Do any of your schools have full/symphony orchestras? I'm in the one at my school, and it's really cool to have one at the school, but we can't play extremely challenging stuff because we only meet once a week.

We have a full symphony orchestra...
Although the band program's hurting for horn players and oboes (we don't have ANY) so that's been REALLY frustrating the orchestra director. I've been considering taking up horn, but I understand that the partials are more difficult to master than other brass instruments, and I've only played the mellophone for like two months for corps (although my teacher also plays horn). We have only three horns at my school. One's a freshman and never practices, but at least she's showing up to orch rehearsals. One's a junior, and while he's pretty good, he never shows up because of tennis practice or mock trial. And one's a senior, but she's anti-sit-down ensemble, so she's also anti-orchestra. :
As for oboes, we've had four go through the system since I was a freshman. Three of them quit going into their sophomore years (two are seniors currently, one's a junior). The fourth moved to a university campus high school (which has a "better" music program, but not necessarily). One of them (the junior who quit) is coming back to play with orchestra, but he's hardly ever there and it doesn't sound like he's practiced in a while. : There's one girl trying to play oboe currently, but it doesn't seem like she practices and she's not willing to get a teacher...

I'm going to sound like a spoiled rich school girl, but we have a fabulous music program. Though we have NO funding, we have some rocking volunteers and donate-rs. We also made lots of ensembles to play at random places to raise funds. And because of all the money we have made together, it is said we have one of the best music programs in the North Bay. I hope I gave some good fund-raising ideas, though. smile
