The small room was professional but not sterile, carpeted in a very short pale green, and the examination table was a darker shade, and covered over in padded vinyl. The counter to one side was pale gray and held clear glass containers with everything from depressor sticks, to cotton balls, and even one containing suckers. The desk on the other side was made of wood, worn from years of use. The vertical blinds on the window were pulled across for privacy but left slightly turned so the sun could come in. The walls had posters describing things like circadian rhythms or diagramming the nervous system.

Angela walked in the room, carrying her laptop so she would have easy access to any files she might need. She set it on the desk and opened it, allowing to boot up while she moved about the room, getting a small tray ready with the things she would need: gloves, iodine swab, needle, vaccine, bandaid... that seemed to be about everything.

She nodded at her preparations and went over to the computer to scan through the child's file once again.

Miranda, she thought, and smiled. Albino brown rat genes, cheerful personality, very curious, she contined, and decided she might have to field a lot of questions if that were the case. That was alright with her; answering questions came with the territory, and it made being a teacher fun when the children she interacted with were eager to learn.

She did have questions but the most pressing one she had already asked before they made their way to the appointment for the vaccination and it was probably the one most important to any child and that was 'would it hurt?'

Other and Valeri were both in unison about the response that it would probably pinch a little and that the person giving the vaccination would probably do a good job at not making it hurt much at all beyond that but they didn't mention any sort of benefits to going to such an appointment. Miranda seemed okay with the prospect and it wasn't hard at all to get her to come along without much of a struggle or whining - in fact she was happy and excited to meet someone new. Valeri limped along beside his daughter and held onto her hand as they wandered the hall and eventually reached the appointed room where they wandered in.

Miranda called out a cheerful, "Hello'th!" as she swung her guardian's hand. Valeri was much more low key with a small nod and a bit of a smile for his greeting.

Angela beamed at Miranda. "Well, hello there!" she said cheerfully. "You must be Miranda! And this is your guardian?" she asked, turning to greet Valeri.

"And you're here for vaccinations today, correct?" she asked, making sure. She turned and gestured to the examination table for Miranda to be lifted or climb up.

"Did you have any questions?" she asked, looking at them both but focusing mainly on Miranda. She expected the usual: 'will it hurt?', 'why do I need them?', and perhaps even 'it's only this once, right?' But each child brought something different to the experience, and she enjoyed meeting them all.

"Yi'th!" Miranda confirmed when the woman pointed out that she was Miranda. The small girl was cheerful and fearless as she was followed by her Guardian who gave a smile and a small nod as he paused to lean on his cane for a moment before he moved to help Miranda up on the examination table despite Miranda trying very adamantly to get up on the table on her own.

"Yes we came for her vaccinations," Valeri confirmed after the child was securely on the examination table and he just leaned on his cane. He looked over at Miranda to see if she had questions. His daughter can speak her own mind he was fairly sure.

"I'th it true that you won't make it hurt'th? Mami and Papi th'ay it'll pinch a little...But you'll make sure it doe'th'en't hurt," Miranda tilted her head as her chubby legs swung a bit in the air. She didn't doubt what Other and Valeri told her but she still wanted to make sure. Things that hurt weren't pleasant but ... she'd deal with it if she had to she decided. Papi wouldn't take her to things that were bad for her.

Miranda's cheerful demeanor charmed Angela, and she smiled as she responded, "Yes, it is true. I've done this many times, and do you know what the most common thing I hear right after the shot is?" she asked, and waited to see if Miranda would guess before she continued.

"Everyone says, 'That's it?' in a surprised tone," she finished, and chuckled.

She looked over at Valeri, and asked, "Before we begin, does Miranda have any iodine allergies?" If she did, Angela would have to use the alcohol wipe instead, which was fine, but it was important to know.

Miranda tilted her head a bit before she offered, "Theeeeeey laugh?" She asked hopefully. Part of the small child hoped that it tickled instead of pinched or something similar to that. She really didn't like being pinched or rather the sensation of it. The small girl parted her lips a bit as the woman finished correcting her guess, "Oooh. It'th fa'th't?"

That's what it meant, right?

Val laughed a bit and lightly petted at Miranda's hair, "Yes as long as you sit still and behave it is over before you know it," he explained to her to help the woman along. He shook his head a bit, "As far as I know she's healthy and happy and has no allergies. It'd be a surprise to everyone if she developed an iodine allergy," he laughed a bit.

The small girl watched the two adults curiously, "What i'th an allergy?"

Angela nodded along as Val explained to Miranda, then said, "No allergies, good."

She turned to answer Miranda's question. "Well, your body has ways to get rid of germs. But sometimes it thinks the wrong things are germs, like pollen, or iodine. That's an allergy. It can make you feel all runny nosed like you've got a cold, or it can make you have a rash, or other things," she explained.

Then it was time for the shot. The prep went fast. The doctor pulled on a pair of latex gloves, then swabbed Miranda's upper arm with iodine for a few seconds, leaving a brown stain that smelled faintly like fingernail polish remover. Then she prepped the needle, then said, "Okay, I'd like you to relax your arm, Miranda. Just let it hang loose by your side. I'm going to count down from three, now..."

She did so, but the actual injection occurred on number two, as Angela knew from experience that people tended to tense up, even unconsciously, when they were expecting it. It was indeed very fast and smooth, a practiced motion, and took only a few seconds.

Miranda parted her lips a bit as she took in the explanation that was given to her by the nice lady. It made a lot of sense! She nodded her head with her little ears twitching a bit as she wrinkled her nose at the scent of the stuff that was swabbed on her arm. "Th'mell'th funny," she murmured softly and then directed her wide trusting eyes up at Angela's face and tried to just let her hang down as she was told.

Without meaning to the small girl counted down with her finding that it was kind of nice and relaxing to do so, "One...two..." There was a blink when there was a p***k - it wasn't painful but it was surprising she looked down at her arm where the needle had entered and exited without much fuss.

"...I dunno what the big deal i'th. Wa'th no big deal," she said somewhat mystified. Not that she had any notes to compare with other children. Then again she was a rather fearless child - at least as far as most things went. A certain dragon she had met some time back still gave her a bit of the shivers when she thought of them but other than that she was pretty brave.

Valeri laughed a bit, "Yep. See? No big deal."

Angela's heart melted as Miranda turned that trusting gaze on her, and she couldn't help but smile in return, encouragingly. But after it was over, she chuckled at Miranda's reaction.

"No big deal, indeed. Now, then..." she trailed off as she pressed a band-aid gently over the site.

"Keep this in place for a couple hours, and then keep an eye on the site for any soreness or redness, alright?" she said, looking at them both but intending the instructions mainly for Valeri.

"That should be all we need to do today. Thank you very much for coming in today, sir, and you too, Miranda. You were a delight," Angela said, smiling again, though there was a wistful tinge to it this time.

Miranda liked the lady she was nice and she smiled. The chubby girl loved people that smiled easily it made her more comfortable around them! She stared down at the bandaid and listened to the instructions and looked over to her Papi to see that he also seemed to be listening in so she knew that he would tell her when a couple of hours was over!

Such a trusting little girl.

Valeri chuckled as he gently moved to help his daughter down, "Thank you very much ma'am," he smiled as he waited for Miranda to take his hand.

Miranda beamed up at Angela before she moved to give the nice lady a small grateful hug before she let her Papi lead her on out uttering, "Thank you~. Wa'th ni'th'e meeting you!"

Then the pair exited the room.
