The orange lioness hummed happily to herself. Not only was she back home, but helping out. There seemed to be so much to do. The pride had fallen on hard times when she'd left unable to face what was happening. Now she felt it was her job to help make it right. The pride was weak from its ordeal. Very few lions were able to hunt.
She spent her days hunting and chasing off evil rogues. On the other paw, Etain searched for lions, any specie really, to join and strengthen the pride. It was vital for her to see them grow strong. Her long time friend, Erufu, was busy today so she was out by herself. She had spent the morning roaming the edges of their territory.
At noon, Etain had stopped for a long drink and a nap in the shade by a watering hole. Now laying comfortably in the shade she waited for the heat to abate slightly.

Mokovu travelled through the heat, it was growing temperatures all day. He licked his lips at the thought of some fresh water. After walking quite some distance he noticed water. Without thinking he quickly made his way over to the hole and started drinking. Not even noticing the orange lioness near by or the pride scent markers. He was so dehydrated that every lap he could feel replenish his body, already he felt stronger.
He lapped eagerly away thinking of the long journey he had ahead of him. It wasn't gonna be a easy nor a smooth one but he had to travel it. In his heart he knew he would find things on the way and something special once he got there. He didn't know what but he hoped that whatever it was it would help him find his ways. He has been so lost since the day the storm hit and he was lost as a cub, he just wanted to find home.

While it was unusual, it certainly wasn't unheard of for a lion to travel during this hot part. So when she saw exactly that, Etain continued to lay there with her green eyes the only part of her moving. He seemed quite thirsty the way he lapped up the water.
"Take your time drinking. You don't want to make yourself sick in this heat." She said quietly so as not to upset him too much. With as hot as it was, it wasn't wise to drink too much too fast. Personal experience had taught her that.

Mokovu has never been so happy to feel the coolness of water down his throat. He drank till he was certain he had more then plenty but was careful not to drink it to fast but savour every lap. That is when he heard a voice, it startled him for he thought he was alone. Yet here was a lioness watching him, he turned to get a better look at her. He saw a orange pelt with black and cream markings. it was different but yet very beautiful combination of colors.
"Hello there"
He said with a friendly tone as he flicked his tail in greetings. He wondered what had brought her ought to these hot dry lands. He was just trying to get somewhere and he had to pass through this land to get there.

"Greetings Lion. I'm Etain." She grinned. It was a good time for a nap or chat in the comfort of the shade. "Wont you get out of the sun and heat? There's plenty of shade here."
Etain looked him over. She didn't feel at all threatened by him. In fact he seemed rather pleasant. He also had the feel of a lion going somewhere. She hoped he could take a break for awhile.

He looked at her with a friendly smile, Etain. Her name suited her well for some odd reason. He walked over to where she offered him shelter from the sun and heat. She was very friendly considering he was a random male. She must have good judgement.
"A pleasure Etain, I am Baridi Mokovu, call me Mokovu. Thank you for the shade it is deathly hot out there"
He said as he got comfortable enough to tuck his legs underneath him. He had time to spare he was in no rush it was just the idea of going back to his old lost home that had him rushing. But he felt happy to take a break, to calm his nerves again and enjoy some nice company. Maybe even make a new friend.

The lioness nodded to him as he came over. She was going to have some company during her rest today. That pleased her; it could get boring watching just small critters run around.
"Mokovu. That's an unusual name. Not from around here." Green eyes appraised him. "Be you just passing through, or perhaps looking for something?"
She chuckled. "Indeed it does! That's why I often rest about this time. You'll cook your paws out there for sure."
Etain gave a happy stretched then scanned the horizon. Nothing big around that she could see.

Mokovu eyed her carefully but respectfully. She was smart, he could tell, she was clearly aware he was a traveller. He wondered how she could tell he was looking for something.
"Indeed I have been Travelling all over but now I am heading to the home I remember as a cub. I have to see what has become of it"
He said to her explaining the path he was taking. He was eager to go but fear still struck him hard as he thought of what has become of them. He wondered if they would even recognize him or accept him after so long. He had just been a cub last time he was there. Even so with all the doubts he had to go to be sure. He couldn't leave without being certain.
"It's so odd being somewhere so hot I usually tried to stick somewhere that was rather cool, what bring you about these lands?"
He asked questioning where she was from. She sounded like she knew these lands fairly well but she didn't seem like she lived here. He wondered where her family was or where she was from, he would find out surely he was sure. He was just pleased to have met her, she made great company.

