Nanu had just been dropped at the nannies and was already running around with several groups of cubs. It seemed the little girl’s energy knew no bounds. She hopped between groups, cubs she knew and cubs she didn’t, cubs her age and older cubs and, occasionally, she would even go run to some of the nannies and rub herself against their legs, exchanging a few quick words before she was off again, romping around just about anyone that crossed her path.
She smiled brightly as she chased an older girl in a particularly difficult game of tag – she was fast! – but the fact that she could barely keep up didn’t seem to bother her in the least. She was aware of the limitations but Nanu wasn’t going to be small forever, right? She giggled and stopped to pant for a few moments before starting off again.

 Shenu strode into the nursery as though he was the pharoh himself. He looked at the other cubs and juveniles from down his muzzle and nose. Clearly, he thought, I am better than them. Commoners.
Dignified he paced further in. There was a fair number of cubs racing around in what seemed a game. Shenu felt that he was above such games. If everyone wasn't being so loud he might have tried hunting. The cub licked his whiskers at the thought of catching a rat. It didn't occur to him that he wasn't all that good yet.
As such, he paid no mind to the ones running around. Instead he walked forward and expected everyone to watch out for him. As it shoudl be right? His mom was a princess so you didn't want to anger him. It was for that reason, Shenu never saw the female cub running right at him.

Nanu wasn’t really catching up to the older girl but that didn’t stop her from trying which was why she wasn’t particularly happy when a boy she didn’t know walked right in between the two running cubs. Who did that anyway?!
“Watch out!” she shouted the warning at once, realizing it was too late to brake. Instead, forced to react quickly, she managed to dodge the brown cub just barely, coming to a stop after sliding in a semi-circle around him, a cloud of dust rising immediately around the two cubs. She sneezed and then giggled before speaking in a good-natured tone. “I almost hit you!”

Shenu jumped when a multicolored cub yelled nearby him. Unfortunately, it wasn't out of the way and he just stood there staring at her. He frowned at her as the dust kicked up and she giggled.
"Of course you did! Running around all crazy like that; its a miracle you haven't run into anyone before now." He said hautily with great afront. Really he thought he looked quite dashing. She should be ashamed of herself. Shenu felt a twing of something in his mind, but brushed it off.

Nanu chuckled, utterly unimpressed by the other cub’s reaction. She’d never met anyone like him before and had a hard time classifying him in her mind. What was the word… smug? No. Conceited? Maybe, but that wasn’t the one she was looking for. Oh yeah, she remembered! Stuck up! A stuck up boy.
“Cubs are supposed to play, silly!” she laughed completely guilt-free, looking around to see what the older girl was doing and spot her talking with a small group of cubs. It suddenly occurred to her that she might’ve given the brown cub a bit of a fright by nearly colliding with him. “But I’m sorry if I startled you.”

Shenu flicked his ears. What a crazy cub. It was like she didn't care if she looked silly or not. Does she not have pride?
"I'll not play at the expense of looking silly. Maybe its just because you're mom isn't a princess." Oh he was so proud of that fact! Shenu bet she was just a common born cub. Clearly that would explain her attitude. "Perhaps you should become a jester." He blinked his eyes slow and smug.
"You didn't startle me." Really as if he could be startled. The cub moved to walk away. Pointedly he moved around a fairly large mud puddle that had gathered in a dip. It wouldn't do for him to fall in and soil his fur.

“If your mom is a princess, what does that make you?” Nanu said half-curious, half-teasingly. She found the boy’s attitude amusing but she didn’t like the hint that his mother was better than hers. That was just absurd. “My mom is beautiful and my dad is really strong.”
She spoke proudly raising her head even higher that the brown cub’s, to the point that she was almost looking up at the ceiling, a fact that also amused her.
“You know… if you look down on someone so much… you’ll look up?” she dropped her chin with a giggle, taking his turn as her cue to return to the game. She immediately took off, running after the older cub she’d been playing with before, saying her farewell quite loudly. “And you might miss something important. Bye bye, Grumpy!”
(Awesome! Btw, any ideas for the title? xD)

The boy cub looked afronted. He sputtered a moment. "What.... what does that make me? You have to ask that?" His chest puffed out with pride. "That makes me a prince of course."
Shenu thought she was a very weird cub. All this looking down and looking up made no sense to him as he walked away. Thankfully she didn't seem inclined to follow him.
He felt that same twing again, then suddenly he was looking down. Shenu saw himself walking past the puddle. His eyes were drawn back to the girl cub. She was running around again. Crazy thing, he thought. Then he saw it. She ran near the mud puddle. A slippery stone sent her feet out from under her. Shenu opened his mouth to cry warning, but nothing came out. He could only watch as the she-cub went head long into the puddle. Sending up a fairly large spray of water and mud. Surely she'd be embarrassed after that!
As quickly as it started, the vision ended. Shenu found himself back in his body just passing the puddle. He whipped around to look at the puddle, expecting to see the cub he'd been talking with sitting there. It was calm and untouched. He looked for her, baffled. He had seen her fall in!
There she was, completely un-muddy and dry. His mind tried to wrap around it; inside he struggled. Should he tell her what he had seen? Would she believe him?

