"Hello!" Amani called at the door of her eldest son's den. She had sneaked in a few times, cleaning it up and preparing it for when he came back, she hoped it was appealing to his first banu. Of course, she had waited for him to swing by before inviting herself over for a little girl talk. She hadn't had to wait long. The first thing he did after bringing his new mate here was beg her to explain things to her. "My name is Amani, Beybanu of Nywele, and Behnam's mother. May I come in? I would love to chat!"

Everything seemed to have changed in the blink of an eye for the gray lioness. It was as if one second she was a romping free ranging rogue, just going where ever her heart pleased, and the next she was now within a pride and following the words of a lion she had only met a few days ago. She didn't know what life was trying to do with her, she was a tad scared and confused, and yet in a strange way also happy and excited. Her train of through breaking, Fara whirled around stared at the lioness standing at the mouth of a cave. Behnam's mother? She did remember the male mentioning something about a talk, but that was about it. "Oh, yes! Please come in. It is a pleasure to meet you Amani. My name is Faraji'Kai, but you are welcome to call me Fara if you would like." Though Fara sounded calm and welcoming, her heart was beating at a million miles a minute. To not only meet a stranger, but to have the stranger be the mother of someone she knew, it was a tad nerve wracking, but at least Amani seemed nice unlike the stories she had heard of some mothers being mean towards females their sons brought around.

Amani went in, smiling at the female. "Oh, you're lovely!" she said happily. "Of course I knew you would be, my son has excellent tastes. Do you like the den? I kept sneaking in to make it comfortable, but don't tell Behnam, he likes to think he's doing this all on his own," she said conspiratorially.
"You're probably wondering what this is all about," she went on, turning more serious. "This is the Ukuucha'Wafalme Pride," she started out. "And you're now a banu. My son's mate."

Slowly, but surely, Fara could feel herself start to relax around Amani. After all, she did appear genuinely nice and welcoming towards her, and she was taking the time to teach her about this new pride. However, as Far opened her mouth to answer the other lioness' question she could feel all that ease tighten back up.
Mate? Did she really just say mate?
Thinking back the lioness didn't remember the word "mate" being in the deal. She just said she would come along with him to his pride. In a way though, it did add up. After all, Behnam did say he was on this mate searching journey and needed to bring a mate back with him, but then again he said we wanted someone he truly loved...
Shaking her head, Fara let the thoughts go, for now anyway.
"Heh, mate you say? And..,what exactly does that entail, if you don't mind me asking? Your son had told me he was on a search for a mate, but we never got beyond that."

"Oh dear," Amani said, her purples eyes narrowing slightly. "That boy of mine," she said, complaining. "He didn't explain anything to you, did he? Honey, this is a harem pride. The males are called Pads, they take in females as banu--mates, and guard them and the cubs while the lionesses do the hunting and take care of the... smaller things."
"But," she went on, "if you haven't agreed to being his mate yet, I'm sure he'll do his best to woo you properly, as he should. If he doesn't, just come to me or his father and we'll make sure he does! He's a good boy, he really is, but he's a bit... assuming," she admitted. "As long as you treat everyone politely, you'll do just fine!"
She seemed to assume this female was polite by nature.

The information was simple. The words and concepts were simple. Putting the pieces together it didn't take someone so wise to figure out what had been done and what she had gotten herself in to by accepting the bet. But why, why did it feel like it was all too much to really handle, like a mountain had fallen on her. Maybe it was just the plan fact that her life had changed in the blink of an eye and now she found herself entering a new way of life with new figures and a technical family.
"Well no, I.." she paused as she gave a light chuckle. "I don't suppose he told you this, but uh, he sort of "won me over" with a bet of sorts. I had agreed to help him hunt since I saw he was having trouble on his own, and the deal was if he could take down the target I chose for him, then I would return with him. I just didn't figure by "return" it meant that I would return as his mate."
She turned her gaze back to the older lioness as she gave a nod. "Oh no, I have no doubts about your son. From my time with him he has always been kind and sweet towards me, so I can see you have raised him well! I am surprised by all of this, but I don't really hold any ill will towards him as far as I can tell. I'm sure things will work out for the best."

"Oh, good!" Amani said happily. "And you will find this life a lot easier than that of a rogue. I had a jaunt in the rogue lands myself, a while back. It is difficult," she said. "And often lonely, don't you think? In the pride there are always others to hunt with, to talk with, to help you raise your cubs, as well. It's a very sharing, comfortable place to be," she said.
"But I want you to be comfortable here, especially. You're my prospective daughter-in-law, after all." She gave the girl a gentle smile. "My Behnam, he is a bit like his father, I'll admit. He's very easy to love, but not so easy to know what to do with."

Fara's returned the female's smile as her ears fell a tad. "Yes, it really is a harsh and lonely life full of worry. You never know if those you run in to will be kind or harsh towards you. You are never guaranteed a meal or a safe place to sleep. And, well, you are forever traveling. It was especially hard for myself since I was not born in to the life of a rogue."
Her smile grew as she ran through the faint memories of her family. She could swear she could still feel the warmth of protection of her father's embrace and the gentle words of her mother.
"When I was a cub I once had a family, but then....I guess the Gods above felt it was time for them to leave this world, but not me. I still don't understand it, but then again life isn't something that can really be understood. I guess maybe that is why I ran in to your son, so I could have a second chance at a potential family."
Shifting lightly, Fara couldn't help but let a look of worry wash over her face. "Do you really believe someone like myself could fit in to this pride, and that things will work out between your son and I?"

"Oh, honey," Amani said softly. "You might be speaking true when you say the gods were looking out for you. You see, Behnam's father is the god of manes." She smiled. "Even when Behnam brings in other banu, I have no doubt that he will be devoted to you." She paused, trying to put this delicately.
"You see, some pads think of their mates as... tools, lesser beings to correct when they are wrong. But Behnam, I didn't raise him to be like that. He is... he is very much his father's son." A little smile pulled on her lips. "Nywele spoils the three of us shamelessly, almost too much, actually. I keep trying to tell him that jewelry is a problem when hunting."
