 Athena was quite proud of himself. He had Zenobia and her cub traveling with him most of the time, he had his friend Niade visiting him quite a lot, and his luck with hunting was quite good these days. What more could a lion wish for? He had already hunted for Zenobia and Zenoba and let them to rest for a bit today, but no sign of Niade nearby. Usually that meant she was out with her brother again traveling a bit away. At least she always seemed to wander back toward Athena when she could.
He positioned himself just far away from Zenobia and Zenoba that they could not see him, but close enough that if there was trouble, he could hear and get back quickly. They would be napping after the meal and he was still restless. No need to bother them with his itchy paws. Maybe Niade would join them more permanently some day. He rather hoped so. Would give him another lovely lady to spoil and perhaps some cubs of his own.
The large male fluffed himself up and settled onto a rock to watch around him. His thoughts might be slightly distracted, but he was still keeping an eye out for trouble and an ear open for any calls from his charges. Every so often he would jump down from his perch and walk a little way before going back to the perch and laying there. He really was restless at the moment. He blamed having a cub around to make him desire some of his own more.
He was just about to jump down of his rock again when he noticed the approach of another feline. He perked up his ears and put his attention wholly on the newcomer. Female feline incoming! He really did want some more males in his life too, but he would never complain about another lady! He waited until she drew close before speaking. "Good afternoon, Lovely! What brings such beauty my way on such a wonderful day?"

Mizu walked, humming softly as she followed an old trail of a friend and two cubs migrating. She really did enjoy Meiah's company and the girl was more than pleasant. The air was clean and Mizu was contented, minding herself when a sudden call caught her ear, and she looked to see a rather large, rather fluffy male that called to her, and she blushed. Lovely? Not her!...Was she?
"And a good day to you too, good sir. I was merely wandering. Am I intruding?"

"No beauty is ever an intrusion, my dear." Athena purred and hopped down from his perch. He shook out his mane to fluff it up again and smiled warmly. "My name is Athena and I am always happy to have company, especially lovely company like yourself." He had of course noticed the blush, but why bother the female about it? It made her look quite cute and if he mentioned it she might not only stop doing it, but also anger her.
Females tended to get defensive and even angry when one pointed out their embarrassment. He may be a fluffy idiot at times, but there was a limit to just how idiotic he got. "I do hope I was not intruding by speaking, Lovely. As i said before I love company, and thought perhaps you might like some yourself." He waited for an answer from the female, hoping she might stay and chat for a bit.

Mizu blushed further and sat, smiling shyly.
"I wouldn't mind at all, actually. My trail is old, and it will be there a while. My name is Mizu." She bowed her head politely, eyes glittering slightly, the female feeling quite shy.
"It's a pleasure to meet you."

Athena walked over to her and nuzzled her cheek. He was purring loudly and sat next to her. The way she seemed so shy made Athena think that she might like some extra affection. His friend Niade might always be a bit less touchy feelly, but this female seemed the type to enjoy it quite a lot. He leaned over and half covered Mizu with his fluffy fur. "The pleasure is mine, Lovely."
"An old trail is never easy to follow, but if you are sure you wish to spare the time from it to spend a little time with a big, old fluff ball like myself, I would be honored to have your company." He wondered if maybe Mizu would be hungry, perhaps he should offer to hunt for her? He licked her cheek before asking. "If you have been traveling for a while, perhaps you are hungry? I could hunt for you."

Mizuj blushed further, smiling and shyly licking his cheek back.
"It won't be a both? I mean... I don't want to impose..."
Was she blushing MORE? Oh, geeze, she was, oh geeze oh geeze. Mizu knew she looked stupid and Meiah would chastise her for it, but... It was hard NOT to blush!

Athena grinned brightly. "I love hunting for and with others. And I certainly enjoy spending time with beauties like yourself." He nuzzled her face and licked her cheeks. "You are by no means imposing, Lovely." He gave a content look for a moment before fluffing up his mane again and getting down to business. There was hunting to be done!
"If you wish to help hunt, there are some zebra not too far away that we could pounce. I would need someone to cut one off from the herd and chase it too me so I can take it down... if not I believe there were antelope by the watering hole not too far in the other direction. They are much easier to sneak up on and take on my own." He hated to say it, but he rather enjoyed throwing his wait at things when he was hunting. It worked so well afterall.

