User Image Rorret had grown up fairly well, considering he'd been predominantly ignored most his life. Oh, the omegas weren't so bad. It's just this wasn't exactly the place to grow up nurtured, and especially not with all the Brothers off distracted with their seemingly fruitless, never-ending quest for their Alpha.

And now, their new alpha was gone too. Nobody was saying it aloud, but Rummy had been gone for ages now, along with a good half of the pack...and where had they disappeared to? The whole thing was a fiasco, if Rorret had anything to say about it.

And, indeed, he did have something to say about it. Because, in some odd way, Rorret was attached to this pack. Somehow, he sensed that he could achieve greatness here. Immortality. Anywhere else, and he was just a genius. Here, he could be...well, something akin to a god.

Well, never mind all that just now. First, there were pressing concerns to deal with, and he had to play this very, very carefully.

In his time here, the young silver wolf had managed to make a few...friends, if they could be called that. Allies. And now he counted on his relationship with his mentor to help him move the pieces into place.

The ribbon he carried with him was tattered and worn, greying in places, torn in others...but he still carried it with an odd attachment, a sort of pride. His mismatched eyes glimmered.

He didn't have to hope this would work. He knew it would.

Pausing outside of Xihuitl's den, he cleared his throat, seating himself politely outside.

Skulls decorated the walls of his den, an he was just about to start cleaning his newest when something made his tail twich. He moved quietly out of his den and saw his favrite of all his brothers outside. "Ah Rorret, my dear boy you are always welcomed in my home. Come in son" he said and turned aronud picking up his newest prize and setting it aside for later.

His den was slightly larger that most because he was larger in sze than most of his brothers. His pupil looked sad and sort of thin. "Here" He said laying down a chunk of mountain lion in front of him. "I took a trip towards the mountains to see some of our brothers and found the thing half dead." A smile crossed the male's face and he sat down opposite the pup. "Now what toubles you?"

Rorret slid into the den, peering around curiously. It was a tight fit, but Rorret was small-statured and didn't mind the proximity -- at least, not for the moment.

It amused him, the care that the older wolf had for him. If Rorret were a wolf capable of such emotions, surely he would feel close to his mentor as well. As it were...well, he regarded him as highly as he regarded any wolf who was not himself.

"You have a fine collection," he said, mismatched eyes ticking over the skulls on the wall, laying upon the remaining bits of the mountain lion's body. The mountains? His head tilted. He had not been on the search for the traitor -- or for their missing members -- in some time, and he was not entirely aware of where everyone was located, or what they were doing. He hoped that would soon change. "That...is what I was coming to speak with you about, actually."

He had to be careful not to overstep his bounds here, but it was exceedingly important for him to find out exactly where he stood before he said anything. He had his suspicions...and his plans...but he needed to be careful. He didn't want to end up wherever his father was.

"It....would seem that many of our members have...been missing for some time," he said, choosing his words carefully. "Some would go so far as to say....vanished. Among them, our great Alpha."

No one else was willing to say it aloud -- that Rummy was gone, and no one knew precisely where -- but Rorret felt it needed to be addressed. The pack was in danger of falling into chaos from the combination of exhaustion and absent leadership.

Green eyes flitted over to the younger wolf, "Yes, Rummy has vanished and no one seems to know where. But our brothers stand strong and when the time comes that a leader steps forward we wil all be drawn back together."

Xihuitl thought for a moment then added. "That is not the only reason you came to speak with me. You are smart for an omega and could have figured that out by yourself. I have faith in our true God Danel and when he is ready he will return" he pushed his hood back to revel blood stained fur and wounds that hasn't been healed yet. Now that the pack was so distant it was harder to protect them all. Xihuitl had always been a guardian of sorts for them.

Rorret's ears swept forward, and he had a difficult time in containing the smile that crept up his maw. "Danel," he said, softly. He had heard the name before, and always spoken with such reverence.

This was the key of his understanding. Rummy had been a great member, well-respected, intelligent. Everyone had cared for Rummy. But Rummy...had not been a god.

Danel, apparently, had been.

"I've heard him spoken of," he said, his mismatched eyes once more sweeping the skull-decorated den. "Though I never had the opportunity to meet the God-Alpha himself." His brow furrowed. "Do you think he's still out there, willing to return after such a long absence?"

Xihutl chuckled and nodded grabbing what seemed to be the oldest skull off the ground. "This skull was given to me by Danel when i went on my first kill. And how i developed my well habit." He said and then heard his pupils next question.

"I do believe he will return, but what are we to say when. He is a God among us and we are simply here to do his will." A shadow crept across Xihu's face. "What have you heard about the old ways? Proably not much since they seemed to have died with the change of the moon"

"Not much," he said, honestly. Truth be told, so few of the members from the old times seemed even to be around now, in all the chaos, that Rorret had very little opportunity to speak to them. He had, after all, gone from ignorant pup to lowly omega, neither of which entitled him to discourse with the ranked wolves. "But I suspect the pack may have been...healthier...once."

