The crocodile goddess was, as usual, busy. Today she was very busy taking a nap. She had spent the morning lurking beneath the waters of the river, waiting for something delicious to come along. After snacking on a young zebra, she had crawled out and flopped down on the sandy bank, her tail still trailing in the water. The sun was warm. The sand was warm. Life was good.
Mlinzi rarely bothered to remain alert. There wasn't much that bothered her. One heavy foot lay on the zebra, idly guarding it in her sleep. Anyone trying to steal the rest of her lunch would be sorry. But she wasn't worried about it. Few animals were foolish enough to interfere with her.
If there were any animals foolish enough to pester her, the plover perched between her ears would warn her.
