Like you're less than f*cking perfect.
Hello there! Your friendly neighborhood Rain here with my very first PotW! :3 I know my specialty is Poison types, but... as this is my first attempt, I figured I'd do my favorite pokemon of all time, regardless of its type. Of course, Dark types have always been my second favorite... but that isn't the point. whee
Here is your new Pokemon of the Week~!

The Disaster Pokemon

Absol is most likely based on the Bai Ze of Chinese mythology. It is generally described as a white beast that can take the form of a large mountainous lion, distinguished by having one or two horns on its head. They also are said to sometimes have an extra eye on their head or back. This "eye" could also be the middle symbol that appears on Absol's forehead. Absol's head is modeled after a Taijitu ("yin-yang"). The Bai Ze predicted that a plague would sweep through the Toyama Prefecture of Japan. It is considered to be intelligent, and gifted with the ability to understand human speech. This would also match the fact of Absol's independence, habitat, and body seeing to be reminiscent of a cougar and its independent nature.
Pretty cool, huh?
Now that you have a bit of background knowledge on this fabulous pokemon, let's look at its stats and see how it would fare in battle.
HP: 65
Attack: 130
Defense: 60
Special Attack: 75
Special Defense: 60
Speed: 75
Well... It's easy to see from these stats why Absol is in the UU tier. The only really impressive stat is its Attack, which is kind of like Absol's shining quality (aside from its sheer awesomeness, of course).
Did you know? Absol learns the most moves of all non-legendary Pokémon: 78.
Now let's look at some of those moves and its abilities.
Pressure
Okay, so this is probably the most annoying of all the abilities. Almost every single legendary has it and unless your pokemon is either a physical or a special wall, it won't really be very helpful. Absol is neither, so why the creators decided to stick Absol with this almost useless ability is beyond me.
Super Luck
This ability, when grouped with Absol's insane Attack stat and any of the high crit moves, can cause some serious damage to your opponent. Personally, I find this VERY useful, considering how many of the high crit moves it can learn. (In fact, the only one Absol *CAN'T* learn is Cross Poison. Go figure. xd )
Night Slash
If you own an Absol, this move is pretty much a necessity. It has a high critical hit ratio, which makes it STAB, and if you pair that with the ability Super Luck... you could turn your "average" Absol into a sweeper. On top of that, if you give it a Choice Scarf, you could make this STAB so much more powerful. :3
Psycho Cut
Did you know that Absol is the only non-Psychic pokemon to learn this move by leveling up? Not only that, but including Psycho Cut to Absol's arsenal of moves is very smart. It has a high critical hit ratio and is useful when it comes to taking out one of Absol's two weaknesses -- the dreaded Fighting types. Only problem is... if your opponent is using a speedy pokemon, say an Infernape, with a move like Close Combat... that could spell trouble for your poor weak-defensed Absol. Using a Choice Scarf or a Focus Sash against such pokemon would prove beneficial to you.
Stone Edge
Ohai there, other high critical hit move. This one is very helpful in taking down those pesky Bug types, which happen to be Absol's other weakness. Again, setting this move up with an item like Choice Scarf would make this move very powerful and possibly take care of Absol's issues with Speed. Of course, there are never any guarantees, but... it's worth a shot. You may regret not adding this move, considering Dark and Psychic type moves are ineffective against Bug.
Sucker Punch
According to Smogon, Sucker Punch is Absol's "biggest selling point". I can see why they would think something like that, what with its monstrous 130 base Attack and all. Serious STAB right there. This move is certainly very helpful, considering Absol's fail speed stat. The only fault to using this move is the possibility of your opponent *NOT* attacking in the turn you decide to use this in. Which is very possible, but in the case that they *DO* attack, they'll be sorry they did.
Protect/Detect
This is a strategy that I'm anxious to try, myself, because it seems like it could work out fairly well, if executed properly. We all know by now that Absol's Speed is less than desirable, but in this circumstance, that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing. If you use one of these moves at the start, you can see a number of things about your opponent. What moves might you expect to see, what strategy they may be hiding... you can tell if the opposing pokemon might be a threat that would lead you to switching out or if you can take it on, regardless of your weak defenses and suckish speed.
There are so many possibilities with this pokemon, which is one of the reasons why I adore it so much. Well... that and it's so beast! 8D
Until next time, fellow trainers! ^.^
