Zanthoxylum licked his paws with the umps nonchalance during the early morning. Yasen was still asleep in one of the dens they had found the night before. The two brothers had shared it while the brothers granted their sister, Xanthoxylodies, the other den. He stretched again, his claws flexing and he crossed his forelegs. Yasen had had a long day yesterday, but he almost expected Xanthoxylodies to be up and awake, or at least to be stirring. Well, he would if she weren't such a lazy ingrate that just came and went as she pleased and mooched off of Zanth's generosity. He sighed, though he hated his sister, he couldn't help but feel like he owed it to her as brethren, although he always told himself "this will be the last time I help her. The last time." And that's what he said the last time before that and the time before that.

The brown and tawny male stretched and groomed his fur back into place the moment he woke up. He couldn't stand not looking up to snuff- or past it. He shook out any dust and threw a glance back over his shoulder at the lioness that he had shared the evening with. She was curled up as far away from him as possible, her face contorted with the dreams she was having. She had kicked him several times in her sleep, but the happenings before had made it... sufferable at least.
She was white and black and grey and had fancied that she had lured him to her den, but Tichaona was no fool. He wanted from her exactly the same thing.

Zanthoxylum heard stirring from his sister's den and looked over to see her emerge. He put on a forced smile and a fake laugh. "It looks like you're up early, sister." He stood and shook out any dust or tiredness that lingered in his coat. His grey back soaked up the little bit of sunlight and warmth that had yet to come across the lands.
Prey animals were already up and at it, no grogginess was seen among the herd of grazers, they were wary of the lion though he had no intent of such an early morning meal. He waited for his sister to emerge from the den and was quite surprised at what actually emerged.

A light brown mane poked out of the den before it was followed by the dark brown body of Tichaona. He hadn't been told of any relatives that would be there to see him off in the morning. No, the female had said that her brothers would be gone on a hunting trip for days. He sneered back at the den. What a lying... He quickly wiped the dirty look from his face and replaced it with a gentile smile and cleared his throat.
However, he didn't speak. He wasn't really sure of what to say. 'Hi, I slept with your sister last night, now I'm leaving ideally never to see her again, but if she got knocked up, just find me and bring me the cubs so I can raise and she'll never see them again blah blah blah.'
Yeah, that didn't sound like a very good plan.

Zanthoxylum was startled and taken aback by the male that emerged from his sister's den. His ears flattened back against his head and raised an eyebrow. His first thought was of concern for her safety, but then he remembered his sister was a bit of a loose woman or a floozy or a seductress or a... well she was kind of a slut. Not to be mean or anything, but this wasn't the first time that she had let a lion spend the night. Of course he typically never met said lion, instead he would just catch the smell of lion (or leopard or cheetah) on her fur or in her den. She didn't even try to hide it. Sometimes it was like she was just trying to make him mad.
He sighed and didn't know what to say. 'Did you have a nice night?' Ugh. Goodness no.
"Uh. Hi..."
That would have to do.

Tichaona cleared his throat and bobbed his head. This must be that lioness' twin. Her eyes were the opposite of his and he became uncomfortable seeing her eyes staring back at him when he remembered the way they had looked at him the night before.
Oh this was awkward and uncomfortable and he didn't quite know how to handle this. He was far from his pride and his usual consort, Kifelwe, and he wasn't quite up to par with dealing with family members of hook ups. With Kifelwe it was easy. Find Kifelwe. Go to his den. Try to make heirs. Kick her out. Repeat. It was an arms race of sort- but for heirs- between him and his co-king, Mweyne.
Therefore, Tichaona had taken out-of-pride measures. Of course this also left Kifelwe with Mweyne, but the old male was probably infertile by now. Tichaona would win.
But even if this lioness did produce his cubs, he wasn't so sure about getting them now. Even as he stood there, he heard another lion's roar from the den the twin was standing beside. It was the kind of growl that one made in their sleep while stretching, but that meant that there were two males to his one self.
"Uhm. Hello..."

Zanthoxylum cast his eyes to the sky. "So, uhm." He snuck a glance at the brown male who seemed to be feeling just as awkward and uncomfortable and uneasy as he was. Damn his sister. Damn her! He wouldn't put it past her to be watching from her den right now, trying to bite her tongue to keep from laughing. She would do anything to make him uncomfortable or to cause him unease. She was probably trying to make a fool out of her one-night-stand too.
But Zanth didn't excuse this male from all blame. No, he looked like the kind of male that would know what he was getting himself into. He just shrugged and adopted a more stony demeanor.
"Why don't you just go?"

The brown male felt intimidated for the first time in a long time by this lion. He nodded his head in agreement and threw one last glance back at the den. Yes, it would be best just to cut his losses faced with this lion and his family. He gave the strange male a bob of his head and set off to his homeland. He felt like it would be best to stay in his own territory for a while. He'd had another bad run in with a male just last week it seemed. He'd have to regroup and get back into the swing of things, so to speak.
After a while, he didn't even bother to look back because he felt the eyes of that male on the back of his head, boring into him, and it chilled him to the bone. The end. 1,180 words
