For once, Ren had chosen to fly.
He did not particularly enjoy flying, at least not by himself most of the time. It took quite a bit of effort to get his wings working, and once they were, he tired easily. Not only that, but since his wings were smaller than most gryphons his age, he had to work harder to keep himself aloft. If he caught a drift of air, however, he was able to glide, and that was much more enjoyable than constantly flapping his wings.
That being said, Ren did not really mind flying if he was doing it with someone, such as the time he had taken Alessa flying for one of their dates, the first date they had kissed. Or the time where he had flown LW back from his house (the whole afternoon had been mostly terrible, so leaving was the best part). Those times it had not seemed quite as time consuming and exhausting as the other times.
Soaring lightly over the campus of Amityville High, Ren glanced upwards. The sky was beginning to turn a dark, ominous grey, and he frowned, alighting gently on the top of a tree. Peering up at the sky through squinted eyes, he caught sight of several rolling, twisting clouds headed in the school's direction. Jackdammit, Ren thought, gritting his teeth together. It's going to storm.
He had to get back to his dorm before it started - if there was anything Ren didn't like, it was water, especially rain. He leapt down from the tree, using his wings to slow down his fall, and landed nimbly in the middle of a patch of grass. He was somewhere near the river, back where he had first met Gabrian all those months ago; Ren could hear the trickle of water nearby.
A crack of lightning split the sky, followed closely by a clap of thunder, and Ren shivered, feeling the static electricity of the oncoming storm. He stumbled through the grass, feeling a rain drop hit his cheek. Flying out would be too difficult, since he was surrounded mostly by trees and it would mean he would make an easy target for lightning, neither of which were very appealing situations. So he had to resort to traipsing back to his dorm on foot.
...or he would have resorted, had he not felt his leg catch on a weed while walking past the river. With a surprised shout, Ren staggered, tilting sideways and straight...into...the...river.
It was cold. And wet. And by far one of the most uncomfortable, unpleasant, and horrid feelings Ren had ever experienced. Kicking his legs frantically, he let out a shuddering gasp as his head broke the surface. The river was not deep at all, up to his shoulders at most, but having been caught off guard by the tumble, he had been submerged entirely. And most unfortunately for the gryphon, it had also begun to rain; Ren felt pitter patters of drops hit his head as, shivering violently, he waded towards the riverbank, his fingers trembling as he attempted to haul himself out of the river. The fact that he was now freezing, shaking, and starting to sneeze were not helping his predicament; Ren was having difficulties in pulling himself out of the water.
Jackdammit, please let me get out of this ***** water - !

Despite the fact Gabrian loved water, it was only on rare occasions that he went out on stormy days. This was usually due to two reasons. The first was that it was slightly inconvenient to come back to the dorms dripping wet from having walked through the rain in his clothes, rather than in his serpent form. The second was that... well, he'd already come to realize he'd become irremediably addicted to company and the few people he'd gotten close enough to enjoy walking under the rain with all probably objected the idea. It was a lot like eating cookies; it was just not the same if he was all alone.
Alas, sometimes, however, the call was too strong and he went out, inconveniences be damned. That only tended to happen when he'd spend a few nights on a row sleeping outside of water, which was now slowly becoming a habit. His body demanded he somehow replace his sleeping habits with a nice dip during the storm, and seeing as how he'd been doing nothing other than reading a book while watching the clouds roll in, he'd put his book down. He'd been smelling the upcoming storm for a while, and he'd been trying to decide what to do about it, but after the first few distant rumbles, the nix had given up entirely. Casting one last look at his room, the demon had murmured something about rain approaching to his pets and then had slipped on out.
Later that day, Gabrian would probably say it was fate or something that tugged him out but for now, he wasn't entirely thinking on any of that. In fact, the moment he set foot outside of the dorms, he allowed himself to shift to serpent form, sniffing the air which he felt was charged with tension. Then, he'd made his way towards the river; he'd only just managed to slip into it when the first few droplets hit his scales. He roared with the thunder, his voice masked by the sound of the phenomenon and just like he let loose around his friends, the nix allowed himself to let loose here too, though in an entirely different way. He poured his frustrations, irritations and all those feelings he'd been unable to cope with for a while out in the open, lashing at the water, diving in... diving out, snapping his jaws at startles fish as he sped through the water.
It helped, actually. Probably more than anyone realized and it was only once the rain was starting to really pour that the large serpent allowed himself to calm from whatever fit he'd just thrown, instead allowing himself to swim calmly along the river length. He even went as far as snatching small pieces of river plant life to chew on as he went and it was probable he'd have made his way down the river and back had a rather familiar voice not caught his attention. Well, no, technically it wasn't a voice; it was just familiar sounds. Coughing, grunting and small curses which Gabrian instantly recognized as Ren which.... oh dear. The serpent just hoped the gryphon had been entirely too occupied in his predicament to have heard his roaring and lashing out earlier. After all, he'd been just around the river bend.
After just a second of hesitation, he swam forward and wrapped around the other boil slightly, allowing him to grab onto his body as if it were a life saver, "Ren, relax for a moment," this was said in a deeply calming voice as he pressed the top of his head against his friend's face, "You're not ever going to climb out of that bank. It's raining and there's mud. You're going to slip right on in," he began toy move downstream, "Hold onto me; I'll take you somewhere where the water is less deep so you can step out," as he swam, his eyes slid over to the other boil, gold and slitted, but still questioning, even if he didn't voice it. What was Ren even doing out here?

