Calder liked his little strolls at night. It was the one time he could change into his more natural form and just take a breather. It was rather hard being a white, normal-looking horse during the day when people could actually spot you. He'd already encounter G in his natural form and the monster had all but flipped out at the 'pretty pony' swimming with him. Luckily, he barely encountered anyone late at night that were trotting through the student-approved wooden areas on campus. He lingered by the rivers as far as his 2-foot restriction would let him, but just liked expending the energy he had that would have otherwise been used swimming. Running was it. He loved racing and prancing and even jumping over stumps and logs. He felt rather badass about it too. This was flying. Belladonna's broom had nothing on these mad skills.

Rather excited from a quick run, he was trotting about in a field, kicking and bucking for the sheer hell of it. It was fun to just be a monster and let loose. Students in this school were so uptight and so restrained. No one just shouted and ran for the sake of running and yelling. Throwing his head back, he gave a loud neigh and whinny before he continued to prance about.

Efflo, his usual sad and melancholy self, grazed idly in his field. He couldn't eat in horse form but going through the motions was a habit he'd had for as long as he could remember. It comforted him in this strange world. He particular enjoyed his night-time solitude, away from all the hubbub of the school. He had been wandering another world alone for centuries and to be suddenly thrust into a bustling school filled with all sorts of ghouls and goblins, well, often times the poor horse didn't know what to do with himself.

What he did like to do was find places he could just be a horse as often as possible. Though it might seem a menial, dull existence to some, it was all he knew. He wasn't some ancient demon with wicked spells or a real zombie out for delicious brains, no, he was just a dead farm animal. Albeit he was somehow undead and had a skull for a face but he still felt like just livestock, especially amongst everyone here.

Muddled in thought, he continued to snap fruitlessly at the long blades of grass, he'd be an effective lawnmower should the school ever needed one. All of a sudden his ears flicked back, he'd heard something. Odd, he thought, who would be out here of all places? And hours?

Though his bony face failed to accurately register it, the black horse was surprised, and somewhat relieved, to see it was only a fellow equine frolicking about. Though not entirely sure if the horse was friend or foe, at least it was one of his own (or so he thought). He would have had no time to hide otherwise and even then, it's pretty difficult to hide when you glow in the dark.

Excited, a rare occasion for the bony boy, he whinnied a shrill greeting to the white horse, galloping to meet him.

In all his prancing about, he barely noticed another horse. Didn't notice because as far as he had seen and heard, there WERE no other horse creatures. It had been a very disappointing idea, and he was rather sad about it. Aside from Professor Alabaster, he seemed to be the only one with a horse nature. It was then that he was totally caught off guard to hear – a whinny. And a whinny he knew. It mean 'Hello there!'

He stopped his jumping and kicking about immediately, frozen as his ears went up and he breathed in. No. He didn’t just hear a horse. He hadn't see the campus use horses in any way. Not even a carriage. But he heard it and, looking about, he saw a horse glowing his way. GLOWING! It had a bright aura of green and was messing its face. While it might have been upsetting for others, Calder could only think of one thing. So cool. It was certainly more scary than his pristine white horse form. No sunken ribs, gaping wounds, or even a gorgeous hair out of place. Calder was the fail of Halloween creatures. The only thing was that he looked TOO pretty, in a way that attempted to startle a person with its beauty.

Nostrils flaring, he stayed still, heart pounding, before he threw his head back and gave an excitable whinny. IT WAS ANOTHER HORSE! Oh happy day times a thousand Halloweens. He didn't know if it was student or some faculty pet, but darn it, it was a horse and he wanted to meet it.

Trotting over, he met the other, breathing in its scent and being mindful not to startle it. Little excited half whinnies and bouncy prances continued as he trotted about. Testing it out, he called out. "Ello Er"!

Efflo saw the other creature pause but it did not slow his course, he was far too excited to slow down. As he drew closer, the other horse revealed himself to be a stunning equine specimen, his white coat shining as brilliantly as Efflo's glow in the night. To the undead horse, the other was very much a sight for sore eyes. He wasn't scary or bloodthirsty, he wasn't some abomination he had never heard of before. He was merely a horse, the first normal monster Efflo had encountered thus far. Not that he had encountered many; the pony boy definitely kept to himself.

He was still wary of the other horse's intentions until it met his greeting with a jubilant hello of its own. He whinnied back once more, finally slowing to a trot as the two met. His neck was arched, his tail plumed behind him like a banner in his exuberance. He whickered and snorted, whuffled and squealed at the white horse, prancing around him. He only hoped the other wouldn't be put off by his own marred appearance. Once he had been a fine colt but now, now he was only a bag of bones.

He stopped short all of a sudden, wheeling to face the other when he spoke. Had he heard correctly? He studied him quizzically, a horse that could speak? All at once, it was though he were a deflating balloon. He wanted so very much to say hello back but in order to do that... He'd have to be standing on two legs, in that awful, awful form. He stretched his neck out, his skeletal face drawing close to the white horse's. He sniffed at him, making soft noises before pulling his head back with a snort. Oh, if only he could talk!

It had been a test. Merely that. He knew some words he could say in his horse tongue. Really, it wasn't the same as a humanoid, but the other only two languages he knew was naturally horse and kelpie. Kelpie was more natural this way, but saying just that short sentence had been hard. It made his tongue feel floppy. When the other creature didn't respond, he guessed he was just not one who could. No matter. In these forms, they could share their own common vernacular.

Shaking it off, he simple stood there, bringing his muzzle close to the other's nose and sniffing him. He seemed friendly, and he didn't smell anything on him that said to run away. In fact, he was more than excited to know he smelled just fine and dandy, if not a little rotten.

Making a short clip of a whinny, he trotted about, pawing the ground and prancing about. He was out. He had a new friend who clearly was out too. Why not play?!!!

Truthfully, Efflo had never tried to speak. Before he died, the horses he knew could not speak... But everything was a bit different here and there was quite possibly a lot he failed to notice about the world he had come from. He stood still for a moment, his expressionless face conveying nothing but inwardly, his countenance was perplexed. He grunted, then coughed as several moths flew from his throat.

Wait for me!” he gasped, his voice a thin, feeble thing, grown raspy from long disuse. He shook his head, did he really just say something? It wasn't anything understandable to humans but somehow he knew the other would understand. In a sudden burst, he hurtled forward, neighing loudly as he passed the white horse.

Let's race!” his voice swelled, the boy inexplicably happy to have made a friend, and a horse friend at that.

While it sounded a bit dusty and raw, at least his new friend was talking. No need to be shy here. Just two horses having fun. SUPER FUN! If Calder's face muscles could pull off a smile any better, he would be beaming wide. Instead, he gave off all the signs of being happy. Ears up, tail flicking with delight, and jumping around with a bubbly energy that said he was SO GAME for fun. With recently being a bit in the dumps and very home sick, running with someone similar to his kind was therapeutic and rewarding.

Trotting around, he stopped and bobbed his head. 'YES! Let's race! How about….to the gnarly dead tree past the swamps? Do you know it? We can race there!" Then again, the campus had a lot of dead trees. "It looks like a it's a dead spider on its back!"
