I'm not sure if this belongs in the health forum or not. owo' Feel free to move it belongs elsewhere! I work for a cleaning company and supposedly we use green chemicals. The thing is, aren't they supposed to effect human health less? The disinfectant I use just kills my respiratory system and makes me feel grimy afterward. Thoughts? I'm going to try to look up the chemicals online...

"Green" seems to have different meanings depending on who you ask.

Some companies will say a product is "green" because it was made organically. There are many different organic compounds which are not healthy to humans. Some of these products, even though they are unhealthy to humans, are better than the impact of the synthetic on the planet. Some are not.

Some companies will say a product is "green" because even though it is harmful to the environment, it is much less harmful than current alternatives. The product is comparably green.

Some companies will call a product "green" because it has little or no impact on the environment and it is also safe for people, pets, and plants.

Some companies practice "greenwashing" where they will try to make a product look "green" even though it really is not.

The best thing you can do is research the products that you are using and find out how "green" they are compared to alternatives. Good luck with your search.

Dragon pretty much nailed it.

Green/natural/non certified organic means whatever the company wants it to mean.

What are the names of the products? Do you work for a large company (Molly Maid) or a small run company? I helped my mother in law with her personal cleaning company last Friday (and again this) and I was floored afterwards. She doesn't use any green (even greenwashed) products and it was very hard. She also uses multiple products. I use three. (One is vinegar + water for glass.) Because it's family, I was able to use my own products (and she hers). Find out and let us know and maybe we can come up with some better alternatives.

I clean in a medical building, it's a local company that cleans buildings around the area, does restoration, and cleans in homes. I work for the branch that cleans buildings. We use three chemicals at my building: a disinfectant that can kill bacteria typically found in medical buildings, a general purpose cleaner, and glass cleaner. I looked up the company: http://www.spartanchemical.com/web/webhome.nsf The three chemicals are from the Green Solutions line. I think the three are the Green Solutions Glass Cleaner, Clean by Peroxy, and I'm not sure about the third, which is the one that irritates my respiratory system.