Ren was finding it a tad difficult to breathe correctly. He kept sneezing, which meant that he couldn't catch his breath properly, and then there was the added fact that he was shivering terribly, his teeth chattering. It was, quite possibly, one of the worst situations he had ever found himself in, even more so than that horrendous Christmas train ride before he had even gotten to school. Rain slicked fingers gripped the blades of grass, attempting to haul himself upwards, but he kept losing his grasp and sliding further back into the water.
Ren was getting slightly panicky now, his tail thrashing behind him. His wings were useless in this sort of situation; they were sopping wet and heavy, a few of the feathers dusting off into the water, and Ren could hardly move them properly, only able to give a weak sort of fluttering. His arm pressed against the ground, rain streaking up his shirt sleeve and he let out a gasping string of curse words again, squeezing his eyes shut. The panic was rising in his throat, a sense of despair shuddering through him.
Something heavy wrapped around his waist - something familiar - and then a warm voice said "Ren, relax for a moment." A large serpent's head pressed against his face and Ren felt suddenly overwhelming relief.
"G-G-Gabrian - " he all but wailed, throwing his arms around the nix's massive serpent neck, hugging himself tightly to him. He wasn't sure why the demon was out here in this sort of weather (though he knew how much Gabrian loved water, so maybe he'd just been out for a swim), but whatever the reason Ren was eternally grateful. Letting him carry him to a different area would mean swimming through the water, but if that was his only option, Ren was going to take it. He clung to the demon as they swam, his eyes shut tightly as the cold water crashed around him, wincing at the touch of it on his skin. "W-w-what are you d-d-doing h-h-here?" Ren managed to get out.

"Shhh..." it was breathed out as more of a hiss than an actual hushing sound, though this was mostly due to the fact he was in his serpent form and he really couldn't help elongate some of the 's' sounding words, "Don't talk too much; you're frozen to the bone and you're going to need the strength to walk back, because I can't carry you bridal style all the way," which did imply he might be able to carry him some of the way. Unfortunately, Ren was nowhere near as small as LW, whom he'd carried in that style before. As he swam slithered through the water, he kept looking for swallower placed where he might be able to help the gryphon emerge out of the river. This was, after all, no place for Ren; just like the sky was not made for Gabrian's enjoyment, the water was not made for the other boil's and he under this entirely.
It wasn't until they'd been swimming for a good few minutes that the river became swallower, creating what looked almost like a beach's shore to the right, and the serpent maneouvered over towards it, helping the gryphon stand up on the ground so he could walk out, "I was enjoying a nice swim, if you must know. But I'm quite finished," this fact became quite obvious when the nix, too, stepped out of the water, reverting back to his student form; his clothes were soaked through and his hair plastered over his forehead, but he didn't quite seem to mind all that much, "You know how LW gets when there's a full moon?" despite the fact Gabrian was using one arm to help support Ren as he stepped out of the mud and onto firmer ground... his other one lifted and rubbed the back of his head almost sheepishly, "Storms are a bit like that for me. I usually don't go out unless I feel a particularly strong need to. Usually, that happens when I don't sleep in water and lately I've... been sleeping out of the water," something about the way he said that seemed to betray that yes, he was hopelessly addicted to the company he'd found in them all.
Once they'd stepped out, he paused and looked at his friend, "Do you need help?" he didn't really want to offend the gryphon by helping him walk unless he really needed it. Then, he waved a hand, "Anyhow, as I was saying. I don't usually do it, but the fact I've been sleeping out of water and err... the frustration I've felt over some tidbits sort of made me decide I should come out and let lose for a bit," stretching his arms over his head, the nix closed his eyes and lifted his face to the sky, allowing the rain to fall on him, obviously enjoying it, "It did me good," dropping the stance, he turned to the other boil, "But the question here is; what are you doing out?"

Ren attempted half a grin, pressing his face against Gabrian's scaly neck. "Are y-y-you g-g-going to carry me p-part of the w-w-way, t-then?" he managed to get out before letting out another screechy gasp as a wave of water cascaded over him. This was positively ridiculous; Ren felt terribly pathetic, and although he was more than just a little grateful for Gabrian's help (he had the sneaking suspicion he just might have drowned without him, or at the very least gotten a very bad case of pneumonia), he did not like having to rely on anyone to help him, especially when he was looking as bedraggled and helpless as he did at the moment.
It took a lot longer to get to the shallower area than Ren preferred, several minutes at least. Those minutes felt like hours to him, and by the time Gabrian stopped, Ren felt frozen stiff. It took a bit of prying and yanking to get his fingers to unlatch from around the nix's neck. Gabe's tail unwound from around his waist and pushed him upright. And then within seconds a full grown demon stood there in place of the serpent.
"A n-n-nice s-swim?" Ren got out, raising an eyebrow as he stood there, momentarily frozen in place. His hands clutched his arms, hair dripping wet and sticking to his face. "Y-you're a v-very strange p-p-person, you know t-that, r-r-right."
Just standing there wasn't going to do him any good, but Ren's legs felt stiff and achey, like he hadn't used them in quite some time. One step forward was as far as he got before they gave way and he collapsed to the ground, gasping and sputtering. Unfortunately it also gave him a mouthful of dirt and sand, and Ren pushed himself halfway up, spitting out a leaf. "I d-don't l-l-like w-water," he said, his body shaking tremendously. His wings felt as if they weighed a million pounds, heavy and wet against his back. Several feathers had drifted off, sticking wetly to the ground. "I d-didn't know it w-w-was going to r-r-rain. I c-c-came out here t-to f-fly and t-t-take my m-mind off of t-things, b-but got c-c-caught in the s-storm."
