BattleFront games, the guys who do Flames of War have decided to make their one-time release into a permanent one this time round. This April will see the first wave of releases concerning Operation: Tropic Lightning: The plan is to crank out a new wave of Vietnam A5 boxes every year, so expect men in black pajamas and actual tank support for the NVA twelve months from this release.

Early on US forces employed loads of armor, and gave bloody nose to VC which switched to more ambush/guerilla tactics, which in turn was countered by COIN tactics of Gen. Abrams. Yes the M-1 tank is named after him. Finally by 1970s when US forces retreated it was NVA with Soviet T-55s that eventually rolled into Saigon.

It's wait and see now how this will go, though most of the community is angry at BF for ignoring the Pacific theatre again.

Speaking of that part of the world, why not tackle Korea first? A lot of the equipment used there was surplus from WWII, that should save them time on setting things up.

I wonder if the model will have a special rule to represent that when you fire the main gun all electronics shut off.

I'm curious as to how the game will resolve the terrain. Will most scenarios revolve around villages, landing zones and firebases, with hardly any jungle involved, or will they ask you to imagine the greens there?

I wonder if napalm strikes and good old American officer ineptitude are also included? I recall that many friendly-fire incidents with artillery and air support occured due to the inability of an officer to read a map properly.
On another note, here's hoping they also include Australian special forces! blaugh

Australian infantry had armour support, Special Forces went light. Though I'm guessing the rule set for this game is less about those skirmishes and more about the big battles.
