Like the title suggests. Baltimore is known for its realtively high crime/homicide/violent crime/etc. level, and if you leave yourself vulnerable, you can get yourself seriously screwed. There are other, miscellaneous problems, too, like "Where's a good, cheap restaurant?" That kind of stuff. I'll get this niiiice and organized in a minute.

A restaurant guide to delicious, possibly cheap, and pretty convenient eats in and very close to good ol' Baltimore. For the moment, I'm just going to list the names I can think off of the back of my head and give the details later. Feel free to post/PM others!

Yeah, I always eat at the food court. A nice selection, a lot of it is cheap... the downside is that it gets PACKED at peak mealtimes.

Learn a lesson from my friend: Sleeping on park benches is okay, as long as anybody who looks at you gets the impression that they'll have their heads ripped off just for looking at you funny.

Not just homicides... suicides. o_o my first year there in '03 there was a guy that jumped off the roof of this building closer to the minimall. >> we were standing right on the sidewalk when it happened. .>>.. people took pictures of it.

I find it really usefull to have a lists of places not to go or things not to do in Baltimore. ^_^
Like for place to not go to eat is ESPNzone. It's expensive & from the times I've been there before, you need ID to get in, and someone over 21... but then again, I've only gone there during nightime. & the Hard Rock Cafe is always packed.
And pretty much a basic rule is to avoid loitering in any dark places during nightime.
For transportation- there's the lightrail that runs throughout B-more that sells cheap day passes. I only take it from Cromwell to Camden, so I can't guarantee exactly how much of B-more it goes to, but I know it goes to the BCC.

"Greatest city in America", ri-ight. Sure we are. Not. Aaanyway, this is a great idea, letting people know what not to do so we don't end up with "Fifteen year old Otakon attendee murdered by crazed homeless man-details at eleven!" all over the TV. (I kid, I kid, it'd be far more likely to be a crazed baseball fan, especially if the Red Sox or Yankees are in town.) There are a number of decent, fairly cheap places to eat in the pavillions at the Inner Harbor (Easy Wok, Johnny Rocket's, Thai Noodles, etc.), so I'd recommend sticking with them rather than straying too far from the convention center. Uhm, advice for keeping safe...well, it isn't a good idea to hang around after it gets dark, obviously, and you don't want to be walking around in a skimpy costume (especially if female) without having at least one other person with you. I don't reccommend sleeping on park benches, no matter how intimidating you look. Besides, you'd be taking away beds from the REAL homeless people. (lame attempt at a joke.) Oh, and if you hear/see gunfire, take cover behind the nearest wall/car/person who looks like they might be able to stop/slow a bullet. As for transportation, there are buses, the light rail, and the metro, depending on where you happen to be coming from/going to. How about a link to the MTA's website? It might be helful to people visiting the city and wanting to know how to get around. http://www.mtamaryland.com/(Here, if you fell like adding it.)

Ah, yes. What to do, and not to do in Baltimore.
I have lived in Baltimore all 13 years of my life, and I know what you shouldn't do. If you need something that wasn't said here, feel free to PM me!
exclaim If you see a homless guy sleeping, don't poke them. Please, you might get hurt. **I don't know from experience.
arrow arrow Don't go around dissing tourists. It will only piss them off.
exclaim I totally agree with the "Don't walk around the harbor at night in a skimpy costume especially if female." thing. We don't wanna get raped, now do we, girls?
exclaim It will be packed. Even the cheap and yummy restaurants. Sad, isn't it? If you are near Fells Point, I recommend you go to "Jimmy's" reastaurant. I have gone there many many times, and I still love it. There is also a place where you can get really good soft preztels down the street from there, and I don't know the name....
arrow arrow DO. NOT. SLEEP. ON. BENCHES. It's not a good idea to this ANYWHERE in the U.S. COMMON SENSE, PEOPLE. You will most likely be victim to severe annoyance and criticism.
exclaim Some transportation for if you are sight-seeing, is that you could take a water-taxi. It's about $4- $8.
exclaim Stay away from people who look suspicious, unless they are cosplaying. Well, if they are, it might just be the costume. Still, be careful no matter what.
exclaim Bring a jacket in a bag if you are going to walk around the harbor if it gets late. It gets CHILLY.
I will add more later! :3
