Raised in poverty within the Empire’s capital city, Shikutu has fostered an unwavering hatred for the “holy” empire since childhood. His mother died about two years after he was born from a mysterious illness that spread through the poor district. His Father died not long after, after a trial convicting him of shouting at a noble sentenced him to death. In order to simply survive, Shikutu was forced to beg and steal, which brought him almost constantly in trouble with the law. One day, while being chased in the nearby forest by the guards, he fell through a hole into ancient-looking ruins. Deciding that it would be best to stay while the guards continued looking, Shikutu began to explore. Eventually, he came to hidden passage in one of the rooms, residing within was a black longbow with three obsidian stones embedded into the wood. Although he couldn’t find any arrows, he decided to keep it, and continued exploring. After a few hours, he walked into a massive cavern. In the center of the cavern stood a single stone pillar, about 4 feet high. On top of it, was an egg-shaped stone of pure obsidian, like those on his new bow, and on a small shelf lay an ordinary looking gauntlet. After trying a few times to pick up and move the rock, which refused to budge, he picked up the gauntlet and put it on. He tried moving the rock one more time, but now, the moment he touched it, it began to crack, and a small, baby black dragon crawled out. Shikutu took the baby girl with him and raised her in the forest on his own. He named her Maerwynn, after a dragon in one of the tales his father had told him before he died. As Maerwynn grew up, she slowly became larger, though stayed relatively small compared to the dragons he saw in the empire. After a number of years, the two left the forest to seek out the Town of Guiro, their minds set on helping to destroy the Holy Empire.
