to gnaw on it as if she'd never eaten before. He didn't need to tell her twice to eat.

Wingu watched from the corner of his eye as Vijana tore into the carcass. Boy he thought he had been hungry. Swallowing a mouthful of meat he sat up. "You shouldn't eat so fast. Mama says that if you eat fast it hurts your tummy." And it was true! There were a few times that he could remember where he had eaten too fast and suffered the consequences of it later. Licking the blood from his lips Wingu let out a content sigh. He hadn't been all that hungry but he would continue to pick away at the meat, even if it would spoil his appetite for later.
"Where's your mama?" He asked curiously as he pulled another mouthful of meat from the zebra. It was weird to find a cub with no parents around. Was she lost?

Vij grumbles a little at him, too focused on the food to say much. She was quickly beginning to fill up though since she was so little. She was also messy and covered in gore from her lack of manners. But that didn't stop her from tearing off another chunk and gulping it down with an excited little growl. It was true, she'd probably regret eating so fast later, but she just couldn't help it. She licked her chops and looked up at him when he questioned her. Her face darkened for a moment. "She's dead." She says matter-of-factly and goes back to eating. Her heart constricted at the thought, but she'd already made up her mind not to cry about the fact anymore.

"Oh." That was all he could say at first. He'd never encountered a lion before who had lost their family so it was a hard to understand concept. He knew about death of course, you couldn't eat without something dying, but having a loved one die that was something totally different. Something deep within him told Wingu he needed to do something, but what. Well he had befriended her, helped her get a meal but what else could he do. Face scrunched up as he mulled over his options. Well he couldn't exactly leave his new friend out here all alone, but he also couldn't stay out here, mama and papa would be worried and likely looking for him as is.
"You could live with me!" He finally offered after much thought. "Mama and Papa take care of me, and they love cubs. I have a den all to myself, but you could sleep there if you want. And Papa brings home lots of food every day so you wouldn't go hungry." It would be perfect, and he would get to spend lots of time with his new friend, gain a new playmate and help out. Mama would be so proud.

Vij blinks a little as she finally slowed down in her eating. She was full now and drowsy because of it. She hiccuped and licked her lips more before her head drooped a little. What other options did she have besides taking his? "Okay. That sounds good." She says sleepily. She scoots a little closer to him and leans against him. Now that she was full and safe, she had to struggle to stay awake, which was pretty hard considering what she'd went through.

Hooray she agreed! Oh he couldn't wait to show her to Mama and Papa, they would love her for sure. But she looked so tried and it was a good walk to get home. Wingu was now faced with a dilemma, he knew he needed to get back home before Mama became upset but Vij was practically falling asleep, but they couldn't stay here. Who knows how long it would be before some other predator came around looking to score a free meal. He gave her a small nudge with his muzzle. "You can't sleep here, it's not safe." But she couldn't possibly walk either. Aha! He had an idea. "I'll carry you, I know the way." He said and rose to his paws giving his muscles a bit of a stretch before bending his head down and carefully grabbing her by the scruff of the neck. He made sure that his grip was secure before padding away from the carcass, aiming towards home.
