"C'n we get a cookie Mommy? C'n we?" Meggie blinked and looked down at her son as he tugged on her hand before following his gaze to the window of the bakery that they were passing by. The two of them had been heading home from a visit to the park - where they'd partaken in a small snowball war and built a snowman - when Shade had stopped to pose the question. "Pleeeeease?" The young woman chuckled and contemplated a thought in her head before nodding in response to the child's request.
"Alright; but how about we bring back enough for everyone else too? I'm sure that Kali and Faust would like some cookies too." And maybe she'd get some for Nigel and Zak as well - she hadn't quite decided if they deserved any yet. In any case, Shade beamed and nodded in approval at the suggestion.
"Yeah! Cookie f'r everyone!" the little boy cheered, prompting another laugh from his mother as she lead him inside. The sweet smell of freshly baked pastries, deserts, and other goodies wafted through the doorway as the two of them stepped inside, and Megg was all but dragged over to the counter as Shade scurried over eagerly. This was the first time that the two of them had ever been inside a bakery before, which was surprising, given Shade's love of chocolate. Then again, they didn't come by this way often on their way home from the park, so that was probably why.
"I'd like to buy a dozen of your chocolate chip cookies please." Megg said once her impling son had dragged her up to the counter. She dug out her wallet to pay for the treats, casting a glance towards Shade as she did. "Could you pick the cookies out for me, sweetie?" She gestured to the tray of cookies that was sitting up on the counter and the little boy nodded, scuttling over to pick out the treats. "We need twelve of them."
"'Kay Mommy!" Twelve cookies - that was a lot! But they did have a lot of people at the house, he thought as he began reaching for the cookies. So, logically, they need a lot of cookies!

A pair of red ears twitched as their owner cast a furtive look around. His mom wasn't looking in his direction - good, that meant step one could go underway! Carefully sneaking (well, as much as he could sneak with a permanent limp) out from the back of the shop, to just behind the counter - and still out of sight of the shoppers at the front of the store - Lucky sniffed the air and then initated steps two-three-four and infinity all at once, reaching for his ultimate prize, which was sitting just on top of it, well within reach if he climbed up on his special box:
The biggest chocolate chip cookie his Mom had ever baked! The thing was the size of his head, at least, he was sure of it, and she had said that it was for selling, not for him to eat... but.... he was hungry, and it looked so good - and she could always, always bake more. A grubby red-furred hand lunged for the cookie, nestled nicely amidst a bunch of other similar (but in Lucky's mind, smaller) cookies, hoping to snatch his prize and get away before Paulie could stop him.

"Six...sev'n...eight...nine...ten...'leven..." Shade blinked as he looked into the bag of cookies that he'd been getting for his mother. She wanted twelve, and right now, he was counting eleven. The little boy frowned and did a quick second count of the treats in his bag - he only had eleven, so he'd need to take another.
The boy didn't take his eyes off the bag as he reached up to grab one last cookie, which was probably why he didn't see the OTHER hand that had been reaching for that same one - until it bumped into his, however. Golden eyes immediately looked over towards the tray at that moment, a confused expression on his face as he stared at the hand that had been grabbing for HIS cookie. Frowning, Shade grabbed hold of the cookie and tried to pull it down, a rather difficult task when someone else was trying to take it too. "Heeeeeey!" The child could see that the other hand was red, but the counter blocked everything else. Who was trying to take his cookie?? "That's mine!"

Lucky scowled and swatted at the hand that held his cookie with his free hand. "No 's not! It's mine, I live here an I sawr it firs'!" he said, tugging desperately at the cookie, his long ears twitching as he fought over his prize. "Mine, mine mine!"
Paulette saw what was going on, but she didn't really feel a need to intervene - it was best to let them work this out themselves, in her opinion. So she pretended not to notice the little cookie-fight starting up, and would continue to be 'ignorant' until she felt that she actually needed to step in.
