 Since setting out from home, Kepo had endured many adventures. He was not, by nature, an adventurous hyena. He liked things to be in order. He liked things to be right. Being forced to fend for himself and exposed to many horrible new people had made Kepo a bit more tolerant and patient ... but only a bit.
Kepo had met many interesting ladies. Some of them were even suitable. His quest for more ladies to add to his clan would never end. He had to prove himself better than his revolting younger cousin Kele, and to that end he would try to convince as many lovely strong females to join his clan as possible. Then all would acknowledge him as a male of true worth, perhaps even as worthy as a princess. He could be an honorary princess, maybe. Yes.
Right now Kepo was relaxing under a shady tree, thinking idly of his ambitions. Maybe he would even bring home some pups ... although as far as he knew he hadn't successfully spawned any. A whole bunch of rowdy girls that looked just like him. That would be perfect. His mother and aunt would be so proud! Of course, the idea of actually raising his own pups was a little dreadful ... but the praise he would receive for bringing them would be wonderful. The hyena was lost in his own happy daydreams, fairly oblivious to any creatures that might lurk nearby.

 Pinakip never lurked. She was the daughter of a god. Why should she fear anyone or anything when she had that connection?
So she was walking through the tall golden grass and sniffing about for a meal and her sister whichever came first and enjoying the day. Thank Father there's a breeze. Kinang, her sister, had disappeared again. It was strange how often she'd been doing that lately. She caught the scent of another hyena, but it was a male and she didn't think he had any food with him, wouldn't hurt to walk past. If he approached her she'd share the wonders of her Father with him.

It was hard to come down from his daydream, but the scent and sound of a female hyena nearby finally did it. Kepo blinked, wondering how she had gotten so close without alerting him. He rose to his feet casually, not wanting to appear too eager if she had already caught sight of him. He couldn't see her ... oh, there she was.
And she was beautiful.
Kepo approved of white manes and tails, and he had never seen such impressive stripes on a strange female. She was ... gorgeous! She looked perfect! All at once Kepo was wide awake and utterly delighted. He couldn't let this female just stroll away. "Hello!" Kepo called happily.

And there he was, popping out of nowhere. She appreciated that he was striped as well, surely a sign of favor from her Father. (She'd decided this because both her and Kinang have stripes)
"Oh, Hello, my Father must be watching out for me. By any chance have you seen another female hyena around? I'm looking for my sister." Better get that out of the way before seeing if he was a heathen or not. After all even heathens had eyes and senses of direction that could lead her to her sister.

This female was awfully chatty for someone he'd only just met, but he could deal with it. Kepo would deal with a lot for a female as stunning as this stripey one. "No, I haven't seen any other hyenas," Kepo said, his mind working quickly. Father - that was bad. Sister ... potentially bad, but could be good. Maybe he could bring both of them back home! Two amazing stripey females! "I'm Kepo," he said, hoping that the stripey female would give him her name in return.

She sighed. Where could Kinang have wandered off to? Really? It's not like she bothered with evangelizing...
"I'm Pinakip." She sat down to ponder where to look next, Father probably wouldn't be pleased that she was distracted from spreading his glory but she was worried about her sister.

Well, that was a start. She seemed a bit put out now, but at least she had given him her name. Kepo sidled over closer to her and sat next to her as though they were old friends. It was clear that he would have to take the lead in this seduction.
"I've never seen a hyena as beautiful as you, Pinakip," Kepo sighed, glancing at Pinakip. Well. Except for his aunt. But considering hyenas outside his family, his statement was true. "You must be a queen." Flattery. He hoped she wasn't a queen.

Pinakip's thoughts stuttered to a stop. No male had ever complimented her like that. He'd called her beautiful, the most beautiful. And he'd called her a queen... She looked stunned and her jaw dropped a moment.
"Oh! Thank you! But of course I'm beautiful, my father's a god." Perfect lead in. "My sister and I are his scions."

It was gratifying that this female liked his compliments. Kepo had met some females that didn't like such direct flirting. He hadn't yet learned to be subtle.
The comment about gods washed over his head entirely. Kepo's family was generally pretty scornful of such notions. The moon was their good luck, not some trumped up lion gods. He had never met a hyena that believed in gods, and assumed she was simply flattering her father. It seemed a little weird for a female to speak so highly of her father, but Kepo could roll with it. Maybe his someday cubs would speak of him so. Yeah. They probably would. Come to think of it, he was sure that they would.
"How nice," Kepo said, unable to think of something better to say. "It must be wonderful to be a scion." He had no idea what a scion was, but she seemed pretty proud of it.

Splendid! The male hyena was interested!
"Oh yes, being a scion is wonderful. My sister and I travel around spreading the wonderful news about our father." Kepo was sitting awfully close. She shifted her weight away from him so she could look at him better. "Do you believe in any gods?"

Kepo was a bit disappointed when the female shifted away, but he relaxed when she turned to look at him. Of course, she was just moving so that she could admire him more. He was a very handsome hyena, after all. She was probably thinking what a wonderfully glamorous match they would make.
"That's great," Kepo said, putting as much enthusiasm in his voice as he could muster. He didn't know why female hyenas would want to tell people about their father, but hey. She was hot. He wasn't so sure about the theological turn the conversation was taking, and shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know about any gods. My mom and auntie say we don't need silly things like that."

Pinakip gasped in horror. "You don't know [i[]anything about the gods?! And they certainly are not silly! My father came to my mother as a hyena and my sister and I are his priestesses. Well, me more then my sister but anyway surely the idea of a hyena god out there watching for hyena interests is a wonderful thing!? Enough of purely lion gods. You seem to be an intelligent male." She reached out a paw and placed it over his and peered at him ernestly. "Surely you see the value of a hyena god?"

Kepo did not know anything about gods, but he wasn't about to tell this female that. Obviously, she was passionate about them ...
And, of course, she was sexy.
He squirmed, not really wanting to talk about something his clan disapproved of, but at the same time not wanting Pinakip to remove her paw from his. "Well ... I guess you're right. Probably if there were hyena gods, we would worship them." He brightened up a bit. Yes, that seemed sensible. "As long as they were proper gods and not riff-raff."

She positively beamed at him! "Of course my father's not riffraff! Oh I'm so glad you see the potential of him!" Her tail was wagging and she looked like she might lick him just out of shear joy that he agreed with her and saw the light as it were. "I knew you were intelligent, striped hyenas usually are. Stripes are lucky you know." She still hadn't removed her paw.

Really, Kepo didn't know how he felt about gods. He had never considered the idea of hyena gods. It seemed ... well, not too offensive, but certainly outlandish. But he seemed to have pleased the pretty female, and that was enough. More than enough, actually, as she praised his incredible handsomeness and vast intelligence. Kepo drew himself up a little, smiling. She was a little bit odd, but obviously very intelligent herself. Some hyena ladies didn't appreciate his superiority.
"Thank you," Kepo said smugly, feeling quite pleased. "I agree. Striped hyenas are definitely better than other hyenas. And much better-looking, as well."
