Long ago the island was a place of peace & harmony. For centuries the inhabitants lived happily amongst themselves. They wanted for nothing. All forms of disease & strife that could affect a human was wiped out. This was the golden age of the island. While the surrounding areas of the world were still crawling out of caves in animal skins, the native islanders were allready building structures that reached for the heavens. They were very advanced is their skills of magic & alchemy. At this point in history the island was not called the isle of pain yet. The renaming of the land would take place many centuries later. During the golden age of man upon the island people ran free in their knowledge of being superior to the rest of the world. As time went on the island which was then called Blijdschap, meaning joy in their native tongue, turned rather decadent. Ruling houses sat around enjoying the finer things in life such as art.

While they ingnored what was going on around them. Unknown to the general population of the island a mad man was hidden in the mountains. He practiced the forbidden arts such as necromency & human transmutation spells.

There this insane mage experimented on both man & wolf. He called upon creatures from the nether realms for help in his mad plans of merging man with wolf. The powers & knowledge to acomplish his goals were granted him. The spells worked, wolf & man became one, but they were insane. The werewolf attacked the insane sorcerer leaving him for dead. It went out into the world killing all in its path. Until it realized it was alone. The wolf creature needed others like itself. He took a human mate. Against her will a new race was born from human female & werewolf. Soon the island was over run by werewolves. They took the name Lycan from the myths of the humans. Though unlike the wolf creatures of myth the moon did not affect the Lycans appearance. They could with great effort change shape into that of a human, but prefered their naturale form of wolfman. Soon they took control of the island killing the king of these once peaceful people. They kept a few humans around as cattle for when the Lycans needed to feed. Once again something stirred in the mountains. The wizard long thought dead mounted an attack upon his creations. Wolfmen fought side by side against the humans & the wizard. The final battle took place high in the mountains.

There the wolf creatures completely destroyed their enemies. Capturing the wizard the Lycans brought him to the dungeon. He stayed in the darkest part of the dungeon for many years. There he wrote a book about how he created the Lycan race. It was simply called the Book of Wolves. In it was not only his notes on creating them, but their history on the island & all weaknesses they had. The mage was determined someday someone would find his book & destroy the werewolf creatures he made. To this day the Book of Wolves can be found under guard in the room where the Lycan leader keeps all his treasures & mystical weapons he's aquired. It sits upon a twisted pedistal awaiting someone to read it & gain the wizards knowledge.

The once mad sorcerer also created a weapon to fight the race of wolfmen. A sword that could get past all their defenses & magics they'd learned over the years. He dubbed it Wolfsbane. Once the blade was infused with magic the mage teleported it to another part of the island to stay hidden until needed.

When the leader of the Lycans had discovered what his captive was doing he sent his guards to bring him forth. Once infront of the council of wolves the mage begged for mercy. He gave the location of the sword Wolfsbane in hopes to save his life. He wished to be sent far away never to return rather than face death. The werewolf leader had other plans for the mage. He had his shaman cast a spell upon the wizard.

The mage was transformed from a man into a grotesque creature. A six armed creature of death.

He would then spend his days doing the bidding of his new masters the Lycans. From that day on the wizard was known only as the Harbinger of worms. Centuries have passed yet the once insane wizard still serves the power hungry Lycans to this very day.
