The Sunflare is the oldest herd of Fallen Stars in this world, founded by Lughnasadh, Regina, Sunniva, and their friends Istalindir and Ash. The five brought friends and family and families of their friends into the herd, growing the herd to massive proportions. With these growths, the sheer age of the herd in terms of the Great Starfall, and many other reasons, the herd has changed. Well, that's the proper history of the Sunflare Herd. The legend is distinctly different. In the Great Starfall, many Fell to this world. One of the Fallen was a sun, one worthy of eventually becoming an elder, a king of a mighty herd. The Fall prevented him from rising at that time, and his original herd Fell with him at varying times and places. The great Lords of the Sun, his herd, lost their memories, but were drawn by their love for their sun king to reform into the Sunflare Herd. They are together again, and will ever be so, until the ending of this world. This legend is not true, but legends are born from great events and figures who bring folk together. The Great Starfall is one of the greatest disasters of Dreamspace, and any herd leader Fallen to this world are certainly the type for legends to form around.

In the reforming of the Sunflare Herd due to its enormous size, necessary changes have occurred. One of these changes is to organization. The original Sunflare Herd was the size of a small family band. With several family groups and communities within the herd, the herd has been reorganized into clans. Of course, those who spin the legends have spun this event as each clan is descended from at least one of the mythical original Lords of the Sun. Each clan is comprised of a Righ and his Rhia, with a Princeling and/or a Lady as their heirs, as well as Stars of lesser rank. Each Righ and Rhia reports directly to the Ard-Righ and the Rhiannon, who rule the Sunflare. Righs and Rhias aren't herd leaders in rank, but act as councillors and advisers to the Ard-Righ and the Rhiannon. If the herd needs to decide an important issue worthy of debate, each Righ and Rhia gets a vote, as well as the Ard-Righ and the Rhiannon. In addition, the Righs and the Rhias are expected to rule their clan in the name of the Ard-Righ and the Rhiannon. A Righ and Rhia may come from any rank and hold an additional rank to Righ and Rhia. The Royal SunThis is Lughnasadh and Regina's clan. It is entirely comprised of them and their descendants. Members of the Royal Sun may join other clans or leave the herd to form relationships with other herds, securing peace for the Clans of the Sun. As a result, the members of the Royal Sun are often held to higher standards than other Stars. There are no special rites within the clan, due to being very busy with the rest of the herd, and the clan does not do Fosterlings. Symbol: Crowned sun Entry Requirement: Lifemating a member, being adopted by a member, or being born into the family. Ard-Righ and Rhiannon: Lughnasadh and Regina High Prince and High Princess: Jadon and Sunniva The Burning SunThis is a clan primarily for champions. They have a firm code of honor (largely chivalrous, but minus the sexism) and aren't too heavy on the artistic sensibilities. One of their unifying traits is their hatred of Moloch and his Shadow Herd, the sworn enemies of the Sunflare Herd. The Burning Sun has a requirement that all members be able to defend themselves, and is willing to give additional training if necessary. The Burning Sun does participate in fostering. Symbol: Flaming sun Entry Requirement: This is a fightin' clan, so if you aren't ready to fight, you might want to consider a different clan. They are looking for a druid (they've already found their bards--Garmionnt as an epic bard and Llewelyn as a battle bard). Righ and Rhia: Sepaia is the Rhia, there is no Righ yet Princeling and Lady: Llew is the Princeling, there is no Lady yet The Beautiful SunThe clan of the Beautiful Sun specializes in the arts. It is where stars have their talents of bard or artisan nourished and developed. They provide the art to the whole herd. The Beautiful Sun stars provide songs, jewelry, accessories, and other painted items. Symbol: Celtic sunflower Entry Requirement: Bard or artisan status, or a desire to become either position Righ and Rhia: Lylith is the Rhia, there is no Righ Princeling and Lady: Osumare is the Lady, there is no Princeling Other clans to come.