Truth be told, Ren did not particularly want Gabrian to know why he had been out. He had had yet another nightmare, and more phone calls from his parents earlier that morning, and along with that, Ren had just felt a strange desire to spread his wings for once. Flying was not something he did all that often, contrary to the beliefs of the other students, which was probably why Gabrian was so concerned. But he did not like worrying anyone, especially Gabrian of all people.
He tried to push himself to a standing position, but only staggered again, collapsing. "I s-seem to be h-having a b-b-bit of t-trouble," Ren said, smiling weakly and feeling horribly embarrassed about the whole predicament. He wanted to be able to walk on his own, but it seemed as if his frozen legs would not allow him that. Not only that, but he had started trembling violently, sneezing several times in a row before he could catch his breath. Great, Ren thought irritably, pressing his forehead to the sandy river bank, breathing heavily. I can't seem to do anything right today...this is just great...
"H...h-help m-me...?" Ren said, somewhat pleadingly (and pitifully), not looking at the nix. ".....p-please..?"

Had this been any other time, Gabrian would have likely scoffed at Ren, told him he was being delusional and probably left it at that. However, something about the way the other boil was stuttering (or rather, he figured it was the fact his teeth were knocking together from his shivering), not to mention the way he hugged himself... made the demon let out a sigh, "Yes, I believe I may have to, Ren," it didn't sound like the demon was inconvenienced, but rather, it was almost as if he were deeply concerned. In his defense though, the gryphon looked horribly pitiful at the current moment. So much so that Gabrian was quite glad he was the only witness of his friend's downfall, "Please tell me you're not coming down with a cold," he couldn't tell, given the rain and the fact their clothes were soaked through; the way the other boil was talking was not encouraging though. Specially not encouraging was the fact Ren didn't seem to be currently able to walk three paces before falling flat on his face, and while the nix had immediately tried to react in an attempt to help... he stopped when the other boil stood and tried again. Alas, it was only to have the process repeated, for he collapsed down on the ground again.
"H...h-help m-me...? .....p-please..?"
In all honesty, Ren didn't really have to ask in such a pitiful, pleading way; the nix had already begun moving towards him before the gryphon had started talking, "All you have to do is ask," he murmured as he crouched down on the ground. For a moment, he remain there, as if surveying the situation, the ground and his chances of pulling off what he had in mind without falling on the ground with Ren in tow, "Let's give this a try, shall we? Let's just hope that whole thing about birds having hollowed bones is true," that really, the only warning the gryphon got before Gabrian curled one arm under his knees and the other around his back, attempt to indeed lift him off the ground and carry him bridal style. If only because this was probably easier than having to drag around Ren's dead weight and, well,Gabrian felt rather revitalized by the rain in question, "I don't think I'm going to be able to carry you for long, love," he drawled out as he looked down at the boil in his arms, "You're no LW, but I'll probably reach the school gates before I have to put you down."
As they walked, he found himself snorting, "I'm hardly strange. Aquatic. Pull to water and all that. I keep getting the impression you guys forget about that little tidbit," there was a pause during which Gabrian narrowed his eyes before he lowered his head, allowing his forehead to land on Ren's as they walked, "Hmmmm.... I can't even tell if you have a fever or not, jack damnit," he lifted his head up and tried to move his hair out of his face with a sharp movement; it sadly, remain plastered over the nix's forehead, forcing him to blow every so often, seeing as how his hands were occupied, "As far as being out because you needed to take your mind off of things... this wouldn't have anything to do with your recent visit to your house, would it?" he allowed that small bit to sink in before continuing,"LW told me all about that," and by 'told him all about it', Gabrian meant he'd managed to yank it out of the she wolf quite successfully, "Do you want to talk about it?" preferably while drinking hot chocolate and wrapped around warm, fuzzy blankets, actually, but he figured that right now that was asking a bit much.

Ren had never been colder in his entire life, with the exception of the snow filled Christmas field trip. It felt as if his very bones were ice, clattering together to make him shake and tremble. "I d-d-don't know i-if I'm c-coming d-d-down with a c-cold or n-not," he answered the nix, face flushed as he blinked pitifully up at Gabrian. He supposed he must be a rather pathetic sight; all bedraggled, tangled hair and clothes soaked through to his skin, barely able to walk. It was humiliating and idiotic, but water was something that Ren had always been overly sensitive to. Where others merely scoffed at the drops, Ren could not help the hiss of irritation (and yes, a little fright as well) at the proximity of the water. So the facts that he'd A.) gotten caught in the middle of a horrible storm, and B.) he'd fallen into a shallow river in the middle of said storm, were pretty bad in and of themselves.
Gabrian had stepped over to him, and Ren knew what he was going to do before the nix actually did it, so he pushed himself to sit upright. One of Gabrian's arms slipped easily under his knees, and then the other was under his back, and then in one swift movement Ren was up in Gabrian's arms, cradled against his chest.
Ren managed a smirk, reaching up to slide his arms around the demon's neck, pressing his face into Gabrian's shoulder. "T-t-that's good enough f-f-for m-me," he got out. "And I d-d-don't weigh that m-much, I p-promise." Gotta lay off all of those late night cookie times with Jove.
