 Chimera was nearly trembling with excitement.
He had awoken early that morning, earlier even than his father (who always rose before the sun), and he had been pacing the better part of the morning, waiting for Achilles to come fetch him.
He really should be playing things cool, he thought. He didn't want somebody to catch him and ask what he was doing and get him in trouble and bring an end to all this too soon! But, at the same time...he really couldn't keep himself still.
He paused, sniffed around, paced some more, then stopped again. When would Achilles get here? He wanted to get started NOW!

 Achilles was not surprised when he came to the area that he found Chimera eagerly pacing - pacing he hoped in anticipation of the training he planned to bestow upon him. Training that he hoped would help him someday.
He had long ago scouted out the perfect training ground it was a bit of a walk but the distance ensured that one of the sisters was unlikely to to simply wander by and find them, he had already shown Patroclus the spot and directed the boy to meet him there, Chimera however he'd have to collect and bring himself - at least until the pup learned his own way. "Are you ready to go?" He asked the pup though his eyes glanced about for any sign of a sister - none of them predictably..seemed to be paying much attention to them.

 Having spent the night at his fathers den Patroclus rose when Achilles did. Though he did not follow his father, for Achilles was going to fetch Chimera for their training today. This allowed Patroclus to travel to the designated training area ahead of his opponent. He had already been here once or twice, the first time when his father had shown him the area and how to get here. Now he took his time alone to study the small clearing well, knowing your surroundings was important and he wanted to know every inch of this place before Chimera arrived.

Chimera nearly leapt in the area when Achilles came for him. His tail gave an excited wag and he glanced over his shoulder, a little embarrassedly. Satisfied that he was alone with the male, he bounded over, haunches wriggling, purple eyes gleaming. "Yes!" He said, with a big grin.
Should he be a bit more calm and demure? Maybe...but he just couldn't help himself!

Achilles was amused by the pups exuberant nature and chuckled slightly before turning about to lead him off through the woods. "Come along then before someone decides to question us" He told Chimera before picking up an easy jogging pace. Patroclus should already have made it to the training ground by now and the jog would serve as both a decent warm up for Chimera and a way to get them to the training ground in decent time.
It was a decent ways but Achilles remained silent during the trip, the only indication that he knew Chimera was still following him was one ear tilted backwards to keep track of his companion. Upon entering the clearing he found his son studying the area "Patroclus" He greeted "I'm sure you know Chimera?" He asked in introduction. "You will be training together"

Patroclus turned when he heard the approach of his father and then let his eyes fall upon Chimera. He flashed the pup a friendly smile. "Yes, I know him." Chimera wasn't that much younger than himself and while the multi-colored pup was a bit smaller than him it wasn't by much. It was good to know that another male within the pack would benefit from his fathers training. "I look forward to training together." And it was the truth, he had done a bit with his father but having an opponent and companion that was closer to his own size would allow for a better training experience and perhaps it would develop a friendship between him and Chimera. He needed more friends after all, oh sure he had his siblings but since they were all getting older now they could spend less time with him as they needed to devote more time to their training.

Chimera's tail wagged a little. "Me too!" He said, hurriedly, practically stumbling over his words. He gave Patroclus an appraising look. So, this was the wolf he was going to learn to fight against. Well...he could think of no better male opponent, anyway. What else was he going to do, try to wrestle Nightshade? Hardly.
Still, as he squared off against Patroclus, sizing him up, he wasn't thinking of potential friendships to be made or fun to be had. He was thinking of winning -- and not just here, in this lesson, but against Isobel. That was his driving motivation just then. To be better than his sister at something.
"How do we start?"

Achilles appraised the two young wolves before him while they greeted one another and looked each other over. Chimera seemed eager..but that was to be expected this being his first lesson and all, Patroclus by this point in time was practically an old hand at this sort of thing - though now that he had a proper partner Achilles expected the pace of training to pick up significantly. A group would have been better...it was how they had trained in his home pack, but in the absence of that he supposed a pair would have to do.
"As this is Chimera's first day then we shall simply appraise what he knows already and how you two work together" He told the two males "Patroclus you will take a defensive position...Chimera you are to attack...and remember boys this is just practice..not mortal combat quite yet - please refrain from giving each other wounds that will hinder further training"

Patroclus waited as his father gave the instructions. It would take a little bit of time for Chimera to catch up but that was fine. More practice would bring not only himself but Chimera that much closer to full training. Training that would one day help him in his future, a future that was following in his fathers footprints. "Don't worry father, there will be no unnecessary injuries today." If he wanted to continue having a sparring partner then they would both need to be careful until they were both familiar with each others strength, size and learned the paces.
Stepping into place Patroclus turned to face Chimera and took a defensive pose. His eyes ticked to his father for a moment, to indicate to him that he was ready to begin and then returned his gaze to Chimera. Giving the pup a nod he waited. Father may have a final instruction, if not he was ready for Chimera's move.

Chimera hesitated a moment, waiting for Achilles to say something more, but when he didn't he tensed his muscles and examined his opponent. Chimera had kind of hoped for some more specific advice onto what he was supposed to be doing. He didn't know the first thing about fighting, except for what he instinctively did in his playfights, and even then his siblings rarely played with him these days.
He thought back to when he could freely wrestle with Isobel, before her own training had kept her too busy and separated from the family, and dredged up a general plan of attack. He bounded forward with perhaps too much childish zeal and leapt for Patroclus, paws extended, nipping at the scruff of his neck.
