What's creepy about that to you? Or is it something in the link?
Also, what's a "twic" card? I've never heard of it.

To the best of my knowledge they just do very, very thorough background checks and interviews. What they require of you once you actually get clearance is another matter entirely though and not something I have knowledge of.

if you are the guy working in the shipping yards in some port somewhere, your job is more important to national security than TSA, because you are the last line of defense for things like weapons grade uranium. The biometric thing is idiotic though, since someone could just stab you to death, cut out your eyeballs and saw off your hand with a hacksaw (or cutco steak knife) in four or five minutes, then walk right up to the scanners without a problem.
Extensive background checks for secret security clearance are a better way of profiling people in this job description. The idea that there are no suicidal people who want to blow up America is ridiculous. Everytime one of our drones blows up some family somewhere in the middle east, we piss off another person, and once in a while, they have engineering buddies or well financed cousins.
Therefore, to prevent cities from going up in a flash of light, Twic exists. But again, the biometrics thing is intrusive and worthless, almost as worthless as the airport scanners and TSA agents. Ironically, Twic is the reason TSA in airports makes no sense. If it gets passed you, it's already too late.

That is so ridiculously silly. But at this point, it's not like we have much anonymity anyway. Unless you live off the grid.
