The page was turned over, making a brushing noise as the old paper passed each other. The black ink formed neat, curved letters along the page. 'Ancient Runes' is printed in large letters at the top of the page. Ezra read the first page briefly, before slamming the delicate book shut. 'Right, that's enough studying for me!' He thought happily, before sliding the book into his drawer and leaving the common room.
Ezra made his way aimlessly through the halls of Hogwarts, not having any particular place or goal in mind. "Maybe I'll run into an angry Slytherin? A good fight would be fun!" He muttered to himself with a smirk.

Elliot was late!
Well, he wasn't late for any particular class. However, he was getting a very late start on his History of Magic paper. It was a good two and a half feet of parchment, due on Monday, and it was already Saturday. He was usually a diligent student, getting his papers done early so that he could make certain he would receive a good grade. No, Elliot was not a procrastinator...
Somehow, it had completely slipped his mind. His mother had sent him an interesting new book on the care of thestrals and he had become so engrossed that his assignment escaped him. He was regretting it now! He hadn't gotten to the library in time and many of the better books had already been checked out. He was left with only an old, dusty, comprehensive book of magic from the 1700s. That would severely limit his choice of time periods!
Poor Elliot was so late, he decided that he should multitask and begin browsing the book (It didn't even have an index!) while making his way back to the Ravenclaw tower. Unfortunately, Elliot should have known better than to do this. He didn't have the best coordination to begin with, and adding the distraction of reading on top of that was a recipe for disaster.
Given these circumstances, Elliot soon found himself barreling into the chest of another student. He didn't even see it coming...
"Eyaa..!" he exclaimed upon collision with the unfortunate Gryffindor, tumbling to the side, just catching himself upright and clutching the library book. He soon found himself blurry-eyed, glasses having escaped him. He touched the bridge of his nose, plagued by a terrible sense of emptiness...

As he turned a corner, Ezra was faced with an unexpected surprise. His eyes widened as the small black blur barreled into his chest. Luckily the Gryffindor usually had a firm stance and wasn't knocked over, but he did stumble back a few paces before gathering his head and realizing what had happened. His angry eyes quickly focused on the Ravenclaw boy.
"Watch it!" he snarled bitterly, looming over the boy. He was about to give him a firm smack against the back of his head for not paying attention when he noticed the sadness on the boy's face. Ezra's face crinkled with confusion as he glanced across the floor. It only took a second before he noticed the glasses that sat on the wood, gleaming in the sparse slits of light.
Ezra let out a sigh as he picked up the glasses and held them out to the boy. "These yours?" he asked with a cocked eyebrow. He couldn't fight this kid, he looked so... pathetic. And confused.

In his blindness, Elliot felt awfully defenseless. He had already begun to panic. What if the unfortunate person with whom he had collided stepped on his glasses- accidentally or intentionally?! He really wouldn't be able to get a new pair. He wondered if someone would even be able to repair something like that or if he would just be sightless for the rest of the year, or at least until his mother could get a new pair for him!
When he realized that the other kid must have been offering them back to him, Elliot was hit with a wave of relief. Like a child coveting its favorite toy, the Ravenclaw quickly swiped his glasses back, holding them for a moment to make sure they were his before shoving them onto his face. He blinked and the world suddenly came back into focus!
"Oh, merci, thank you!" he said to the other boy, rubbing his eyes where tear buds had already started to form while he had distressed himself. "I was not paying attention..."

Ezra couldn't help but crack a smile when he saw the relief on the boy's face. He seemed so lost without his glasses, something that the Gryffindor couldn't quite understand. I mean, he could always get new ones right? So what was the big deal? Nonetheless, doing the good deed for the boy seemed to have cheered him, replacing his boredom with a satisfied joy.
"No worries," He said coolly, trying to regain his bad-boy attitude. Seeing the half-formed tears, Ezra almost let out a long 'awwwwww'. The kid was hopeless! "Clearly.." He muttered with a smirk as the Ravenclaw made excuses.
Holding out his hand for a firm handshake, Ezra beamed happily, revealing his pearly teeth. "The name's Ezra," He introduced.

Elliot was very thankful to have his glasses back on his face where they belonged. He was also very happy that they had not somehow shattered immediately upon contact with the ground. He could also thank Ezra for not stepping on them or cracking them in two or any other terrible thing that he could have done! Elliot thought that he probably would have been doomed had it been one of his many friends...
"I am Elliot," he said quickly, dismissing his name as relatively unimportant. "And I am so thankful that you helped me!"
The Ravenclaw gladly took the other boy's hand, shaking it up and down violently- too violently to be polite, but in a very innocent, enthusiastic manner. He smiled back at Ezra, exposing the small gap between his two front teeth- hey, they weren't perfect, but he didn't mind them!
"I was just in such a hurry to start on my paper... I had forgotten about it until today, you see!"

Ezra had to admit that the boy looked more... right with the glasses on his face, as if they belonged there. He wasn't sure if it was the shape of his face, or even maybe that they matched his eyes. All he knew was that he was very glad to have given them back to him.
It was hard for Ezra to catch the boy's name, it sounded more like a passing comment than an introduction really. He chuckled lightly at Elliot's thanks, about to tell him not to worry about it, when he felt his arm fly out of it's socket. Well, that's what he thought had happened anyway because of how vigorously the Ravenclaw was shaking it.
Finally Elliot let go, and Ezra's arm quickly fell limp at his side. "Nice handshake!" He said sincerely with a laugh. Who knew someone so little could have such a firm grip!
Tilting his head, Ezra shrugged. "Whatever, it happens to the best of us. Don't worry abo- hey, what paper?" The Gryffindor stopped himself mid-sentence. Maybe this kid could help him with his work? See, while Ezra was charismatic enough to bluff his way through any oral, written work wasn't really his forte.
