Kaym'itan paced back and forth in front of Home Tree, his nerves playing out in a restlessness that he could not contain. He recited the advice Toruk had given him when he had slipped into his hammock as dawn was rising.
Calm, cool, collected, the night scout repeated over and over again as he waited to catch a glimpse of white fur among The People, as they began to finish up their day, which for Kaym'itan was just beginning.
Rukopa had become his constant companion for a few hours each night and each morning, listening to him as he taught her about Eywa and life among the Pride. Slowly she was learning to speak more and more words in their tongue, learning the First Songs cubs could sing by heart...and stealing his.
It had taken him only a few seven days for him to understand that Rukopa had far out shined his cubhood desire of Seze, and become the one he thought about before he slept and as he woke.
Taking a breath, he sat down, schooling his expression into its usually calm, the beautiful wrapped gift hidden between his huge paws. He could do this....couldn't he?

Rukopa-eupe had been enjoying the land. She had been here for weeks and already she had learned so much. Most of the thanks were due to Kaym’itan, who would meet with her before his nightly shifts. There, she would learn more and more with each passing minute, as well as enjoying the jungle just as it had awaken for it’s nightly escapade.
Today, before she had gone to meet Kaym, she had been exploring the paths through the trees. She still wasn’t the best climber (the small scuff marks on her legs proved this, as there were a few times she slipped from the branches, but manage to catch herself). Not the best, but you got to fall every now and then, right?
Just as the sun began to fade, Ru had bounded off to the usual meeting place just in front of Home Tree where she would see Kaym. Her steps were quiet as she neared, spotting the blue lion. A smile rose to her maw as she approached him.
“Oel ngati kameie," though her accent wasn’t perfect, she was able to annunciate the greeting clearly and without hesitance. As many times she had greeted the people, it should be down packed.

Kaym'itan looked up at her greeting, a smile spreading across his muzzle, "Oel ngati kameie, Sister," he dipped his shaggy head at her, " You are learning quickly Rukopa, soon you will not need me anymore."
His tone was light, a gentle tease in it that only Toruk ever heard. The night scout found it easy to speak with the pale lioness, all of his usual gruffness eased and the lion he might have been had the war not happened came to the surface. Kaym'itan sat down, his tail wrapping around his front paws, effectively hiding the carefully wrapped gift.
" Did you have a good day Sister?" He asked, always wanting to hear how she spent her time among the People. Through her fresh eyes, he was learning to See his Pride with the wide eyed wonder of a cub. Eywa had sent her, of this Kaym'itan was sure.

Her ears twitched when he spoke as she sat next to him. “Oh…I don’t know about that,” she purred quietly, smiling at the male. “There is still so much for me to learn,” her blue eyes focused onto Kaym, “besides, I do rather enjoy spending the evenings and mornings here with your, Brother.” It was true. Out of all the people that had established themselves within the pride, Ru had seen and talked to him the most.
“More or less,” she sighed. “I can’t climb trees,” and by climb, she could barely stand on the lowest of branches without fear gripping at her knees. She held up her paw, showing the black marks of where she had scraped against the tree as she fell.
“You’ll have to teach me one of these days.” She joked. “It’s probably better to learn with someone there!” if she ever happened to fall from some height, and no one was there, she could be in some serious trouble.

Kaym'itan'd heart skipped a beat at her purr, and the very fact that she enjoyed spending time with him made his chest feel funny. No this was nothing like what he had felt with Seze, this was so much more.
The male frowned at her scrape, cupping his own large paw under hers, examining it. He did not like that she had hurt herself, and had to resist the urge to sooth it with his tongue. " Did you need to see the healer Sister? It would not do to let it go untreated if it hurts you. The jungle can be unforgiving with infections." There was a note of worry in his voice as he released her paw.
Kaym'itan tilted his head, then chuckled warmly, " I would be very pleased to teach you to climb. It is not so hard as you may think. You just have to remember to not look down."

A…healer? Ru shuddered lightly at the thought of the creature. Ever since she was young, some kind of fear with them had been bestowed upon her. It even went so far one time that she actually wasn’t very pleasant with another lioness who had claimed she was a healer. Whenever Ru had gotten a scrape or two on her, she just settled with the ache it gave, and whatever ailments may have arrived from it. (Though, luckily she hadn’t been so unlucky to get infections from old wounds.)
“Um…I..think it’s okay…” She hesistated for a moment. “I’ll keep an eye on it, and…uh…if it gets bad I will go…to one?” She frowned slightly. The lioness really did not like the idea of the healer business.
Her mood instantly turned back around at his chuckle. “Well then. I do believe that is my downfall, Brother. I just can’t help not looking down!” She had to see where she was going, did she not? It was a force of habit if anything.

Kaym'itan tilted his head at the sudden anxiousness that crept into her voice at the mention of a healer. Reaching out with his paw he settled it over her own, " If it gets any worse, let me look at it. Toruk and I learned how to care for our own scrapes and scratches during the war." He kept his voice very gentle and low, letting her know he would not hurt her in anyway.
He did smile when she made the quip about looking down, a warm laugh leaving him. The large male had a good laugh, his voice seemed made for it, with his deep, earth tones. It lite his crimson eyes and relaxed his expression, making him appear his age, rather then the seasons older he seemed to carry on his broad shoulders.
" There is a simple solution for that Sister, I will just have to be sure to be on the branch below you, so all you can see is my back and not the jungle floor." Kaym'itan did not remove his paw from where it rested on hers, his mirth still echoing in his crimson colored eyes.

