Although it's strange, I see nothing that far out. It's basic computer engineering to design a game where you CAN'T cheat and you know how to play. I just don't see the fun in a game that plays itself.

This is a perfect example of technology being abused. How is it being abused? The new monopoly game is being set up to teach the next generation that digital currency is normal. That obedience to a computer is normal. That allowing a computer to decide your fate is normal, that scanners probing everything is normal. It is designed to inculcate a new system of thinking. Perhaps you are too young to understand why this is a bad thing, but rest assured, it is.

Perhaps you are too young to understand why this is a bad thing, but rest assured, it is. Too young? Rest assured, my age will stay as an anonymity from you to keep things fair.
You might be looking way too subliminally into this. Like how fox news is saying rape will increase just because the new game "Bullet Storm" has a few sexual phrases.
If you read the topic, which I hope you did, it will give perfectly good reasons as to why. Reasons that make sense. I mean, monopoly is going to get old in the age of technology. Board games can only go so far until they need electronics. You can only make enough special edition monopoly games until no one wants them. So, how do you change it up? Simple, make a game where you can't cheat and it adds a fresh new style of being able to play. Sure, I find it useless, but the game seems to want to aim at the younger generation. The ones that can't play monopoly. Plus, it will get them adjusted to numbers in the future in school.
or will printing numbers with dollar signs start to make kids think we can only rule with big bank accounts?

Personally, I think it's bullshit that they started making Monopoly games that have calculators. And they wonder why the kids are so stupid when compared to the youth of other countries.
If your kid can't count money they shouldn't be playing monopoly. Managing money and assets is sort of the whole point of the game.
That's really my only issue with modernizing games. All the old board games seem to be getting revamped. Only a matter of time before Ouija comes with flashing LEDs and an EMF detector built-in.
EDIT: After reading the whole article, it appears to not only encourage a decline in math skills but in reading skills as well. Hasbro is also catering to the short attention span rather than trying to encourage people to pay more attention. I think it also fosters a reliance on some authority to tell you what to do, rather than deciding or thinking for yourself.
I don't think it's an Illuminati plot, but it's certainly not something to be excited about from my perspective. I must say that the last line of the article is a little worrying though, almost like foreshadowing in a novel or something.

Now they're wanting to take out the educational part so it can appeal to the lazy children of our generation. My stepsisters loved playing Monopoly, and especially Cluedo (which helps with problem solving).

And here I thought the whole point of the game was to make deals to swindle the other players... I play a deadly game of monopoly. I convinced my friends to give me immunity on their properties as I just "Roll the dice" and go around with one estate. I won that game just because I convinced the others I was no harm to them and just wanted to go around the board.

Just like real capitalism!