Etain smiled. She understood about going home.
"I see. May your journey be exciting. Returning home can always be a pleasure and a pain. Why did you leave as a cub? If you don't mind my asking." Hopefully his would be more pleasure than pain. Etain knew hers could have been much worse than it had been.
She chuckled. "I'm rather use to the heat. It'd be odd for me to be someplace cold." She laughed again and tilted her head.
"Ah these are my home. My pride lives nearby." She gestured slightly with a paw from where she lay at the lands around them.

Mokovu was not at all upset that she asked. In fact he was more surprised, he had never had anyone actually ask him about it for a very long time. In fact the last person to ask was his first love, he wondered what had become of her now. He hasn't seen her since he left her at her pride boarder. Things just wouldn't work.
"I was really young when I was separated. You see I explored to far from the den without supervision and a storm hit, they come fast and without notice in the mountains. I tried to run from the storm but it didn't help. I could not see where I was going or where I was so I hid in a cave I stumbled upon. A couple nights I spent in there thirsty and hungry, when the storm finally ended I could not find my way home...So I spent the time living on scraps and travelling alone"
He said to her explaining his story. I felt good to finally tell someone his story, it has been a while and he bottled it up for so long. He finally looked at her as she continued to speak, he didn't mind the heat but it just wasn't like home to him.
"I am glad you have found your home, I hope to find mine soon"
He said with a fair smile. she seemed happy here and the thought of that happiness at home made him eager and even more determined. But he did not know what laid at home..he could only prepare for the worse but pray for the best.

Etain was pleased and sad at the same time. Pleased because he chose to confide his story to her; sad because of that same story. It must have been very hard for him to loose his family at such a young age. Indeed, she'd been much older when tragedy struck her pride and it had been terrible for her.
"I'm so sorry to hear that. I do understand about storms. We have the washes flood suddenly when no rain has fallen here. It's something we must be careful of. I am glad you survived that storm."
She paused to wash her ear. "I am truly grateful to be home again. No matter where I went or who I met, this was always where I belonged. I think you understand that in your own way." She looked at him. "The best of luck to you on returning home safely."

Mokovu could see pain in her eyes, ether it was from his story or a personal thought. He tried to smile to not bring such a dark mood about them.
"Don't be sorry I think everything happens for a reason, and if i die I was meant to die and go to the stars to live. I can't imagine what floods are like..to die by water..hmm"
His eyes wandered into his mind at the though of death. To many it was feared but to him it was just a part of life and destiny, it's how it worked.
"I do understand what you say and I truly appreciate your words of luck, this will be the journey my life has been waiting for. May you also always be happy in your home"
He said with a faint smile as he nodded. This was probably goodbye but hopefully not for the last time. He would hate to never see her again.

Etain saw him smile and returned it. "I think that trials make us stronger. We can become better lions for what we go through." She wondered how her lift might have been if the tradegy never struck her pride, and she had never left. All that experience she got out on her own would never have happened.
"I wouldn't give up so easily on life." She smiled. "They can be so fast and rough. The water comes from no where, and just sweeps through. Don't ever sleep in one, K?" Etain twitched her ear to send a fly off.
"Thank you. I can't tell you how happy I am to be home too." She laughed softly. "Don't give up on your journey Mokovu."

Mokovu nodded his head at her words. She was very wise and he had enjoyed her company. Perhapos one day in the future hey would meet, only time could tell.
"I will never give up! I am on a path and my paws will never stray from it"
His smile was weak, he always hated goodbyes but they had to be said and done. He did not know what awaited him in the mountains. It could be his happy ending or a devastating ending. He would have to see.
"Well I think it is time, and maybe one day you'll travel to the mountains. If you do please stop and say hi"
He said his final words with a curt nod and smile as he turned and started to make his way home. He gave one last glance back and flicked his tail goodbye.
FINISHED.
