"How many times do I have to say it? I'm sorry!" Safi laughed as she walked through the tall grass, just outside a strand of trees and a small sliver of running water. Above the yellow lioness flew a yellow bird and the pair of them were arguing amicably. Mostly about a particular handsome male she'd met a few days ago...
"You never think of my feelings." Mwimbaji sniffed, fluttering around her head. "I had to sit and preen my feathers for HOURS while you were... pleasantly occupied." He gave a long suffering sigh, falling down to land on her back and walk his way up and down her spine.
"I already said I was sorry for that. He was just so... dashing! And he had a wonderful sense of humor. I couldn't help it... I haven't been around that many lovely lions lately." She chuckled, glancing over her shoulder at him.

Neeja pried ope one ruby eye as se say the lioness walking near her tree. The voices had woken her from a deep sleep, but rather than grumble or b***h about it, the blue and white leopardess just chuckled and streched. "Sounds like you had a wonderful date there friend."
She offered a winning smile as she laid her head on her front paws, not yet leaping down as many lions didn't take kindly to being caught unawares espically by a 'lesser' cat.

The bright yellow lioness started as a voice came from above her that wasn't from her companion muse. She paused in her stroll to look up, searching the trees for the speaker.
"Oh, um.... yes. He was very lovely." She said, breaking into a smile as she saw the leopard up in the tree. It was always prudent to be kind to a muse when you met one that could talk. Especially if it could talk, actually. After all, she wouldn't care to have someone mistreat her muse just because the little bird wasn't a lion. "My name is Safi'kidege, by the way, Lady. Can I ask your name? I haven't see anyone lately but my own companion. Its nice to speak with someone else... even as lovely as my muse is." She said quickly, feeling the p***k of tiny bird claws along her spine. The bird chirped as he settled on her back, settling to preening his feathers while the ladies talked.

Neeja laughed softly, seeing that she was no threat and rolled off the branch. Twisting around so that she would land on all four feet before the lioness, she stood up streching. "I am Neeja sweet child." The leopardess was a little on the stocky side and rather older, but she still moved with a sure, grace.

Bright pink eyes watched the leopard roll from the branch and land gracefully with envy and appreciation. Safi had never been good at acrobatics and the like... anyone who did was worthy of envy in that regard.
"Its a pleasure to meet you!" The lioness said as she approached the new female, her tail happily swishing behind her. "Do you live around her, Neeja? You look quite comfortable here. I'm just traveling through, gathering stories to take home with me."
Coming within a respectful distance, she gathered her hind end under her and settled into the grass, looking forward to at least a short time of pleasant conversation.

"I too am traveling. " She chuckled softly as she watched the lioness approuch before settling down. "I have lived far too long in one place and decided I wanted to see more of the savanah before I pass from this world to the nest." Her ears perked towards her new found friend as the meantion of stories. "And what sort of stories to you seek?"

Safi tilted her head as she thought about the question and about what it would be like to spend your whole life in one place before giving it all up to wander... instead of the other way around, like she had. Weren't creatures prone to... settling down when they got older? At least, she thought so. But maybe it wasn't the same for everyone, like so many other things.
"I seek all kinds of stories, really... Its my contribution to the pride. I'm not great with cubs and I'm only so so at hunting... I'm also such a wanderer at heart that its hard to stay in one place all the time. So I seek out stories to share. As long as its enjoyable, to teaches a lesson... then I guess I seek it." She smiled and chuckled softly, shrugging her shoulders loosely. "Mostly I make them up from my adventures when I travel, but I do like to swap them with those I meet. It keeps things interesting, since a lot of my traveling involves... traveling."

That little quip earned her a lazy chuckle "touche...Well I am afraid I am not very good with stories. Too practical my mother always use to tell me. My sister was a dreamer and a thinker, me? I like things that make sense and are easy to understand."

