Art - Riley is a semi-active participant in various online art communities, and had quite a fan following back when she was more prolific. She's not an amazing artist, by any means, but she loves what she does and she used to spend a lot of time working on it. While she doesn't draw as much as she used to, she still spends time on DeviantArt to follow her favourite artists and respond to her fans. School and her other hobbies have cut into her art time a bit recently, so her artistic output has been self-limited to a daily sketch.
Fandom - The 'art' that Riley 'creates' is all related to one specific sub-section of the rather infamous furry fandom. She is a therian. More specifically, Locke considers herself to be a lycanthrope, a werewolf otherkin. She believes that she is a wolf born into a human body, and through the connections of the internet she has found a community of like-minded people. If she's not drawing lycanthrope art, or looking at art or photos of wolves and werewolves, then she's probably chatting with other members of the therian community. Riley does not consider herself a 'true' furry, mind you, those people are just sick.
Roleplay - Although this could really be seen as a simple extension of her interest in the fandom, Locke does spend a fair amount of time roleplaying online. Her main character (no, it's not a 'fursona', FU) is a representation of her true inner self; a conflicted and noble werewolf who constantly fights against her own bestial nature in an attempt to bring order to a chaotic world. She's beautiful and noble, but not afraid to kick some butt when needed, and of course she's far more well-read and educated than one would think of such a beast. While her duties keep her too busy to find love she has no lack of admirers, and... well. While school and her other hobbies tend to come first, Locke usually has at least one PBEM game going and responds on a weekly basis.
World of Warcraft - After a brief and frightening brush with WoW addiction a few years ago, Locke has recently gotten back into the game - albeit with strict self-imposed limits. The reason for her return? Worgen, of course. She is a member of a semi-casual raiding guild, with fairly lax attendance requirements. Adjusting to life in the Alliance has been strange for her (her previous main was an Orc shaman named Wolfheart) but it's a sacrifice she was willing to make to be a worgen. Although she's still scandalized that they don't have tails.
Self Defence - Regular lessons in a mixed-style martial art self defence class are her last significant time-sink, something that she started taking after reading about how an 'outed' therian had been savagely beaten. While she's not foolish enough to let casual acquaintances know of her true nature, she's also not willing to be caught defenceless if the worst should ever come to pass. She's not an expert, by any means (she only has the equivalent of a blue belt) but she's eager and still learning.
Virtues:
Loyal - Riley is fiercely loyal and protective to those she considers a part of her 'pack.' No sacrifice is too large, if it is for the greater good of the pack. She will defend weaker members against any foe, and will never outright disobey an order given by the alpha. Her kills go to the alpha first, and herself second.
Confident - One luxury of being a part of a pack is never doubting where you fit in - and the inherent confidence that comes with that knowledge. Riley knows her place, and knows what she has to do to climb in the ranks. Sure, she's not the alpha. But that's just fine, in her opinion. She trusts in the power of her alpha, and trusts in her own ability to make decisions when she's left to her own devices. What else could she possibly need?
Self-Disciplined - Maintaining the balance between school, her goals, her hobbies and her duties is something that Locke has grown extremely adept at through sheer force of will and discipline. She plays video games, but only after her RPs have been replied to. She RPs, but only after she'd done her sketch of the day. She draws something every day, but only after her housework is done. Her living space is clean and organized, but that is done after her schoolwork is complete. Everything has a time and a place within her life. Everything.
Charismatic - One could argue that Locke's inherent charisma is a natural offshoot of her confidence, and they'd probably be right. Because she never doubts herself, she never gives anyone else a reason to doubt her either. And thanks to years of keeping her therian nature under wraps (since the rest of society would just lump her in with those dirty furries) she's become well-practiced in speaking eloquently about almost any topic. The best way to fit in with the 'norms' is to act like one of them, right?
Flaws:
Vicious - Although she doesn't express this particular trait casually, there's something a little off about her. It is not enough to just make someone hurt - Riley wants to make them suffer. She is often needlessly cruel, both physically and emotionally, and takes things far further than they should ever be taken. If not under direct orders to the contrary, she will always choose the most damaging course of action. It's nothing personal, really. She just likes the sounds people make when they are in pain. When she's caught in this behaviour - and it's pretty inevitable that she will be caught eventually - she apologizes as needed, but clearly feels no remorse. This has cost her jobs in the past, particularly when working with children. There may have been an unfortunate incident with a Nanny-Cam, some rope, a dirty sock, and the muffled screams of a child. Maybe.
Disrespectful - This may seem to conflict with her generally loyal nature, but her loyalty comes with a price - it must be earned*. If she is placed under the command of someone she considers to be inferior to herself, she will make frequent attempts to undermine their authority and prove that she should be given their rank. In her opinion the wolf way of dealing with things is far cleaner. Just challenge them, win, and be done with it. Whenever possible, she does pursue that route... but for some reason the law seems to frown on duels with your teacher. What a shame, she'd been getting straight A's in that school before 'the incident' forced her to transfer.
* Once her loyalty has been earned, it is unquestioned and absolute.
Cocksure - Yes, it is possible to be too confident. Locke doesn't quite understand that concept, unfortunately, and tends to rub people the wrong way when she goes on and on about her capabilities and how sure she is that things will work out just fine. It's always a surprise when people tell her that she's arrogant - how can she be arrogant when she's just speaking the truth? - and when her overconfidence is rewarded with failure, well... perhaps it would take a normal person down a notch, but Riley never seems to learn from that particular mistake. She will go up against impossible odds and bite off more than she can chew (so to speak) because she honestly believes she can handle it.
Impatient - As a product of the internet age, Riley is accustomed to getting what she wants, when she wants it. Having to wait for the rest of the group to settle down before a class or meeting can start? Torture. Group work with members who can't keep up or are disorganized? Agonizing. Being ordered by her superior to wait, or stand wait? Excruciating. Her impatience has gotten her in trouble before, and will continue to get her in trouble. She just can't keep from tapping her toes and trying to rush people. If she was in charge this would be done already!
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: Dark golden/orange, as feral-looking as possible (within the bounds of reason; she could be wearing contacts if it is easier to justify that way)
Hair: Black, shaggy in that just-got-out-of-bed-and-my-hair-still-looks-good-somehow kind of way. Mid-length, could use some leather ties / feathers / wolf teeth dangly bits if you think it'd look nice.
Face: Angular face, strong features. Still feminine, but in a more severe way. No freckles, no birth marks. Slightly darker-than-average skintone (she's got some native heritage, just enough to claim it legally and get educational/tax discounts but not enough to actually be on a reserve or have any idea of what her heritage actually means).
Clothes:
Civvies: Tight jeans, steel-toed boots, a fur-trimmed leather jacket if it's cold enough out. Comfortable/practical clothes, but cut to fit nicely.
On the 'job': see Negaverse uniform info below.