It was nice, being carried like this. Ren was usually the one to carry the ghouls this way when he flew, or even when he was just playing around with them. But, being a boil, he had never actually experienced this sort of feeling before. It was new, but it made him feel...safe, somehow. Comfortable and...not...particularly warm, since Gabrian was sopping wet as well, but at least it was only for a short while.
"I-I feel a b-bit l-like c-c-crap," Ren offered weakly as the nix leaned down, pressing their foreheads together. "B-but that m-might have something t-to d-do with the f-fact that I just f-fell into a r-river."
He sneezed a few times, as if to add fact to this statement, and reached a hand up, rubbing irritably at his nose. However, Gabrian's next words made him stop abruptly, and he slid his gaze sideways, blinking slowly.
"V-visit...to m-my h-house?" he asked, feigning innocence. His teeth were still chattering together in a manner that was most annoying, but at least the stammering was beginning to go down. "I d-don't know w-what you're t-t-talking about..."
Ren trailed off. LW. Of course it had been the shewolf. He was not mad at her, nor annoyed; more like exasperated. Yes, LW was looking out for his best interests, even Ren knew that. But he had wanted to keep the visit home a secret from the others, seeing as how he had failed so humiliatingly to stand up to his father. LW, on the other hand, had done it, but Ren could not even do that much to his own father.
He sighed. "D-d-o you...want to l-listen..?" Ren asked quietly, shifting his position a bit. "I-I'm sure you have b-b-better things t-to do than sit and listen to m-me whine ab-bout my family a-again."
He felt as if he were burdening them every day with the same old thing. By now it was obvious that the others knew how he had grown up, and though they were there to support him, to guide him, Ren did not want to always be the downer in conversations when it turned to his parents and sister. It was bad form to consistently speak of one's troubles, and it was most likely irritating to the other's when he had had one of his days.
Ren settled for brushing aside the comment. "H-how much l-longer?" he asked, somewhat pleadingly, beginning to want desperately to get out of the freezing rain. "A-are we there y-yet?"

Ren was indeed surprisingly light, to the point the nix suddenly stopped walking in order to move the gryphon in his arms, his face thoughtful, as if he were judging something or other, "Hmmm.... actually, no, scratch that," he drawled out as he continued onward, his tail twitching lightly behind him, "You're not that heavy. You're only slightly heavier than LW, and I've been able to carry her longer distances," he seemed to consider his own words and snorted lightly, "I'll let you make the choice, Ren, because I'm not quite sure you want to be seen carried across campus in this style. So if you think you can manage, I'll let you down once we get to the gates," Gabrian motioned up ahead, eyes hooded calmly as he moved, "It's right up ahead, don't worry. We'll get you warmed up. And we'll refrain from mentioning this little escapade to the ghouls; you know they tend to worry," unfortunately, the position was hardly warm. Now that he was out of the water, with the wind blowing against him though... it was uncomfortable, and he clutched Ren all the tighter out of instinct.
"You look like crap," he told the boil his his arms, his gaze lowering down to inspect him, "And I mean that as lovingly as possible, Ren. But honestly, you do. I was going to offer you some swimming lessons at some point, I realize what a bad idea that is just by taking one look at you," he shifted the boil's weight slightly so he could snake the hand gripping around his back to his forehead, pressing his palm against it, "Hmmm..." shaking said hand, he attempted to rub it against Ren's shoulder to heat it up, "I really can't tell, jack damnit..." thankfully though, they were reaching the school gates and the nix let out a soft sigh of relief, "Would you rather I carry you all the way, or would you like to give walking a try? I'm taking you to my dorm by the way. The ghouls are in the monster building right now anyhow, and I rather not risk it until I have to all freshened up and warm."
The fact Ren had evaded the topic of his visit was not missed and the demon narrowed his eyes slightly, but chose to ignore it for the time being, instead deciding to focus on what was a little bit more important now. Which was... trying to get Ren on his feet without allowing him to fall flat on his face. This was easier said than done though, seeing as how the poor gryphon could barely hold himself up, "I'm going to let go of your feet, but keep my arm around your back. You keep yours around my neck and we'll make it just fine with a little bit of effort," the position was reminiscent of the one he'd been in with Alessa during their walk through the Icy path in Christmas land, albeit... much colder due to their soaked clothes, "And... you know perfectly well what I'm talking about," it was said only after he'd begun to take tentative steps forward, waiting to see if Ren could endure this or if he'd have to lift him up into his arms again, "Don't be too harsh on LW though. It took me quite a long while to get it out of her. The little minx refused to tell me anything but.... I got it out of her at the end," he actually managed a small smile, as if to say that why yes, he had his methods, and they were actually quite effective.
Alas, the smile vanished almost as soon as it came, his grip around the gryphon's middle section tightening just a notch, "Well," he drawled out, "I'm not going anywhere, Ren, and surprisingly enough, no, I have nothing better to do than hear you talk. I like your voice anyhow. Might as well make some conversation and get it off your chest. I'll listen," he paused and motioned towards the demon dorms up ahead, "Might make you feel better. specially once we're inside. Do you like hot chocolate?" this was murmured as the took their first steps up the stairs and into the dorms.

Ren gave a snort that was somewhat derailed by the fact that he sneezed right in the middle of it. "I d-d-don't weigh a l-lot b-because I eat h-healthy. F-f-for the m-most p-part," he added, somewhat as an afterthought. Those cookie nights and the fact that his ghoulfriend was a delicious baker might have had something to do with his not eating healthy. Not that he particularly minded this fact, but being carried by Gabrian made him think more on it.
