This is to inform those of us who are not in guitar retail. Cables are marked up at least 3 times what the store pays. NEVER go into a store and just buy a cable. Wait untill you buy something else than ask them to throw in as much cable as they can. This works especially good at guitar center. Really there you should never pay what they are asking for it. Always get a deal. Last time I went and bought pick-ups I got $350 set for $200 Because I told the guy I was on a budget. Always try to save money.

You, sir, are a wise man.
I save money (or try to) as much as i can.
When i bought my 60's model Fender STD squire strat the other day, i told the guy i only had enough money to buy the guitar, and, upon closer inspection of the strings, said that i was slightly dis-satisfied with their condition. so the re-strung it, tuned it, gave me another set of strings and a "venom" cable for free!!! FREE!!!

I always get free cables if I spend more than say... 50 dollars. I try to make sure that they are Monster Cables so if they ever break, I just get a new one.

Someone once told me if they don't throw in a cable for free, give the salesman puppy eyes and you'll get lucky. However, I'm buying my first electric online. I'm getting a tiny Pignose portable amp, so I figure 6 feet of cable is good enough to start.. It's about $3.50.
Is this too short of a cable, or too expensive? I'm not one for knowing prices yet, so I'd appreciate an experienced buyer's opinion.

I just get my boys over at the place i always go to hook me up, i buy so much stuff there (They know me by name, know my preferences on strings, picks, cables, and gear and all that lol). Soemtimes they sell me guitars at 50$ more than what they pay. (I Got a ESP M-1000 for 450$, they list at 1299$ \m/)

I get free s**t all the time. I've known the guy that owns the shop i go to for a while now, and i'll walk in to get a couple packs of strings and walk out with a 6ft cable, fistful of picks, strap, etc. Nothing over 10$, but free stuff nonetheless. I even got him to knock the price of an $80 Boss BD-2 down to about 30$ ninja

I thought the first post was a little agressive eek However yeah, if you are dishing out some money, a music store will throw things in and take the prices down, because it's service like that that will keep people coming back for more. And ultimately, you end up making more money that way.
I went into Better Music (the guys that work there rock) for a Boss DS-1 pedal, got the pedal and the AC adapter much cheaper than the original price, a 20ft lead for free (!!!), and a crapload of plectrums. biggrin
