With a soft sigh, the mulberry mare wound her way through the trees. She had no destination in mind, wandering was a frequent enough past-time that she'd gotten accustomed to letting her hooves do the thinking. It often turned out better than when she 'planned' things anyway. When wandering, many marvelous things could happen, the least of which resulted in making new friends. On occasion it got her into trouble -and once the heart of a raging wildfire- but for the most part it was quite harmless. As long as she kept a careful eye out for danger, she'd be safe enough.

Blue hooves rhythmically striking the ground as she picked up a trot, the feather and mask-marked mare wound her way through the trees. Her sister was away today, soaring through sky or over sea, which meant she had the freedom to explore the forests. Kaishara didn't much care for the closeness of the woods, which meant that on their days together they spent the hours wading through meadows filled with flowers and happily-bubbling streams. Once in awhile they cantered until the ground became sand and the water tasted of salt, stretching far out of sight in an expanse of endless blue.

They hadn't had much luck in meeting the legendary children of the sea, but hope made them continue to search. For the moment, Masque would have settled for a friend of any sort beneath the protective cover of the forest... Be they horned or winged or the size of a butterfly.

Altering her stride into a prancing gait, Masque pushed away her wandering thoughts and instead picked up a cheerful tune her father had long-ago taught her and Kaishara. It made her laugh to think of him singing it, but it had become one of her favorites.

"Little bread-and-butterflies kiss the tulips
And the sun is like a toy balloon
There are get-up-in-the-morning glories
In the golden afternoon

There are dizzy daffodils on the hillside
Strings of violets are all in tune
Tiger lilies love the dandelions
In the golden afternoon

There are dog and caterpillars and a copper centipede
Where the lazy daisies love the very peaceful life
They lead...

You can learn a lot of things from the flowers
For especially in the month of June
There's a wealth of happiness and romance
All in the golden afternoon."
