Aurello groaned.

Another day, another dull trudge through a neverending landscape of trees. And rocks. And more trees. It was really quite dull to see the same thing day after day. But, the past few days he noticed that the trees were changing. Different species grew here than where he was from, and there were fewer of them. The plants seemed tougher and more resilient to the rockier landscape. Even the very earth seemed different. While the ground from his homeland tended to be moist and clumped together, this stuff was soft and sandy. It made walking more wearisome, sometimes.

This is what he wanted, wasn't it? To travel the world and to see new things? Aurello kind of wondered if it was worth it. At least he was doing all right. He was well-fed from small game and fitter than he'd ever been back at home. And the girls he'd run into weren't so bad, either...

He grinned to himself, looking this way and that. A tangy, salty smell filled the air around him, so he turned to the left, following the strengthening scent. Suddenly, the trees and rocks ended, and he found himself walking on a great expanse of sand. Ahead of him was the largest body of water that he had ever seen. Was that where the smell was coming from? It was low tide, so he padded through small puddles full of odd creatures. He kept going until he met the edge of the water, and watched it lap at the shore for a while.

What was this place?

User Image His ears were sharp points as one brown eye and one blue locked on the shape of an unfamiliar wolf in the distance. Eva was inside the den Nursing the pups, leaving him the lone alpha to report to all day. Not to mention leaving him feeling antsy, he was a newly made father, or well a Real blood bound father.

His nerves on edge he went to the peak of the sunning rock, its farthest hanging point reaching over the low tides waters nicely. He wagged his tail some though he growled low to show his brother who had been relaxing with him that he would handle what ever this wolf wanted. Curious eye's watched this young wolf as it approached the ocean's edge, almost like it had never seen such beauty. His tail stopped wagging as he watched the swells off in the distance. The tide was about to start coming in... those waves would be the first in a heavy set of eight to start that chain reaction. His entire life having been spent on this shoreline he knew exactly how the water worked.

His gaze went back to the young male, who seemed to be just standing there... smaller waves lapping at the younger wolf's paws. He had no clue...Wall-e was already heading down the sunning rocks path as fast he could, though the other wolf was at least a mile away. He hopped he'd get there in time... he didn't pause a beat as several pack members whinned at his quick departure, but none of them left to follow, understanding that the pups and alpha mother was more important to guard.
They just watched as he left tracks in the sand that flaired up behind him.

The waves lapping at his paws definitely carried the salty smell. He lowered his head and took a lick. Yuck! What awful tasting water. He made a face and licked the air, trying to rid his mouth of the taste. Oh well, he knew now not to drink this particular water...

He peered into the distance. Was that wave bigger than the others? He squinted against the sun's glare. Maybe... The young wolf couldn't really tell. Suddenly, he looked down. The water level was higher than before, wasn't it? He stared at his paws in puzzlement, then looked back into the distance. There was a lot of water out there... But just how much? He found himself striding forward, until his chest hit the water and he was paddling. Every body of water had to have an opposite shore, just like the lakes back home.

Aurello was by no means a strong swimmer, so he floundered a little. For the first time, he felt concerned. There was even MORE water out here than he thought. But he swam on, thinking, just keep swimming, just keep swimming....

Wall-e had his ears back hard as he ran as fast as his paws could manage. His strides were long as he watched the younger male begin to swim directly out into the ocean. 'What, on the green earth is he doing?' The alpha thought in shock as the tan wolf headed directly for the oncoming waves. Tide changing waves, huge things that dragged their victims under and drowned them, if not handing them to the undercurrents whom would yank them so far out that they'd never make it back to shore.

He let out a warning yip. High and strong as his paws touched water and he headed hard into the waves, to say that was an easy task when segments were four to five waves at a time, was a lie. But Wall-e was built strong, and he had grown up in this watery play ground, he knew how to navigate the fastest rout and soon he was swimming solidly after the ignorant young wolf. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" He yelled out, doing his best not to let water get into his mouth. He really hoped he could reach this pup before he killed himself.

Aurello paddled away, oblivious to the danger he was about to face. Already, his strokes had less effort behind them, as the water started carrying him away... Then, a wave came up and soaked Aurello, submerging him briefly. A few, terrifying seconds passed before he broke the surface again, sputtering. This water... wasn't safe! Panic shot through him. Swimming out here was not a good idea after all, and now, as he tried to pull himself back towards shore, he felt something tugging him back.

Then, he heard someone yip. Blinking saltwater from his eyes, Aurello looked desperately around for the source of the sound. Enough time passed that he began to think he had imagined it when he heard Wall-e's shout! There, swimming towards him, was a much larger wolf than himself. Relief briefly whooshed through him and he managed to catch a good breath. Feeling invigorated by the prospect of being saved, the inexperienced wolf fought to get closer.

"H-HELP!"

Wall-e pushed with everything in him to swim faster. when the young wolf's head went under he almost dived down himself. The Adolescent's cry was music to his ears as he used his powerful legs to swim over waves instead of being yanked under. He felt the currents pull him closer to the young wolf with a sense of unease. 'This is not going to be fun...' he thought grudgingly to himself as he allowed the water to pull him over to the tan wolf. "Get on my back Pup. I'll get us to shore." he said gruffly as some water managed its way into his mouth, nasty that salt water!

Aurello suspected that he would have drowned by now if he hadn't been fit from his long travel. Still, his muscles were beginning to feel the strain, and a dull ache started up his leg and pierced his shoulder. He grimaced and pushed himself as hard as he could, raising his head to keep his nose and mouth out of the water as best as he could.

He approached Wall-e with a bit of hesitation. Why was this stranger helping him? He could remember warnings from his family. Strangers were nasty, evil, and always meant harm... Aurello could vividly remember the fear on his parents' faces when he expressed his wish to leave the packlands. But was that really true? Wall-e was risking a lot coming out after him, so why would he harm Aurello?

"Okay," he said, before taking in a mouthful of water. He spit it out and clambered clumsily onto Wall-e's back, his legs shaking a little as he clung desperately to the larger wolf.