"I c-can try and w-walk," Ren got out before he sneezed again, several times in quick succession. "And I w-would appreciate the g-ghouls n-not finding out about t-t-this either." They would just worry, feel sorry for him, and having Gabrian worry about him was bad enough. Ren did not like anyone feeling bad for him, especially the three people he was closest to.
Ren felt Gabrian's hand against his forehead. "I d-don't f-feel all that g-g-great," he admitted, flushing a bit. "B-but I'm s-sure it's n-n-nothing. Just c-cold." Not sick, not sick, Ren chanted in his mind. He couldn't get sick; there was too much he could be doing and he did not want to be hindered or be considered even more pathetic by the fact that he was, in fact, getting sick from falling into a river in the middle of a storm. Even thinking it in his head made him feel pitiful and weak.
Ren dropped his legs obediently when Gabrian let him partially down, taking one tentative step, then another. When he was certain he could walk without too much difficultly, Ren gripped around Gabrian's neck and shoulders, leaning heavily on the demon as the two of them made their way back towards the school, in the direction of the demon dorms. Ren was, to say the least, very grateful that they did not have to go back to the monster dorms, at least not yet.
He sneezed again. "I d-do not," Ren protested weakly, but it sounded dumb to his own ears, so he let out a shuddering sigh and added gloomily "It s-sucked, okay. My p-p-parents are the s-same as ever. They n-never change." He paused, then added softly. "I n-never expect them t-t-to." Sliding a mildly exasperated glance in the nix's direction, Ren lifted a brow as if to say Oh, really. Your methods were that persuasive, were they.
Another sneeze. "I'm g-glad you l-like my v-voice," Ren said dryly. "C-considering that my F-F-FEAR is all about m-my v-voice." A pause. "Y-yes," he said, his voice sounding a little hopeful. "I like h-hot c-chocolate. With, u-um...m-marshmallows, m-m-maybe..?"

Ren's small snort was met with an elegant arch of the demon's brow, "Healthy, you say, huh," they were climbing up the stairs of the dorm, and he figured that taking the gryphon's mind off the task was probably for the best, "I don't know, Ren. One would figure that with Alessa for a ghoulfriend, your diet would have too much sweet stuff to be determined as 'healthy'," he smirked down at his friend slightly, and then helped him up the last couple of steps, thankful to be out of the rain and under a roof. Granted, the demons weren't going to like the fact the corridors were going to be soaking wet... but they would have to deal. Hopefully the gnomes would fix the water stains they left as they walked along soon enough, "I won't tell them if you don't," he murmured, making his way to his dorm room, which was thankfully on the first floor. He'd never been so glad to live on the ground floor than that very day, "What they don't know," he murmured as they reached his door, "Can't hurt them," he used his free hand to open the door and peeked inside, making sure there were no unexpected visitors before shoving it wide open in order to guide Ren inside.
Firs things first; they were going to have to get Ren out of those clothes and dried up. Then dressed up in clean, warm clothes, followed by chocolate, with marshmallows, apparently, "I keep wondering how we get ourselves into these situations..." it was probably hard to tell what he meant by those words, at least until he unwound his arm from around Ren, allowing him to drop on the sofa before going to the dresser. Once there, he grabbed a large towel and a set of baggier, more comfortable clothes; the ones he'd worn the day he'd met Medieval, actually. After tossing the towel and the clothes to his friend, he turned to watch him, arching a brow as he leaned against the dresser, "We're always getting into situations, you know," the way he stressed out that word seemed to suggest at the clothing (or lack there of), was becoming much more normal than it probably should be, "Bathroom's over there, but I've no qualm on you just taking them off there. I was also wondering if your wings might need a hair blower. They look heavy like that. Your hair might need a go too," but then, so did his.
Gabrian, however, unlike Ren, could wait. He wasn't going to catch a cold anytime soon and though it was true he didn't particularly enjoy the fact his clothes were soaking... it was merely a minor inconvenience, as far as he was concerned, "Hmmm.... you know. If you ever go back, you should take me with you instead," he had little doubt he'd manage to do anything at all, but really, he wanted to see it with his own eyes, "People rarely change. Which is probably something they don't realize. I think you're just fine the way you are," a shrug, and then a small smirk, "I can be very convincing and persuasive when I want to be; I get what I want out of you, don't I?" he seemed to catch the way Ren arched a brow, because he lifted his hands in the air, as if in mock defense, "I was a perfect gentleman all the way. I am most innocent," and despite the fact he looked anything but, it was technically true.
Another smirk, which soon enough dissolved into a smile; a real smile, "Your voice is lovely, Ren," he then brushed his own comment aside by motioning towards the cupboards, "I've got marshmallows, but you might want to freshen up first, love."

Most likely they were trailing water all along the corridors of the demon dorms, but at the current moment Ren could not have been less concerned. His mind was not even really grasping the fact that Gabrian had half carried him to his room, and instead was focusing solely on the fact that he needed to get warm, and he needed to get warm fast.
It seemed like forever, but they finally made it to the nix's room, and Ren almost (but not quite), toppled over when Gabrian stepped away from him, letting go to move over to the dresser and rifle around in it. Ren glanced around for something to hold onto to stay upright. When he could find nothing, he simply stood there, hugging himself and shivering like a half drowned cat - which, essentially, he was. Sort of.
"B-because y-you start everything," Ren answered Gabrian, though there was a smile on his face that indicated he was merely teasing. "I h-happen to be q-q-quite an in-innocent little g-gryphon, thank y-you very m-much - aaaaccchhhooooo!"
