Ancientheart had been on her own for some time now, she often thought of her family for long ago in the rouge lands. There were some good memories and bad, as often most things were. It had been a few weeks here in Peke’Na and Isabis, now known as Ancientheart had been settling in quite well. With the help of Tribalwind, she had a current place of residents but the past week Ancientheart had been getting the itch. The itch of change and she wanted to make her own home and live there. Not that she wasn’t grateful to Tribalwind, she just wanted a place to call her own and to be alone sometimes to enjoy the freedom of one’s own space. That morning she awoke with fresh thoughts and new dreams as well possibilities. Stretching her body she noticed Tribalwind had been gone for some time now by the shape of her bedding and she had been kind enough to leave some food out for Ancientheart to enjoy. Smiling she ate the fruits and rabbit in front of her.
Blinking as the sun shone in her eyes Ancientheart took a deep breath of fresh air once she made her way out of Tribalwind’s den. Looking down she noticed, finally, that her paws were healing at a rapid rate all thanks to Tribalwind’s or Kokuro’s medicine paste.
“ Hello Ancientheart! How are you this fine morning my dear?”
Isabis turned to the voice and saw her friend. “ Hello Tribalwind! Thank you for the morning meal! It was very much appreciated!” Smiling she made her way over to Kokuro. “ I am well thank you for asking, I slept like a babe last night. Your den is very comfortable, the soil on Peke’Na land is much more lush then the rogue lands or so I have been noticing.”
“ Not a problem at all my friend, I am glad to see you are settling in well in Peke’Na. I am also glad you like my den.” Kokuro laughed at the soil remark, only a den digger could appreciate the quality of dirt. “ I was just stopping by the village for a little while before heading out once more to scout the area. There has been some talk of strangers passing our lands, not friendly from what I heard. So do be careful if you head off anywhere today, alright?” Concern flooded her voice as well as her expression.
“ You worry so. I will be fine Tri and in all honesty I plan to find a home today as well. I don’t feel right taking up the space of your home and kindness for so long.” She watched as her friend opened her mouth to argue. “ Bahbah! I know you don’t mind, but I do. It doesn’t sit right with me and my beliefs. I am very grateful to you but I must find my own path now.”
A male voice from far off called Tribalwind’s name causing her friend to sigh. “ That would be the scouting party, they’ve well we’ve all been up in arms lately because of the possibility of attack.” Kokuro shook her head in frustration. “ Well, please do be careful and at least come back tonight if you found an area in which you wish to live. Then the next day we can work on building the house together, it is safer that way. Finding a den or ones home usually takes a bit I am just warning you. Some Peke’Na are very territorial about their areas, and those areas can be quite large. Especially if the female wild dogs have babies.”
“ Thank you I will take your words in to consideration while traveling this day.” Ancientheart nodded her farewells and respect. “ Good luck with your duties today and may the Peke’Na gods look over you and your crew.” She watched as Tribalwind spoke her farewells and run off to the males as well as females waiting for her. Ancientheart stood there for sometime before letting out an excited breath. “ Alright! Time to start the day and all that jazz!” She giggled to herself as she walked around Peke’Na enjoying the weather. It was not to cold or to hot, it was absolutely perfect weather. Soon morning gave way to afternoon and still she had no luck finding the perfect area in which to settle down. Frustrated emotions started to take over her positive attitude. “ Boy, Tribalwind sure was right about it taking a while. Finding a permanent place to live it quite difficult indeed...” Throughout the day Ancientheart had been chased away from her first home that she was considering, at the time she did not know a family of wild dogs lived in the area. She also had almost gotten stung from a beehive, flirted on by a overly friend single male wild dog, and almost got overly familiar with a maned dog look for a mate.
She was losing hope and faith rather quickly. The sun nearly setting and she was just about to call it quits when it had seemed fate decided to give her a friendly guide. Just to her right was an absolutely perfect place, stone and soil mixed with vegetation. Cautiously and not getting her hopes up, she looked around for any sign of other wild dogs living in the area. The place looked like it had been abandoned for some time now. Letting out a squeal of happiness once she sniffed and scouted, it was empty. No one had been her for months possibly years. Looking at the sky, she realized the sun had given way to the night sky. Stars were shining and the moon itself seemed to be highlighting her future home. Smiling softly, she began to think of the future. “ One day this den will be filled with love, pups, and happiness I just know it!” That thought in mind she marked her territory and made her way back to tell Tribalwind the great news! Her new home would be fine for at least one more night after all.
END.