A chuckle spilled from the yellow lioness and she smiled brightly.
"There are stories that are easy to understand and stories about practical things. Some people are interested in stories about life in other prides, in other parts of the world. Some, mostly cubs, like wild and fantastic tales... things they can day dream about and retell each other. I haven't traveled as far as I'd like to, but then... I do like staying close to my pride's lands. Its where my... family is. My cubs. Even if I'm not much of a mother, I do like to see them occasionally." She shuffled a paw sheepishly in the dirt, rustling the grass. Changing the subject, she lifted her head and smiled, her ears perking forward. "Have you seen anything interesting in your travels, Neeja? Anything beyond the normal? I confess, I like to hear about creatures others meet on their travels."
On her back Mwimbaji finished his preening and fluttered to the ground, scratching at the dirt before pecking up delicious grass seeds. "She's a romantic." He chirped, laughter in his voice. "She loves love stories."

Neeja smiled at the little bird," There is nothing wrong with romance little one. It makes life worth living." She sighed thinking, "Have I seen anything interesting...I have seen many things in my life child. Some more believable than others. " Scratching lazily at her ear, she pondered, " I have seen prides where males belonged as slaves to their females. I have seen prides where males owned harems who cater to their every whim. A band of sisters where no men are welcome, and brotherhoods that live for battle."

Safi blinked at the leopardess as she spoke, trying to picture the prides she spoke of. Some were harder than others, but all teased at her imagination.
"I've heard of some of those prides... its hard to imagine how strange some of them are. But to each their own, right? I'm glad to live in the pride I joined and glad for their easy going ways... I wanted my cubs to grow to their potential, not held back by gender or color." She laughed softly, shaking her bright head. "Ranging from rich browns to bright gold and pink, it would have been hard to fit into any pride that placed great importance on color. And I just can't see placing one cub over another just because one was female and one was male."
The yellow lioness sighed as she glanced up, watching the clouds float across the sky. "Sometimes though, I wish I had chosen a pride with more available males." She chuckled, giving the leopard a grin. "Most are too young or already taken, and I'm forced to find companionship elsewhere."
"Which is what happened when you heard us talking before." Mwimbaji chirped, teasing his companion who gave him a coy look.
"Handsome as you are, you aren't a lion my dearest." She purred.

Neeja laughed shaking her head in amusement, " oh I can tell the little one has no lady luck of his own. One day a lady will get your wins aflutter little friend. All make a fool of themselves for loves sake." She got a playful glint in her eye, "I was known to turn a few heads in my day."

Mwimbaji fluffed himself up indignantly, flaring his wings as he bounced on the ground.
"I have no trouble in the lady department! I am a suave, smooth male with a lovely singing voice... all the females swoon to hear me sing and I have left a trail of hearts behind me." He struck a gallant pose, the effect slightly diminished as he was small enough to fit under Safi's paw.
Safi herself chuckled as she hid her mouth with a paw and whispered to the leopardess. "He's just a little jealous of my attention, that's all. A muse is as close as a lover, at times." She said before she chuckled, shaking her head. "We're inseparable though, and I would wish it no other way, truly. I don't know what life was like, before I found my muse."

Neeja winked at her quickly before the little bird could see before nodding solem, " So I see, forgive me little one. I meant not disrespect. It must be nice to have someone as a faithful companion that weathers the trials of life by yourside." She looked a little wistful but her smile was still sweet and kind.

Safi giggled softly as her muse smoothed his feathers and fluttered up to land on her shoulder again, preening her fur this time.
"It is nice... Its something I never knew I missed before I found it. But enough about us!" She laughed. "I'm sure we've kept you for long enough. We don't really have any where to be, but I'm sure its not the same for you. I'd stay to tell you more stories, but I don't want to keep you if you wish to go." The bright lioness smiles as she rose, shaking herself to dislodge dirt and grass from her fur. It had been a pleasure to speak with the leopardess, but all travelers must move on at some point... that was the whole point.
"I hope we meet you again, Neeja. Maybe we'll have some new stories to share with each other."