This first sneeze was followed by several more, in quick succession. Ren reached up, wiping his nose miserably, but since his shirt was soaked, it only succeeded in making his nose even more cold, smearing water across his face. He gave Gabrian a rueful look as the nix set the clean clothes beside him. "I d-don't think I c-can g-g-get as far as the b-bathroom, so you'll h-have to m-make do with me c-changing h-here."
Not that he had ever had any issues about simply stripping when another was present in the room. Ren had never really been particularly adamant about modesty when it came to changing, and he was not about to start now. Besides, he thought as he pried his half frozen fingers from his shirtsleeves. It's just GABRIAN.
With shaking arms, Ren reached down, gripping the hem of his shirt before pulling it up and over his head, discarding the wet shirt on the floor. It took quite a bit more effort to do it than it normally would have, since Ren's arms felt like lead and it took a few tugs to get it over his head. After his shirt came the jeans, and then Ren reached for the new clothes. The whole process took a good several minutes, since Ren's movements were slow and awkward, stopping to sneeze loudly every few seconds. However, finally - finally - he was in warm clothes, though he was still freezing. His wet hair was also clinging to his face, and since Gabrian's clothes were a bit too big on him, the sleeves hung past his hands, the bottoms of the sweatpants trailing on the floor.
"Um," said Ren, craning his neck to look at his wings as he wrung out his tail, snapping it sharply to shake off any excess water. "They m-might...? I've n-never tried a hair b-blower before."
A pause. Then, suspiciously, "P-please tell me y-you don't actually h-have a hair b-blower in this room, d-do you, G-Gabrian?" Though it would not surprise him in the slightest.
Taking slow, shuffling steps, Ren made his way towards the bed. He flapped his wings once, twice, and did the same sort of snapping gesture with them that he had his tail. It succeeded in getting most of the water off, but it did not stop the shivering. However, the blankets - the bed -
Ren all but collapsed on top of Gabrian's bed. It took several attempts of pushing himself, but he managed to climb under the covers, nestling down into them like a cat, essentially creating a "nest" of sorts for himself. For a few moments Ren just pressed his face into the blankets, closing his eyes and breathing in deeply, inhaling the warm, familiar scents. Gabrian's words made him blink, however, and he lifted his head.
"Y-you c-can't come h-home with me," he said, sounding horror struck at the very notion, and then flushed with pleasure, averting his eyes before snorting and adding "Persuasive, yes. As for g-getting w-what you w-want, well...we'll see."
The stutter was at least beginning to dissipate fully now, since his teeth had almost stopped chattering. However, the shivers kept running through him, like tremors, and Ren opened his mouth to say something, but Gabrian's comment about his voice had him stop abruptly, feeling his face turn scarlet. Stupidly and irrationally happy that Gabrian liked his voice, Ren hugged a pillow to his chest and said "I'm f-freshened up enough. H-hot chocolate now?" The words were said almost curiously, Ren's ears swiveling forward hopefully.

For a long moment, it was quite clear that Gabrian was trying to decide if he should laugh or snort at Ren's words. Honestly, he couldn't even think of a decent way to rebuke his claim because... well, the gryphon was right; most of the questionable situations they had found themselves in, had been initiated by him, "Indeed?" he managed as he arched a brow, "All I can say in my defense, is that you were asking for it. Every single time," he winced slightly at Ren's first sneeze, which was swiftly followed by a succession of sneezing, "Eesh... Ren, change already. You're going to catch your death if we dally any more," he turned around and headed towards the dresser again, this time pulling out a clean towel and another set of clothes which he intended on putting on himself. After all, worrying about his friend was all fine and dandy, but he should probably take the chance to dry himself off too; while it was true he rather liked water, he did not appreciate the cold feeling that accompanied it when he emerged wet from a river.
"Hmmmm?" he looked over his shoulder as Ren spoke again, and then made a soft clicking sound with his tongue, "You have nothing I've not seen before," was his drawled out declaration as he shrugged out of his vest and cape, using the towel to dry his chest, head and hair off. Then, after dropping the wet, soggy clothes into the laundry basket, he took his clothes and headed towards the bathroom, turning his head to offer his friend a smirk, "Of course I have a hair dryer. Why do you ask?" he was about to close the bathroom door behind him when he paused, frown and turned towards the other boil again, pointing at the ground with a finger, "Stay. Wait for me here. I mean it. Don't go away," that said, he slipped into the bathroom and closed the door behind him.
When he emerged, some minutes later, he was sporting baggy sweatpants and a large, comfortable sweater. Under one arm, he held the hair dryer he'd talked about earlier, "And why not?" he'd emerged just in time to hear his friend squawk about how he could not go home with him, "I reckon that... it might be a g good idea to handle them, rather than let them handle you whenever they see fit. You know what they say - attack before your enemy can attack. I'm not a fighter, Ren, but I can stand my ground a touch better than my poor Puppy," his other hand held a brush which he was using to comb through his hair, making his way towards the bed where he flopped down by Ren's side. He offered the gryphon a small smirk of a smile, "Yes, persuasive. But that's because I'm usually right, am I not?" that said, he let out a sigh, "Fine, fine. Chocolate first. After I set it up, you're flipping over on your stomach so I can dry off your wings. Otherwise you're going to be napping on wet blankets soon enough," that said, he got up and made his way towards the kitchen which... was, essentially, just a couple of cupboards, a mini fridge, and a microwave.
