To say that he was nervous was an understatement, Behnam thought as he approached Pad Obadias's den. He had never met the other pad, and he was asking for his daughter. It seemed a bit abrupt, didn't it? He frowned, slightly, wondering if he should have waited for Scheherazade to be older... No, he thought. If she was older he would have more competition, right? She was such a beautiful, smart little thing already. "Excuse me," he called to the den, "I would like to speak with Pad Obadias, if I could? I am Pad Behnam, son of Pad Nywele and Beybanu Amani." Maybe having a god for a father might give him some bonus points. He hoped.

Admittedly, napping in the den was a foolish thing to do, but there were new cubs everywhere -some of which were his, but no one knew, as they stayed all day in his brother's den with their mother - and it was just exhausting. His own babies had grown enough that he didn't need to fuss over them quite as much but he kind of missed that.
Startling at the sound of a voice at the edge of the den, Obadias jerked up, eyes wide in the darkness as he looked towards. "Oh," he said quietly, stiffling a yawn as he realised someone was after him. Odd. No one really sought him out. He stretched as he stood and padded into the light by the edge of the den.
Obadias was not a gentle looking male, obtaining most of his dark markings from his father who was not well known for his kindness, but he was not aggressive and instead he was a gentle male, though he looked dazed due to a lack of sleep.
"Nywele?" He repeated. "I met your father when I was a cub!" He paused, eying the other male. "That makes me feel old," he remarked and shook his head.
"What did you need, Pad Behnam?"

"I take after my mother," Behnam admitted. "But I would like to... um, well, you see," he said, sitting down and taking a deep breath. "I have to admit that before my journey to find a banu I spent some time with your adopted daughter Scheherazade," he started out.
"During that time we got to know each other somewhat, and I must admit to having been a bit... starstruck by her. She is a very straightforward female. I find it extremely refreshing," he went on, with a hint of amusement. "She still makes fun of my mane," he added dryly. There was a grin on his face that said he didn't mind it very much. "I'm quite fond of my mane, of course, but it is a bit unruly--"
He was getting off subject, and he only just then realized it, so he stopped.

Obadias listened to the male speak, an odd look passing across his face when he heard that his daughter had spent time in the company of the male. It was not that he thought the male was mean or evil, but it was still a shock to remember that his daughters were in fact growing up and they would be garnering lots of attention from males. They took after their mother, after all, he thought fondly, before refocusing on the male.
He looked amused when the male went off on a tangent about his mane. Well, what he was describing certainly sounded like his daughter! He thought with an inward chuckle. "That does sound like Scheherazade," he murmured fondly.
He thought of scolding the male, but realised he couldn't. After all, he and Parvana, his beybanu, had snuck off together countless times when they were younger and while it wasn't proper, Obadias could understand why people would do so. He'd have been heartbroken if someone had kept him away from Parvana as a youth.
"And your guilt over compromising her integrity by meeting her alone countless times as prompted you to tell me this?" He asked, with a quirked brow that belied his confusion. Why was Behnam telling him this? Obadias was not aware of why the male had approached him.

"No, of course not," Behnam said. "Nothing untoward happened between us," he added quickly. "We merely talked. There were others around to... make sure nothing would happen. So I don't suppose you could call it 'alone' actually."
Now was the more difficult part. "Your daughter is very beautiful, but it's more than just that. Scheherazade is my best friend aside from family. I love her very much. That is why I have come, asking for your permission to make her my banu."

Obadias was thankful that others had been around at their meetings. Not tha the was a violent male, but if something bad had happened, he would have protected his daughter. This male did not seem threatening however, and he eyed him as he spoke, complimenting his daughter. He nodded. He knew she was beautiful, though he was surprised to hear that she was his best friend as well.
At the end, the request for permissions should not have come as a surprise, but it did and his eyes widened slightly, then narrowed. "You are aware that she is not like you?" He said. "She is a leopard. Any offspring with her will be hybrids, should you take her as your banu." It would be a problem all of his adopted children woudl have but he just needed to know that this male was aware.

