NWO would only work, slim chance, if there was a global power of absolute mind control. In this case, you wouldn't go through traumatic pain. You wouldn't go through anything. You wouldn't even know what is going on. Think of it like sleeping except your body is being physically violated.

i should think it cost prohibitive to control anyone without exceptional or diabolical purpose- and it seems to me more likely they would use public relations techniques and peer pressure for most, and kill the rest. Only when cost ceases to be an issue would puppeteering become a novelty.

Whoever they are, if they exist, they're already making money off of you and getting you to think whatever they want you to think. Why would they need to do anything overtly to actively enslave you?