Rukopa-eupe was felt a sense of relief flood over her when he spoke that he would help her if anything aroused from the wounds. Even though the lioness distrusted healers for an unknown reason, she knew that the azure lion did not bear the title of healer; if he had, Ru would still trust him. He hadn’t led her astray yet, why should he start now?
Her cornflower blue eyes gazed down, spotting his tail had a small lump at the tuft. Was it resting on a rock?
She glanced back into his crimson eyes as he spoke. A giggle couldn’t help but escape her maw. Somehow she doubt that would work, for just knowing how high up in the trees they would cause her heart to race. ‘Mind over matter,’ she thought to herself, giving Kaym a curt nod, as her paw was removed from his.
“Irayo*, Brother.” she said. (She was able to pick up more of the language by listening to other pride members speak.) “Thank you for everything.” She leaned into him, rubbing her cheek against his fluffy mane. She was grateful. Truly she was.
[*Thank You]

Kaym'itan felt oddly bereft when she removed her paw from his, but the feeling suddenly changed into one of pure delight as she rubbed a cheek along his ruff. He forgot to breathe for a moment, and his stomach did an odd flip as she said thank you.
" Kea kin irayo," He said with another one of his rare smiles, though around the white pelted lioness, it wasn't so. She could make him smile with a simple shy look, or her silvery laugh, " It has been my pleasure Sister, truly."
The night scout hesitated for a moment, then with a slightly nervous expression he slid something forward with his paw, out from under his tail, "I..I noticed you didn't have a hammock yet...and well...my friend, Sylwanin, is one of the finest weavers among the People. She made this for you, um..from me and the jewelery inside. I..I hope you like it..." Kaym'itan finished awkwardly as he waited for her to take it.
The hammock he had seen, and had been proud that Sylwanin had woven into the strands one of the atokirina' which Ru's coat had always reminded Kaym'itan of, the jewelery his friend had sent him to Kaneon, but the designs had been kept hidden, a surprise the crafter's had said for both Ru and he.

Ru’s eyes widened as her heart gave a small flutter. A…gift? For her? As the dark blue lion pushed the carefully wrapped gift towards her, she hesitated to reach for it. No one had really ever given something like this before. She really did need to get a hammock, ever since she had been here, she settled for sleeping on the jungle floor. Now, she could really be like one of the People.
“Wow…” just a stunned expression remained on her face. She carefully began unwrapping, making sure to not tear the hammock with her claws. A small glint caught her attention, her actions slightly increasing in pace in anticipation. There, amidst the hammock, a large silver band with small blue strings attached. A bracelet? And near that, a few bluish feathers connected to rings matched her appearance perfectly.
Already the night was beginning to settle on the jungle landscapes; the creatures that Rukopa had seen her first night in the pride were beginning to come out. Their luminescence had caused the jewelry to twinkle amongst the awakening new life.
Her eyes rested on one more piece of jewelry; a necklace laced with blue and cyan colored beads. A small sniffle reached to her nose. She was just so happy that tears were welling up in the corner of her eyes. “I…I don’t even know what to say…” Thank you was an understatement.

Kaym'itan took a breath, his heart slamming against his rib cage like a trapped bird. He knew it was easier to face a enemy, then what he was about to do in the next few seconds, perhaps the most important few seconds in his life.
" Say that you like them Yawne and that you will hang your hammock near mine." His deep voice was gentled, the gruffness that usually painted it, softer somehow as he dared to step closer to her, " That you feel as if you are one of us, and that you desire to stay here within the Pride, among the People."
Around them the little Fan Lizards were taking flight, zipping this way and that, the flora they landed beside lighting up the night, bathing them both in the purples, blues, greens and whites of the bioluminescent night.

Ru wasn’t quite sure what /yawne/ meant, but she probably could figure the word out just from within its context. A few more weeks and she would know most if not all the words that Na’vi people would speak of.
“I don’t just like them,” she paused, bringing the trinkets closer to herself, “I love them. It would be an honor and a blessing to be allowed to hang this hammock near yours.” Rukopa stated softly, her tail flickered against the ground with small light thumps as he stepped closer to her. “I now feel as I am a part of the people, and will never have the desire to leave this pride. This is now my home.” In her heart, she added Our Home. Together. She kept her final words silent.
She would one day express her feelings for this male, and now would have been the perfect chance; however, the thought of saying those three words just as he was about to start his duties just didn’t seem right. Ru wanted to wait until she could express those words, and then the two could spend more time together afterward.

Kaym'itan smiled at her words, and daringly, he brought a paw out to touch her cheek gently, " Come, let me help you hang your hammock. Toruk will not mind if I am a little late, its not as if he has never stolen extra moments with his priestess."
Picking the hammock up in his mouth he turned to move up into the branches of Hometree, looking at Ru over his shoulder, the tenderness in his crimson eyes only for her.
Somehow she'd managed to sooth the ache in his heart, after so many had been lost. She'd made him remember that there was beauty in Eywa's light, and she had been his atokirina and lead him back not to the People, but to himself.

Time had stopped the moment his paw touched her cheek. The whirling sound of the fan lizards has ceased, the small rustles against the foliage was silenced. At this time, it was only her and him. No other distractions.
But just as quickly as the moment came, it was gone within an instant as Kaym’itan picked up her hammock and headed into the trees. She sighed as her heart gave a flutter, the sounds of the jungle life stirring up again as she flashed a toothy smile, following right after him.