No, Gabrian could not cook, and he wasn't even going to try it, "You liked marshmallows, didn't you? If you want those, you're going to have to help me," that said, he grabbed the bag of marshmallows from a cupboard and tossed it across the room at the gryphon, "How do you plan on handling your family anyhow, Ren? Ignoring their existence is all fine and dandy until it's... not. you're going to have to do something at some point."

For some reason, being in Gabrian's room made Ren feel safe. Warm. Comfortable. Even if he was standing around completely soaked and looking like a drowned cat. Perhaps it was the fact that the whole place smelled like Gabrian; cinnamon and spices. Or perhaps it was just that it was very light and cheerful (and mildly girly, but that was beside the point). But whatever it was, something about the demon's room was just...soothing, for lack of a better word. Especially since Ren was not, to say the least, in the best of moods currently.
"Where w-would I g-go?" he called dryly after Gabrian as the nix headed towards the bathroom. Ren shivered a bit, rubbing his hands up and down his arms in a relatively pathetic method of trying to get warm. He wished it was less cold outside, and although Gabrian's room was higher in temperature, he was still shivering quite a bit. "And the f-fact that you have a h-hair d-dryer is really g-girly, you know. Although I s-suppose with your hair you'd n-need it," he murmured to himself, somewhat as an afterthought.
When Gabrian came back, Ren was already curled up on the bed, his wings tucked around him like a wet cocoon. He was probably dripping water all over the sheets, but he lifted his head to look up at the nix, letting out his breath in a long sigh.
"Look, G-Gabrian," he said, pushing damp hair back away from his face as he sat up, fingers absently smoothing out his tail. "My p-parents are very...interesting creatures. They d-d-don't take lightly to talking back, and they certainly don't take lightly to demons. They have a very strict point of view when it comes to anything other than their kind, adn by that I mean they don't like you."
In his sudden irritation, Ren's chattering had disappeared - thank Jack. He had managed to suppress the urge to shiver, at least for now, fingers digging into his arms as he rocked slowly back and forth. It was not that he did not trust Gabrian to be able to handle himself around his parents; if anything, Ren trusted the nix to handle them quite well. But it was the idea of those people dealing with someone as...well, to put it in simple terms, as special as Gabrian was. Ren had already disliked LW visiting from the start (seeing as how she wasn't even supposed to have come along in the first place), but the last thing he wanted was for his friends to have to deal with them.
He caught the marshmallows easily, sliding his legs from the bed and padding softly over to where the demon was. Leaning against Gabrian's side as he worked, Ren said, somewhat defiantly "I don't see why I have to do something about them..."
A pause. Ren toyed with the bag of marshmallows. "I don't know what there is to do about it," he finally said, voice barely above a whisper. "There's nothing I can say or do that will make them change their minds, change what they think about me."
He had tried. Dozens of times, hundreds of times, probably thousands of times by now, with the same end result: namely nothing but Ren feeling pathetic and miserable while his parents stayed of their own opinions. They would not change, could not change. Dead set in their ways to the point of fanaticism.
Ren gave a small shrug. "There is nothing to be done," he said softly.

Making the chocolate was nowhere near as hard as making that damned minipet food had been. After all, it didn't really involve real cooking; at least not the type of cooking Gabrian was almost certain might cause his room to catch fire. It was quite obvious by his fluid movements that this wasn't the first time he'd gone through the trouble to make himself (or someone else) a cup of it. In fact, going by the simplicity and efficiency of his movements, it was probable he had chocolate quite often; he was even able to pay Ren most of his attention as he moved about, "I have no idea where you might go, Ren. I just didn't want you leaving to evade talking to me. Besides," this was said as he finally extended a hand, no doubt expecting Ren to have the marshmallows ready, "It's not all about you; I need help."
The small admitance probably seemed almost out of place given the current conversation. However, the moment the demon turned to look at his friend, it was clear that he was not only not mocking the gryphon, but looked deeply concerned, "Leaving your family aside for a moment.... Ren, has Alessa ever taken her hoodie and those long... fluffy sleeve things she insists on wearing in your presence?" this was drawled out carefully as he handed the other boil a mug of warm chocolate, taking the other one for himself. Rather than wait for an answer (because he was quite sure the answer to his question was 'no'), Gabrian strode over to the bed, lifting the humid covers away from the bed so they could sit, "I figure you haven't, or you might have stormed into my room demanding an explanation," he sipped his chocolate before settling his gaze on the other boil, making a motion for him to come over, "Sit. Turn your back on me. I'll deal with your wings while we talk - and having a hair dryer is not girly. I heard you by the way. My hair happens to be long and I despise the cold," that and it tended to need quite a lot of care.
Waving a hand, the demon almost seemed to wave his words away, setting his mug on the nightstand before reaching for the hair dryer, "Anyhow," he murmured as he plugged it in, "As I was saying; you would have had something to say, because you see, Alessa was marked by a demon. Very much like LW was," he switched the thing on and began to dry his friend's wings, "The marks are around her wrists, I believe. both of them. Beautiful, little serpent bracelet marks," he reached with one hand, running his fingers through the feathers as he blew the hot air on them, "And before you decide you want to throttle me, I'd like to point out I'm only responsible for one of them; the other one was all Alessa's doing and you were actually present when it was made. The older one... well, I take full responsibility for it. I didn't like her very much when I made it. She was stubborn, rude and all kinds of unpleasant," he clicked his tongue over his fangs, "I'm not used to people being outright unpleasent to me and when she came to me, asking for singing lessons... I tricked her into shaking my hand; she owes me a favor which she won't be able to refuse doing."
