
Rusted iron gates barely clinging to their hinges welcomed Amelia into the resting place of the two legers. All around her odd stones rose from the ground, marking where a corpse lay decaying in its mortal bed. Beneath her feet grass shriveled and sizzled as the flames engulfed each blade, racking them up to the number of dead. Glowing green eyes scanned the surrounding area, taking in the gnarled old trees appearing to be devoid of hydration and tenderness and the mist collecting on the grounds. Her mother often came here in search of something long gone, of someone long gone. After her first time coming up here with her mother and sister Amelia found a strange yearning to remain here, feeling somewhat at peace around this deathly silence. Alas, both her mother and sibling desired to leave this gray place after staying for only a moment. Her gaze wandered through every nook and cranny in search of the pumpkin patch her mother had described. Though she knew nothing was there she couldn’t help but to keep searching, looking for the one thing that would connect her to her absent father. Often times she could tell she looked the most like Nightmare merely by observing the way her mother would look at her.
With a sigh glowing orbs turned skyward noting the brightly shining moon and stars above. Often at night Amelia would sneak away to a place such as this when the sun fell and the moon took her place in the darkened sky. This one eerie place above all others allowed her to think clearly and made her feel truly at home. She loved both her mother and her sister but neither of them faced the differences that she did. Having legs mostly of bone that were also on fire was not something either of them had to deal with. Even her glowing eyes sent shivers down the spines of her grandfather and grandmother. She was so very different from any of her family members and she knew it. Each time she looked at them a little piece of her wished that her father had whisked her basket away instead. At least he would have been able to help her to understand why she was what she was. A creature…