Nanu didn’t really think the boy’s answer made much sense. If all the princes and princesses’ children were also princes and princess, that would make for a lot of princes and princesses. And if all those princes and princesses had more children… well, pretty soon the pride would be overrun with princes and pr-… well, Nanu was already tired of thinking about it. There was a whole world of fun things to do and they didn’t include Grumpy, apparently, if his attitude was to be trusted. But she couldn’t help but to notice how the boy was staring at her. It didn’t make her uncomfortable but it did make Nanu wonder if he was simply too shy to ask the other cubs to play. Well, if he kept looking at her like that, she’d have to ask him to join her…
Nanu raced towards the older cub she’d been playing with before, head held high in anticipation of all the fun they’d have together, completing ignoring the little mud puddle. She whelped when her paw caught the stone and slid from under her body, taking away most of her support. She fell, face, chest and belly immediately soaking in the mud while a few heads turned to see what was going on.
“Hmm… ou-ouch…” she moaned for a few seconds before standing up shakily. No harm done really just a little fright, she quickly assessed. And a whole lot of mud. Already she could see one of the nannies standing up and walking in her direction and she started laughing pretty loudly, thinking of the poor lioness that would have to clean her up. But before the bath, she had the urge to look back at the brown cub to see if was still staring at her. And look at that, he was! She giggled.

He couldn't believe! Right before his eyes, his vision had played out again. Shenu blinked hard; expecting to find the she-cub dry again. Opening his eyes he couldn't believe it. Sure enough she was standing in the puddled covered in water and mud. He heard her laughing. Laughing! His jaw dropped and his eyes bugged out. How the heck could be laughing now?
An explosion seemed to happen in his mind. He had witnessed her fall before it happened. The future. Slowly, he strutted over to Nanu. Maybe he could use this to his advantage.
"I saw you fall." He said smugly. He was dry; she was wet and muddy. Shenu rather wondered what would have happened if he had warned her it would happen.

“I know. I saw you staring.” Nanu replied with a cheeky grin. “If you want to play, you should just say so.” He almost starting shaking on the spot but reconsidered. Taking three playful hops backwards, she shook the muddy water from her coat – her black splotches looked decent enough but where her coat had once been white, it was now a brownish shade of yellow.
Yes, she needed a bath. The question was whether it was worth taking it right away or after she was done playing. From one of those nannies or from her mother. Mmm. Decisions, decisions…

Shenu huffed and stamped a foot. "Noooooooo!" He drawled. "I saw you fall before you really fell." He gave her a bit of a smug look. "You look completely ridiculous covered in mud like that. You must be completely embarrassed to fall." Shenu knew he'd be mortified if he'd fallen like that. Shouldn't she be trying to get away from here before more lions saw her? Not to mention getting the mud off.
The cub twitched his tail. "Who said I wanted to play? Even if I wanted too..." His gold eyes ran over her. "My coat would become soiled if I went near you." No, getting covered in mud wasn't on his agenda. Maybe commoners allowed themselves to be dirty all the time, but not him.

What was he saying? Was he trying to imply that Nanu falling face-first in the mud was painfully easy to predict? Well, she wasn’t usually clumsy so it just sounded as if he was making a rude assumption. He was like a mean adult trapped in a cub’s body.
“Cubs run, cubs play, cubs have fun, cubs fall. It’s noooooormal. You’re so weird, Grumpy.” She was looking at him as if he was the silliest thing she’d ever seen, an unwavering smile refusing to disappear from her little maw. “And for the son of a Princess, you’re not very nice.”
“Now, I’m gonna have a nice bath and cuddles from that nanny so I wouldn’t play with you even if you wanted to.” Oh, but he was just asking for it! Nanu grinned mischievously and ran past the brown cub, purposefully rubbing her muddy coat against the boy’s as she flew past him. “Bye, Grumpy!”
And then she erupted in laughter, running towards the nanny who’d been nice enough to get up before to see if she was alright without even looking back.

Shenu wondered what else he might be able to use this new talent for. He would have to experiement the next time he was alone.
"Well, maybe normal common cubs like you do. I, however, have other things that I do." Really, what would she know? He helped keep the place clear of rats and things. His tail twitched when she said he wasn't nice. Really? Why would he want to be nice?
"Well I don't want to play with you!" He growled as she got his beautiful coat all muddy. She could just run back to the nannies! Shenu could take care of himself. Stiff legged he stalked off to go clean his coat.

Nanu giggled when the boy growled but did not stop or look back. She placed herself squarely between the nanny’s front paws, looking up with a grin heavy in playfulness and mischief.
If she were to be completely honest with herself, she might admit to feeling somewhat embarrassed with her previous display but the fact that she had reacted so quickly, causing everyone to laugh with her instead of at her made it extremely easy to overcome – at least that’s how she saw it and that distinction made a huge difference. Even if it was on an unconscious level, it was a lesson Nanu would remember. Knowing when to laugh at herself and when not to take things too seriously. The cub purred happily, settling down to have her bath. - FIN! -
