Siro could hear the sounds coming from deeper in the trees. Closer to the stream and he couldn't help but be intrigued. He had yet to catch more than a glimpse of the mare he now stalked. But today he was going to meet her, to see her and to claim her. She would be his by the days end he vowed. It was a vow he made daily after he first saw her from the corner of his eye. She was beautiful, and she would be even better next to him. So why was it he could hear two voices in the clearing near the water, not just hers. Jealousy grew as he crept closer to the sound.
Lao Shu watched the sun glimmer and shine off of Lao Hu's coat as they lay near the river. It was the first time in a long time that he was able to catch her alone just to be with her like old times before they both grew up and became adults. It was so much easier as foals he thought lazily.
Lao Hu turned to watch her companion, she had known him her whole life and wouldn't know what to do without him. It had been years it seemed since the last time they were able to sit and talk just like before. Without any pressures or influences.
"You know...If you hadn't run off the last time we were here we might have gotten some of the awkward hello how do you dos out of the way. But as it stands I have to do all this awkward courting of you just so that I can tell you hello just so that I can see you alone!"
Shu's voice grew quiet as he looked around. It wasn't every day he was allowed to spend such time with Hu, in fact since they were infants they had been groomed to a life of luxury and responsibilities. Of course Shu embraced that life just as he did everything else but Hu hadn't seemed to care one bit about it.
"It was a choice that had to be made...where would we be if I hadn't run off that day. I'd have settled down with you no less and we'd have had children that would have to deal with all our responsibilities! I would never agree to such a thing...can't you just see me a mother?"
Her laugh floated through the clearing as she shook her head,
"No it's better this way."

Finally seeing more than a tiny glimpse of the mare that haunted his dreams he watched from the cover of the trees. Her tawny coat glimmering in the sunlight as she lay near another. His heart racing. Was she with that stallion? Was she taken? No it couldn't be like that...because well because Siro was supposed to claim her. She would be his. He would promise her the world she would see that soon enough.
As he stood watch listening to their conversation he found his dislike for the stallion growing stronger and stronger. With his braided tail, and buck teeth Siro felt the disdain grow until he couldn't help himself. Pushing through the tree line he walked very slowly and quietly in to the clearing. He was a little smug when he saw the stallions reaction to having an audience,
"Ahem...Hello there...I'm sorry to intrude but..."

Shu looked up to see a blue stallion with a tail similiar to Hu standing in the clearing and couldn't help but find himself a little jealous and a lot angry. Hearing his smug satisfation in his greeting Shu found himself standing in between his lady and this new comer.
"I beg your pardon...are you lost? Can you not see that you are intruding on a private conversation between my lady and I?"
From the noise that came from Hu he knew he would catch grief for calling her his lady and for standing between her and any form of adventure or danger in this case.
"Oh Lao Shu don't be silly, we were just having a friendly conversation...besides, your being rude."
She stepped around Shu to try and get a better look at the stallion that so rudely interrupted a very boring and uncomfortable conversation between the two friends. He was like nothing she had seen before, she had met others like herself of course the twany tigerish variety, but never a blue stallion so striking and so daring. She could feel her heart beat a little faster as she stepped up to greet the new comer.
"I'm sorry about him...Lao Shu believes that I'm still a young filly and forgets his manners. I'm Lao Hu, and you would be?"
Siro watched in amazement at how quickly the stallion named Lao Shu came to her aid, perhaps he had his work cut out for him. But the minute he heard Lao Hu speak he felt as if he was on a cloud high above like the winds that he had seen in the air. Lao Hu he mused a beautiful and fitting name he thought, she seemed independent and a bit headstrong he could get used to that. Clearing his throat he said slowly,
"I am Siro Banniarnith...you can call me Siro M'lady."
He marveled over her coat and her tail as it twitched back and forth,
"I am very sorry I intruded I just..."
He knew he had to play this just right.

"You just saw her and had to have her...blablabla"
Lao Shu cut in curtly. He wasn't very happy with the intrusion especially since he was about to tell Lao Hu about her parents plans for her. He was going to once again ask her to be his beloved. It didn't work the first time she ran but this time he thought he had given her enough time and space. But the way their conversation had been going he was sure he would have to resort to her parents.
"SHU! Watch your tone...it's not nice to talk to someone you don't know like that. I cannot believe you have lost your manners..."
She knew that he was getting annoyed but it wasn't this stallions fault that she was going to tell Shu yet again no. But perhaps his timing could have been better. Looking at Shu she continued,
"Perhaps...you could go find some apples...and I'll be with you shortly we can continue our talk then?"
Shu felt the blush on his cheeks as she was reprimanding him, her tone gave him cause to stop before he found himself in deep trouble. But when she made mention to leave her alone with this strange stallion he started to protest until the look on her face clearly answered his unvoiced argument. She wasn't going to listen to him, no way no how. It would be best if he just did as she asked and made sure to keep close enough to help if she needed it. Huffing slightly he passed by Siro hitting him slightly as he walked. He would have to explain to this stallion in due time that Hu was not a prize he could easily win.

Siro watched Lao Hu very carefully, ignoring Lao Shu completely. Smiling at the mare he would claim he felt at ease when Lao Shu was out of sight, clearly not out of hearing however.
Hu sighed softly,
"I'm very sorry about him...Lao Shu still keeps to the mind that I will be his betrothed..."
Her smiled and laughter taking Siro by surprise as she continued,
"I don't think any stallion would be willing to keep the courtship up after the first couple of attempts. Ah...I'm sorry...I don't mean to let you know our problems."
Tilting her head to the side she narrowed her eyes on him,
"Were you spying on me?"
"Uh...Spying? Uh...no...no I mean...."
Siro felt the colour flush as he tried to explain his being here. He was already at a disadvantage due to Shu being her betrothed...he would need to do something and fast.
"I heard your laugh..I came to investigate...I heard a little of your converstaion, I'm sorry. But I thought perhaps..."
Smirking because he knew Shu would be near enough to hear,
"I thought that you could use some intervention. Perhaps a place to run away to since it seemed as if you wanted saving."
Hu's eyes gave away her intentions before she could even reprimand this stallion Siro.
"Oh you thought I needed saving? You thought me fragile and in need of assistance?"
She was mildly annoyed but at the same time intrigued. Siro could perhaps offer her the adventure she longed for the freedom she needed. But her mind continued to remind her she needed to play this cool he could be another stallion that wanted to claim her.

"Uh...no I thought you...uhm...needed adventure...and the world!"
Siro winced at her anger. It wasn't going well for him and he could hear that silly buck toothed stallion sniggering. Bowing his head he said very quietly,
"All I can do is promise you everything...I can't promise you the life of luxury...but I can promise you everything."
Hu smiled softly, promises...he could only give promises not facts not guarantees. Only promises, she could live with that. She would get to know him...she would maybe even fall in love with him. Smiling she turned from him,
"Promises I can live on promises...I'll race you"
Shu swore as he watched Hu and the stallion racing. He never understood her concept of running away. But for once in his life he felt content to just stay and let her be. He would have to explain where she went this time. But seeing her reaction seeing her happiness. He couldn't find any sorrow in his own heart. She was where she ought to be he thought.
"...don't think I'll make it easy on you tho Siro..."
Shu said quietly, no he would be happy for Hu, but he wouldn't let Siro know that. It would be more fun this way.
