Working for the good of the pride was always an admirable thing; it garnered praise and approval and reassurance that her action were noticed. Elpis was more than content that her training was going well, but even the kind words of her own mother and father did little to help her feel really good about it. What good was there in working hard to be good so you could rejoin your muse if that muse never was around? Most lions inthe Kizingo had the luck to have something stationary or common or both as a muse. Not her. Her muse was that sly, agile, cunning spirit that was the leopard. And there were none in the area she could look to for guidance. Still she kept on. The praise of her fellow fallen muses was kind, but it meant less and less to her. Dwelling on it upset her, and she suddenly lay down across the path through the pride with a huff. She wasn't too old not to pout yet...she'd get back to work when her muse was around to judge her!

Singing filtered through the trees, bright and unrestrained as the sunlight that streamed down on the Kizi lands. The creatures that sang at the tops of their voices seemed to have no care in the world and even less worry about what others might think about them. Who could care when they sang so sweetly, reveling in each other's prescence? They were lion and muse, after all!
It took a little bit before the pair appeared through the foliage, their song having preceded them by a bit. The ones who sang seemed to be a bright yellow lioness and an even brighter little bird that swooped and danced in the air above her, weaving in and out of the beams of light that fell through the branches of the trees. They were obviously a pair and just as obviously wrapped up in each other, almost unaware of their surroundings.
The song they sang was of the joy of travel and the many sights they claimed to have seen. If one knew the lioness, they'd have known that the silly songs she sang were her way of keeping track of the stories she brought back to the pride. With her ditzy, silly nature, little things like stories tended to be as ditzy and silly as she was... but her muse helped with that, making up songs to help them both remember what had happened and make it easier for others to listen to them without being confused.

Hmph. Someone sure was cheerful. Part of Elpis wanted to groan and slink off, but it wasn't healthy to be thinking such negative thoughts. She rolled to her feet and paused to listen. She knew that voice, of course. You didn't live in a pride with lions all your life and not know their voices. What'd that lion's name been now? Hmm. Well she was sure she'd remember it.
The more she listnened to the song, the better she realized she felt. That was good, it wasn't very muse-like to dwell and be so mopey. She forced a small smile to herself and sighed. The trees rustled over head and she shot them a look, as if to say 'you stay out of this!'
The longer she waited the louder the song got, and soon enough it was all too easy to spot the source. With fur that hue (never mind the cartwheeling avian of fantastical colors above her) she stuck out like a sore thumb. Not that most of the pride was any better off. On a whim she joined in the song, not with words, but with a tuneless sort of humming, nonsense syllables that just made a happy sound. She'd make herself enjoy this surprise, and it'd brighten her day right up!

Safi'kidege brought the up-beat song to a finish with a flourish of sound, breaking into giggles as her muse swooped down to perch on her back. The humming caught her ears and she perked up as she saw the pale figure in the path. Such a lovely, ghostly girl... and how sweet of her to join them in singing. Not everyone would be so blasé about it... Safi knew well that some lions and muses found her down right annoying with her flamboyant, flirty attitude. She just didn't much care what people like that thought, when there were so many others who didn't mind if she was who she was and even liked her for it. Almost endlessly cheerful, it was hard to ignore the up-lifting feeling she seemed to radiate. That, and she never seemed to have an unkind word for anyone and there was obvious love and devotion between her and her muse.
"Hello little sister!" She chirped, almost as bird-like as her muse.
"Good day!" that muse caroled from her back, peeking his head out from around the side of her neck.
"Were you looking for something, or out to meet someone? We've just gotten back from a little wandering and were working on a new song we came up with as we traveled. Hopefully its not too hard to listen to and the story is interesting... nothing is worse than a boring story!" The bright lioness laughed as she came to a stop near the younger female, their coats quite a contrast of color and lack of it.

Eplis' tail twitched as she watched the older lioness laughing. She really was a happy sight. Most of the lions in the pride were happy, but usually not THIS happy. She suspected the bird on her back was her muse. That'd make sense. She knew she'd be happy if she had her muse along with her to sing and...well do whatever it was leopards did. Even if there wasn't a leopard around, if she just knew what they did, she could probably smile like that.
She did manage a little grin though. It was hard not to, the smiling was contagious! "Hello big sister!" Of course the lioness wasn't her sister, but that was okay. They were like a big family in the pride. "And hello little muse!" She especially liked the bird. Who wouldn't love a muse? It wasn't hers, but it was still a muse, and a good, pure little spirit.
"Not looking for anything really, just looking. I was hoping my muse'd be around, but I don't think it lives near the pride. I looked every day for a long time and only saw it once, and that's when I knew it was my muse, but I've not since. I want to learn to be like it and be better but it's hard when it's not around!" She voiced her concerns to the lady, completely unabashed. No one had anything to fear in this pride, so why hold back?