The Sunflare Herd is not an extremely traditional herd at present, but it has a few traditions. The SunriseWhen a foal is born, the Ard-Righ, Rhiannon, clan Righ and Rhia, any clan druids and bards, and the family of the foal gather with the foal the first dawn after its birth to name it and welcome it. The NoonWhen an adolescent reaches adulthood, the everyone present at the foal's naming and the foal's clan gather to celebrate the Star's receiving of its adult rank. This is also a ceremony for new members receiving their official rank. The EclipseWhen two Stars fall so deeply in love that they choose to lifemate, the clan has a celebration for them presided over by the clan druids. The SunsetWhen a Star feels it has lived out its life or wants to leave the herd, everyone present at the Star's Noon come together for a final farewell in the Star's honor at sunset. The MidnightAfter a Star dies, a party is held in the dead Star's honor, to remember their lives and support the family and clan who has lost a member. Everyone in the clan, the Ard-Righ, and the Rhiannon are always invited, and others close to the dead Star are usually invited. Some clans allow fostering or require a training phase between Sunrise and Noon. It is as follows, but varies from clan to clan. The JourneyThis is an event incorporating only the Righs and Rhias involved and any and all parents/foster parents/trainers. The Ard-Righ and the Rhiannon may be invited or not, it's entirely up to the clan. Of the rites listed above, all are treated as parties, especially the Midnight, for good reason. Some Stars believe that dying here means being reborn in Dreamspace, though not all do. Those who believe in reincarnation usually believe that dying in Dreamspace means being reborn here, and it's more important where you die. Not all do. There are a few celebrations each year celebrated by the entire herd. Localized clan holidays also occur at varying intervals. SamhainnThis is the festival of the dead, the remembrance day of the Great Starfall, and New Years rolled into one exciting party lasting three days, October 31st through November 2nd. ImbolcThis is the festival of foals, not one of the biggest of the four herd holidays, but it is still pretty fun, filled with lots of games for the foals, held on February 1st. BeltaneThis is the festival of flowers and love, one of the bigger festivals of the year, filled with lots of stories, romance, flowers, and getting away with a lot of pranks and romantic escapades. It usually has the foals gagging and the adolescents giggling, as well as the grandparents and older Stars sniggering and telling very dirty stories. Held on May 1st. LughnasadhThis is the festival of the warriors, and a time for clans to move, if they want to find different pastures. It's low-key, like Imbolc, and tends to be more of an athletic competition than anything else, held August 1st.

Given the social nature of the Stars, this is a fairly big thing, even more so in a herd the size of the Sunflare Herd. Except for Ard-Righ, Rhiannon, High Prince, High Princess, Righs, Rhias, Princelings, and Ladies, an infinite number is allowed. There are as many Righs, Rhias, Princelings, and Ladies as there are clans, at the maximum. There is only ever one Ard-Righ, Rhiannon, High Prince, and High Princess at any given time. Here's roughly how it runs: Ard-Righ and Rhiannon: High RPThey are the Sunflare Herd leaders, the high king and queen with a family clan to their name. They make all the major decisions in the herd and mediate disputes between clans. They come into this role from having been the High Prince and the High Princess. High Prince and High Princess: High to Moderate RPThey are the heirs of the Ard-Righ and the Rhiannon, helping the current Ard-Righ and Rhiannon and learning how to lead the herd. One of the two must have been born to either the Ard-Righ, the Rhiannon, or both, and the decision must be agreed to by both the Ard-Righ and the Rhiannon. The Ard-Righ and the Rhiannon are the only ones who qualify for herd leader status. Princes and Princesses: Low RPThese are descendants of the Ard-Righ and Rhiannon, including the descendants of the High Prince and High Princess. They hold other ranks in the herd and their respective clan, but hold no special obligations as princes and princesses. Being of this rank requires being born to the lineage or being lifemated to one in the lineage. Righs and Rhias: High to Moderate RPThey are the leaders of each clan, as well as the advisers and councillors to the Ard-Righ and the Rhiannon. They may come from any occupation within the herd, but they are usually the Princeling and the Lady of their clan beforehand. Princelings and Ladies: Moderate RPThey are the heirs to the Righs and the Rhias. They work much like the High Prince and High Princess, but they also hold down normal occupations. Druids: Moderate RPThey are the teachers and storytellers of the clan, and sometimes act as priests. They serve as nannies as well, keeping an eye on the foals of their clan, though they keep an eye out for any foal in the herd. Druids also act as judges for their clan, mediating disputes. Druids who ONLY act as judges are also called brithims. Bards: Low RPThey are the singers and storytellers of the clan, though they tend to tell the official stories of the clan and the herd. Druids tell a few myths, but usually they have other priorities, whereas bards specialize in storytelling. Druids who ONLY tell stories are also called shanachies. Bards also act as messengers, when necessary. Artisans: Low RPThey make art and jewelry the clan may need, as well as a lot of other goods, sometimes including armor. Champions: Low RPThey are the warriors of the clan and the herd, acting as border patrols, defenders, and any combative capacity. Some act as scouts, but these are usually little bunny rabbits of champions. They can be teased, but they have to be clever, sneaky, alert AND good fighters. Fosterlings: Low RPThis is a rank that occurs only in some clans. They are adolescents or new herd members who are training in another clan until adulthood, or the clan they will be joining once they are officially a member of the herd. Bairns: Low RPThese are the foals and non-Fosterling adolescents of the herd and the clans. They're young, usually underfoot, usually have a zillion questions, and are always watched by parents and druids. Nans and Granddas: Low RPThese are the elderly Stars of the herd and clans, usually too old to do their official occupation. It's not uncommon for fosterlings, bairns, and druids to be saddled with watching over the crotchety nans and granddas.