"Zebra it is. They never see me coming."
She felt just a bit better and licked the fluffy male's cheek gently, before dropping to stalk, sniffing. This could be fun, she decided, and she also decided she was rather fond of the fluffy male. He was thoughtful and kind-- good qualities in anyone!

Athena grinned at Mizu. She seemed very nice and he was glad she had come across his pat. Maybe she would stick around? Who knew, but he certainly would not protest another to travel with him. His eyes half closed in a smug look when she said about Zebra never seeing her coming. He was certain she spoke true, but he had to add his own amusing truth to that comment. "They rarely see me coming either... but I tend to barrel them over before they get time to react even if they do see me." He purred again and then got down to business in the next moment.
He lead the way as they stalked back toward the zebra herd he had seen earlier. Athena had a keen memory for where things were, and directions never were hard for him to give or follow. When they came upon the zebra, he stopped a safe distance from them and looked to Mizu again. "I see one at a glance that hangs back and seems to have problems keeping up. Looks like a badly healed neck wound. Most likely restricting it's breathing. If you can spook it one way and the herd the other, I can knock it over and kill."

Mizu smiled, nodding fvaint acknowledgement and moved, creeping for the weaker zebra noiselessly, disappearing into the grass before leaping in front of the weaker beast suddenly with a roar, smirking as it sprinted from her, the herd retreating in a seperate direction. Mizu immediately moved to herd them away rapidly. Must save food!

Athena waited until just as Mizu was directing the other zebra away and then struck. He barreled out from his cover just as the weaker creature came even with him and hit the creature full in the side. His big fluffy mass knocked the creature over and he bit down hard on the back of it's neck to keep it down. The zebra had gone down rather easily and Athena was glad of that, now came the hard part really, killing it.
Athena uses his weight to hold down the zebra when he let go of the neck. The lion removed his mouth from the back of the zebra's neck and killed the creature quickly. He remained laying on top of it until it finally stopped twitching. He winced as one of the hooves caught the side of his leg and just kept sitting there. A bruise wouldn't kill him.
Once the zebra stopped moving, Athena got up and shook out his mane. He frowned at the blood spots on the white. He would have to clean that out after they ate. Oh well, such was the way of things. "Well, beautiful, I think it's time to eat. After you." He sat back on his haunches and regarded their work smugly. It was a good day.

Mizu smiled shyly, but carefully divided the kill, pulling half to him before her own, staying by him to eat contentedly. Occasionally she leaned in, grooming where the animal kicked him, and purred softly. This was nice!

Athena watched Mizu divide the kill and chuckled to himself. She was beautiful, shy, and absolutely charming. It made him want to sweep her away to travel with him, but something told him she just was not the type for that kind of long term traveling. She seemed more the settle down type of female. Pride material. Ah well, could not win them all.
He smiled at the lick on the bruise and licked Mizu's nose. "It is fine, nothing a little rest will not cure. I am honored to share a meal with such a lovely lioness. I have learned a valuable lesson today." He grinned widely at her. "If you lurk in the right place, a goddess will visit you." He gave a smug look and went back to eating the zebra before him. "Restless paws lead to goddesses... I must remember this."

Mizu blushed.
"Not a goddes... Just very lucky to meet a wonderful male." She smiled, licking his cheek again, settling herself. If only they could stay together, somehow.

Athena licked Mizu's cheek back. He chuckled warmly and gave a smug look. "You look like a goddess to me." He grinned and settled on his hunches to watch her. She was beautiful, and she seemed quite sweet. "Me? Wonderful? Ha! I am but a handsome fluffball especially compared to you, my dear." He grinned wider and scooted himself closer to Mizu.
What could he say, he was a charming fluff ball, or at least he tried to be. "What is such a beautiful lioness doing out all by herself anyway? I keep running into all these lovely women all out on their own, without even so much as a traveling companion. It makes me sad. Of course, I am glad of the company if any wish to travel with me, but I hate to see such beauty unappreciated and alone." He dropped his eyes to the ground for a moment and his voice got quieter. "Nobody should be alone."