His brow furrowed, and he said what he had been wondering about for some time but hadn't been sure was appropriate. "Do you ever think that, perhaps...the change the leadership, the loss of the old ways...do you think that's why our number is dwindling?" He lifted his eyes to meet Xihuitl's, and his expression was inscrutable. It was impossible to tell in that moment whether he was asking honestly or if he were fishing for a specific answer. "If Danel is a god...as everyone has said...do you think we are being punished somehow?"
PostPosted: Sun Apr 17, 2011 4:15 pm

"If we are being punished it is not because of our disobediance. Simply because our ways are too far fetched for the lives of the others yet" He stated and then laied down looking up at the pup.

"And yes, we were once a great pack, with many thriving members." He said a if remembering the good days. "Blood ran through in a river of death and we killed for the simply pleasure of killing, we were feared by those who were not us and loved by our brothers." Xiuhitl had a wicked smile on his face and he shook his head pulling his new prize over so he could strip away the fur and muscles to let it bleach in the sun.

He withdrew a few steps, to allow his mentor ample space to accomplish the task at hand. He couldn't help it; the words Xihuitl spoke caused his heart to beat faster, caused his blood to rush through him and yearn for action. "And then there was the traitor..." he murmured. He knew the traitor's identify of course -- by now nearly everyone know their link -- but he refused to acknowledge him as his father.

Publicly, anyway. In his heart, Rorret still believed that Rotiart had left him a great and terrible legacy to fulfill. "He thought that spreading our secrets would tear us apart. But it looks like searching for him has done the same."

What the pack needed, he mused, was fresh blood. Fresh blood, and a leader able to get them through all of this. Forget the traitor. He could do nothing to harm a pack united. But strewn about as they were...and who knew what secrets the others were divulging now that they had been blown off-course...

"We will be great again," he said then, more firmly. "Those left will rise to power."

Xihuitl saw Rorret's face change at the mention of his father. Glancing up the male saw that he was doubting the rest of hte pack simply because of his father.

"Rorret, the traitor was. . . . . a good wolf, at least in the start. But he got too greedy with other things instead of looking out for his brothers." The starry male glanced around to all teh skulld on the walls. "If i had the chance to kill him i wouldn't, i would show him the skulls of the fallen brothers he left behind. The one lesson you must learn my pupil is that your brothers come before yourself." He told him then looked towards the tattered ribbon that wrapped around him.

"I have always looked out for you Rorret, you by far were my favored of the pups brought to this pack. I do admit i have a soft spot for you, and have always kept an eye for your well being. You could be great in this pack, prove that you are not your father's son. Ally yourself with another, and break the blood bond you share with the traitor."

His ears folded back in shame. Somewhere Rorret had lost control of the conversation and it had wandered into a place he did not wish it to be. "I have no love for him," he said, in a low growl. His own eyes were trained upon the ribbon -- shreds of Rotiart's cloak, well-worn with age. "He left long before I was born. Like my sisters and my worthless mother, he is nothing to me."

He lifted his eyes to Xihuitl, embarrassed by the affection the other bestowed. For a moment, it was as though the starry wolf were looking right through him -- could see his aspiration, his desire for greatness. "I have allied with you, Brother," he said, softly.

Xihuitl nodded, "You father is worthless and i would gladly bring him back to be slautered. But that does not mean that in the past taht he was a bad brother. He fought by my side many a time." He glanced up and smiled.

"We may be a brutal pack, but that does not mean we do not come to care for our brothers" He said seeing his discomfort. Xihuitl was perhaps a little unorthodox with his treatement of the pack. But his brothers knew that he is one of the best fighter in the pack. The starry male could hold his own, so most left him free to talk as he wished.

"I am glad young one, i will always defend my pupil" He said and nodded.

"Well," Rorret said, then, shifting from paw to paw. "I'm glad of it."

He paused, thoughtfully. He wondered about his father, his whereabouts. Wondered if, as they say, the god-alpha would return when the traitor was silenced. Silenced. That was an amusing euphemism. Funny how even the most brutal of cannibals sometimes demurred from meaning.

"Those of us left should all follow your example," he said, after a moment. "In the absence of a leader, I mean. Until it becomes clear who is to take leadership...we should do our best to stand by each other."

"You can call the pack together, even if an omega by stature." He said finishing cleaning the skull. Xihuitl licked his chops and rose to his feet. "Unite the pack again in the time of need, a temporary leader could be used greatly."

Truth was that he only time the brotherhood was ever fully together was when an alpha united them. When they had a powerful and wise leader to call to them and speak to their boiling blood.

He laughed, shaking his head. "Oh, no....I'm not the leader type, I'm afraid." He was afraid, in truth, of having such responsibility, as he was quite certain he would abuse it. "No...I think my energies would be better spent...searching."
Searching for what? He kept that open-ended. "I may be able to bring some pups among us soon," he said, then, a bit cryptically. "It will be my first theft. I'm very excited."