His hand stilled in his friend's wing and the dryer lowered, "And I'm quite stuck. because now I do like her..." this was whispered, and the only reason Ren heard him was because the demon flipped the hair dryer off to continue talking, "I'm not sure what to do or how to do it in a way where she won't realize what I've done. She thinks she's giving me cooking lessons in exchange, but I worded the deal in a way that made it so rather than cooking lessons, she owes me a favor. I'm not sure how to break it - I've not even done the papers yet because I don't know how to break it to her without letting on what I did," at this point he let out another sigh, "The other mark doesn't bother me because her part is done; I owe her a favor, and... seeing as how Alessa is Alessa, I'm not particularly worried or concerned over what she might ask," setting the dryer down, he reached for his mug and took a few sips from the warm liquid, "As far as your parents go, well..." he turned his head and waited for Ren to look at him before continuing, "I don't think you can change them - just like they can't change you. What I meant to say was... how are you going to handle them? There will be a confrontation at some point. There will be a final confrontation where either they'll give up, or they will win. I'd rather the former over the later myself, and in my honest opinion, you should prepare for it. Also... don't worry. Feeling's quite mutual; I don't like them either. In fact, I abhor them," another sip, his hand reaching for the wings again, "I think they're mostly dry now."

At least making hot chocolate didn't require too much effort. Ren let his head rest against Gabrian's shoulder as the latter worked, watching as he poured milk into the mugs, and then dumped the mix in afterward, along with a dash of cinnamon.
"I wouldn't evade talking to you," Ren mumbled stubbornly, though that was an enormous lie in and of itself. If it meant not talking about his parents, then absolutely he would evade the nix, for as long as possible. He tugged open the bag of marshmallows and stuck several in Gabrian's hand. "Also I'm not sure what you're referring to. Obviously the world revolves around me, haven't you noticed this by now?"
Ren was only mildly surprised by the demon's admittance that he needed help, the only sign of this by one raised eyebrow. However his expression soon turned somewhat confused as he caught the look of hesitation and - was that worry? on Gabrian's face. "Er," said Ren, blinking, then flushed a bit. He was, in fact, guilty of trying to tug off Alessa's sleeves at times, just because he wanted to see her without them. He had seen her in other clothes, obviously, but he was confused as to what Gabrian was referring to, exactly. "N-no, she hasn't...why, erm...do you ask?"
Following the nix to the bed, Ren climbed carefully up in front of Gabrian, sitting cross legged and holding his mug in his hand. He took a long sip, closing his eyes and exhaling slowly at the warmth and flavor. Despite Gabrian - despite both of them - being rather terrible cooks, the nix did make good hot chocolate. He took another swallow.
" - because you see, Alessa was marked by a demon - "
Ren choked on his hot chocolate, letting out a hacking, sputtering cough, one hand rising to cover his mouth. For a moment he wasn't sure he'd heard entirely right, but then -
"And before you decide you want to throttle me, I'd like to point out I'm only responsible for one of them."
"You did WHAT?" Ren screeched loudly, completely missing the "She was stubborn, rude and all kinds of unpleasant" that came after that. His mind kept going back to the fact that Gabrian had marked Alessa. He wasn't really certain of how exactly he should feel about this. His best friend, a demon, had marked his ghoulfriend. On purpose. Wings fluttering almost nervously, Ren tucked them against his back, his ears flattening back against his hair as he drummed his fingers on the ceramic mug in his hands.
"So lemme get this straight," he said, once Gabrian had finished speaking. "Alessa has not one, but two marks from you? Two demon marks? From you? And for one of them she owes you a favor, and for the other you owe her a favor?"
The situation did not seem particularly good, on either side. Ren let out a low sigh, pushing his hair away from his face. "You're totally screwed," was the only thing he said before flopping back against the nix, closing his eyes. "I can't believe you marked my ghoulfriend."
It was not necessarily the fact that Gabrian had marked Alessa that really bothered Ren. He was a demon, after all, and it only made sense that he would, in fact, make contracts with those around him. It was the fact that A.) Seeing as Ren was not a demon, he felt as if he did not fully understand the way the contracts worked, which made him vaguely irritated, and B.) How was it that both LW and Alessa had managed to get themselves marked while Ren hadn't? And without his knowledge? It seemed as if Ren was slightly out of the loop here; he felt awkward and rather put out that he had not known about any of this until after the fact.
Sitting up again, Ren finished off his hot chocolate and set the mug on the bedside table, curling up on his side beside Gabrian, his back to the nix. "Have you tried asking her?" he asked, and when the words came out a bit snippier than he had intended (he was still cold and his hair was still damp), he quickly added, in a much more quiet tone "I mean to say, have you asked her to do a favor for you? Can't it be just any little favor? Ask her to tie your shoes for you." His gaze flickered briefly to the nix's bare feet. "Or maybe not, since you wear man heels. And why don't you want her to know that you marked her? Because you didn't mean to, or because it means admitting you thought she was rude?"
Back to his parents again. Ren had thought the conversation on them was over, having been relieved when Gabrian had abruptly changed the subject, but it seemed as if he was not escaping quite so easily. Ren curled up a bit more, his fingers gripping one of the nix's pillows.
"I've stopped trying to change them a long time ago," he said softly. "Just like I've stopped liking them."
Just like I've stopped loving them, were the unspoken words. Ren closed his eyes again, breathing slowly.
