Morath had done as she was told. She had Thuto, her brother, collect nest material for her as she toted her belongs to the entrance of the den and too the designtated spot Brynja had desognated. Her brother had placed the softest and most fragrant grasses there as well, and bade her fair well; as his place was in the den with the other cubs.

So Morath sat, staring at her possesions and thinking about them. There was the long jagged tooth from a skull she had found recently that reminded her greatly of her father, very dull at one end and shiny at the other. She picked it up and observed it.

Brynja heard the soft murmurs between Morath and her brother, and she purposefully waited a few moments before making her way to the mouth of her den. She knew she would find Morath there with everything she'd been ordered to bring back to the den, and Brynja wasn't disappointed. A heap of bedding had been placed exactly where Bryja had indicated, and now Morath seemed to be quietly contemplating a jagged-looking tooth.

Not wanting to startle the girl, Brynja cleared her throat and waited for the girl to notice her. All of the proper preparations had been made and soon the teaching would begin.

Morath was looking so intently at the tooth that she didn't notice Brynja approach. She was busy gazing at the tooth that angered her so much, bringing it up to her muzzle and giving it a swift chomp with her front teeth, to confirm it's strength. She nodded approvingly, despite the weak looking structure, it was strong... like her father.

When her mentor made herself known, she lifted her teal mask to her. "Hello. I have my things." She motioned her head towards her pile of trinkets and bedding. "I made sure everything was like you asked. I hope I did it right." She said, nodding her head.

Brynja offered a small smile, dual-colored eyes taking in all of the belongings that Morath had brought. "You have done well, Morath. Come into the den with me and I will show you what must be done. You will cleanse your own bedding -- it is a sacred act -- and after that we will get you settled in. I am glad you had your brother's help with this."

Turning around, Brynja padded back into her den. On the floor she had a large seashell filled with strange, dried petals. In a larger turtle shell there was aromatic water that had been infused with a particular type of flower that Brynja had gathered and saved just for this occasion. In a third bowl-like rock there rested some tree-bark, shredded into fine threads.

Seating herself on the far side of these items, Brynja waited for Morath.

Morath wanted to do everything her power to make Brynja want to be her teacher and provider of knowledge. She wanted her to make her be better than her sister, better than everyone else. She wanted to be the best. She beamed at the praise she received from brynja. "Okay."

She padded behind her mentor. She peered around her, her teal masked eyes observing the three bowl type objects before them. She wondered what they were, smelling deeply the aroma's of them. She seated herself before her mentor; her head high.

"Now," Brynja said softly as she gestured at the things laid out before them, "to do a proper cleaning you will need your tools. I will show you the ingrediants I have, and from here on it will be your duty to refill these as necessary. Not only will this allow you to spend time alone in the forests for your daily meditation, but it will also allow you to learn which plants to seek out and which plants to stay away from. I do not dabble in the dark arts of poison and such. Your sister's mentor, Saraneth, has different ways of doing such things. These," she once more gestured with a paw, "are my tools of the trade."

Brynja lifted a paw and indicated the petals. "This is violet. It is a small flower that grows in the shade. The petals have significant cleansing properties. This," she gestured at the water, "is spring water infused with honey and wild rosemary. I will show you where I gather my honey from. And this," she gestured at the strange looking bark, "is bark from a very sacred tree, one that I will share with you another day. You will place this on the floor and then set your bed on top of it. It will keep evil from your dreams."

"Now," she continued, indicating that Morath carry the purple petals to the mouth of the den, "let us begin."

Morath observed her mentor thoughtfully, her gaze following Brynja's. Her forehead wrinkled for a moment at Bry's words. Her sister would know darker magics-than she? That concept made her a bit envious, not like Morath was an overly violent or dark character. "Oh... So each priestess has things they share and things they do not?" She asked inquiringly. She looked down to the tools that were lain before her.

Morath observed the different things and began to memorize them. Remembering the smells. The colors. She lifted her ears and stood, bending down to collect the petals and followed her to the entrance; her tail curled up over her back.

Brynja's duel-toned eyes flashed with fire, one she quickly attempted to tamp down. It was well-known throughout the pride that Brynja was quick to anger and even quicker to strike but she did not want to put fear into Morath's heart.

"Yes. Do not be mistaken, Morath. I have ways of making lions burn from the inside out, ways of making them beg for mercy, ways of making them tell me all the secrets I wish to hear." She gave a dark grin, smiling over her shoulder as she walked.

"You will learn these ways, you will even adapt these things to your own liking. I am only here to teach you the basics at first. If you prove to be smart enough --loyal enough-- I will show you much, much more." Brynja seated herself near Morath's belongings.

"Now we will begin. You may have questions -- I will answer them in time. For now, just do as I command and record your questions in your mind." Brynja gestured at the violet petals, indicating that Morath litter them around the belongings that she'd brought to the den. "Spread them around these things. I will then have you repeat a chant."

Morath nodded. She could sense the power within her mentor. She could sense the anger and the fury and it excited her greatly. She looked taken back, nodding. She carried the petals over and quietly sprinkled them around her objects. She noted how the petals tasted and smelled in her muzzle.

She looked down at her things, observing them and taking into context what things meant what. To her, they were family just as much as her real family was.

Brynja nodded, a small smile curling her lips. Morath was doing well -- she would be an apt pupil, that was for certain.

"Excellently done, Morath. Now speak the following words. If you stumble over them, that is fine, but you must repeat them until they are spoken properly.

utakaso maua
majira ya baridi ya theluji
upole kusafisha hii kitanda
ili nipate usingizi
na ndoto safi

Do so now."

Brynja fell silent, waiting.

Morath listened intently to every word her mentor spoke. She had to be the best. She had to excell and she had to gain the approval of everyone before her sister did. She sat in silence, taking in the words to the last one; then she processed them in her mind before speaking them; which created a pause, but she wanted perfection.

"Utakaso maua
majira ya baridi ya theluji
upole kusafisha hii kitanda
ili nipate usingizi
na ndoto safi"

She spoke slowly, as to make sure her pronunciation was correct. She didn't know what they meant, but she repeated them over and over in her mind; trying hard to keep them burned into her memories.

"What does it mean Brynja?"
PostPosted: Thu May 05, 2011 4:49 pm

Brynja was more than pleased by Morath's attention to detail and the carefulness with which she spoke. In a soft whisper, Brynja spoke reverently.

"Purifying flowers
of winter snow
gently cleanse this bed
so I might sleep
with peaceful dreams."

She was silent for a long moment after speaking before turning those odd eyes to Morath. "This is for your bed. You can move that to the corner now that it has been cleansed, but first we must settle this bark," she indicated with a paw, "under the bedding. You may alter the small chant however you like to cleanse your other tools. For now, settle your bed. We can finish with your other things after this."

Brynja was pleased with Morath. She would make a fine pupil, and as such would carry on Brynja's learnings throughout her life.