Behnam looked at the other male, cocking his head slightly. "My father is a god," he said very quietly, very simply. "My mother is not like him. That makes me a seer, which is something neither of them are. It does not mean they don't love me, nor does it mean they look at each other with scorn or disgust simply because one is different from the other."
He had a very mature expression on his face, one that said he had thought about this often. "But unlike them, I will be lucky and have a similar lifespan to Scheherazade. My father will long outlive my mother."

Obadias was pleased with the response, though he tried not to let it show. What? It was a little silly, he knew but he had to make sure this Behnam was good enough for his little girl. She was one of the only daughters he could exude this type of protectiveness over and not gather suspicions. "A good point," Obadias conceded, a little saddened at the thought of the God outliving his mortal mate. So bitter sweet, he mused.
"Do you have any other Banu in your harem yet?" He asked, still not giving the male his permission. He would, in the end, but first he wanted to know a few more things about him. "I assume you have already been on your quest."

"I have," Behnam said. "I brought home a lovely lioness named Faraji'kai, or Fara. She is very understanding," he added with another smile. "She only laughed a little bit when she found me eating dirt instead of rabbit."
He was extremely modest for the son of a god, almost shockingly so. But when you grow up knowing that your father can fly, you learn to take stock of your own abilities quickly.
"I think she and Scheherazade should get along very well. I hope, at least," he added.

Obadias nodded, pleased that he already had a banu. That meant he wasn't simply taking Scheherazade because he needed a banu to impress the other Pads. He wasn't unable to stop the smile that twisted his mouth at the comment of him eating dirt rather than a rabbit. "Happens to all of us," Obadias remarked, with a slight grin. "Some more than others though." Learning to hunt had been...fun, for Obadias, as he'd gotten the hang of it in the end but it was not amusing to look back on.
"Scheherazade is an adaptive young lady," he said calmly, still eyeing the male. "How does she feel about you wanting to take her as a banu , or have you not told her yet?"

"I told her. In fact I told her to look for a pad while I was on my voyage, and if she hadn't found one by the time I came back, I would ask her if she wanted to be my banu," he said. "So I get back, expecting her to have found someone, or at least have a list of what she's looking for in one, and she didn't even look," he said with a mix of amusement and disgruntlement.
He shook his head, a grin pulling at his lips. "So she gets no choice, now, she took too long. Besides, she could probably drive another pad daft with things like that," he added with a laugh.

Obadias couldn't hold back his smile at the male's story. Ah, that certainly sounded like his daughter. She never really seemed concerned about finding a Pad.
He was a little affronted at the 'has no choice' comment, but he realised it was merely a joke, and eyed the male more seriously. For a moment, he was silent, despite the jovial mood of the male before him.
Then he smiled. "Well, I would never hold back my daughter from what she wants. If she has consented to be your banu, then you have my blessing." He gave him a warning look. "But if I find out she is mistreated in anyway way..." Pride rules or not, Obadias would do something about it. Though it did not seem like this male would be one to harm her.

"Then I will ask for your assistance in dealing with the person foolish enough to do something to my banu," Behnam said. "Unless I feel I can deal with it on my own." Which was either him making a joke, or his thinking sooo differently from Obadias that he didn't even realize that the older male had insinuated that he might hurt his Scheherazade. But from the dangerous look on his face, it was clearly the second one.
"Thank you, Pad Obadias. I will do my best by her." He bowed his head as a sign of thanks. "And you have my assistance any time you might need it."

Obadias really wanted to correct the male about his attempted threat, but it didn't seem worth it. The male appeared unlikely to harm Scheherazade, and if he did, then Obadias really didn't need to have pre-warned him of the danger he would be in, so it didn't really matter. He just nodded instead.
"Thank you for your offer," he said, meaning it. What a well-tempered Pad. He gave the male a half-smile, and bowed his head in return. "If you, or my daughter, need assistance in any way, myself and my banu are always available. Welcome to the family, Pad Behnam."
