Home Setting: A small grove of ancient rowan trees near the base of a mountain, they grow closely in a half circle so their branches meet and entwine overhead creating a dome of thickly interwoven branches. The light, filtered through wide leaves, is a rich green gold. The ground within forms a shallow bowl covered with a thick bed of soft grass and scattered wildflowers. The clearing backs up against the base of a cliff, jutting out of the bottom is a ledge of dark granite overgrown with woody briers. Bubbling out from under the rocks on one side of the ledge is a small spring that pools in the center of the clearing. Tiny colorful fish dart in and out among the weeds. Carved into the cliff just under the ledge, half hidden by thick growth is a shallow natural cave with smooth walls and a sandy floor. The world was dark... warm... and tight. Whereas the tiny filly's sanctuary of wicker and paint had been her sacred home for weeks upon weeks, she could no longer stand the tight bunching of the material around her. It was no longer comfortable and soft, and the hard edges seemed to dig into the strange appendages on her back. She twitched, her head seeking an opening as a hatchling sought a way out of its egg. A tiny sigh emitted from her mouth as she pushed against the top of her enclosure, and with a sudden crack of wicker, light flooded her eyes and she toppled out into the world.
She sat in a heap on the soft grass for a moment, temporarily blinded by the sudden brightness. Her heart clenched in fear--this world was too big! Too bright! And... and too full of noises and scents! It was so much different from her soft bed of wicker.
But then she opened her crimson eyes and focused on the scenery about her. Water... trees... grass... rocks? And then her eyes rested on something impossibly huge, something that looked familiar and yet was alien to her newborn eyes. Something that breathed and stared at her with blinking eyes. Something with hair that floated gently on the breeze. Something with strange appendages on its back... she wandered what they were called.
It was then that she stood, her body drawn to the strong presence before her. Her legs wobbled uneasily at first, and her first steps were halting. But then she was near him, the large stallion that she had first glimpsed, and she beamed up at him with eyes that were too bright for one so young.
"Father!" she squeaked, and tried to n** at a piece of his hair. He was so big! She loved him already.

Ignis was basking in the warm golden glow of the sun next to the pool, pleased that he had located such a perfect place to raise the foals on such a short notice. It would have been out of the question to bring them up to his eyrie.
The baskets were nestled in the grass a couple of feet away, gleaming disconcertingly despite the fact that he had placed them in the shade. They made him nervous, why in the world Jessamine had chosen him to thrust this responsibility on he would never understand. He could never imagine leaving any child of his with a complete stranger, he almost expected to see her shining form emerge from the forest around him to reclaim her children. He had expected it for weeks now, ever since that memorable night, but she never came. He wished she would come. He was not ready to be a father, nevertheless he felt an overwhelming surge of what could only be described as tenderness every time he glanced at the baskets.
A strange noise roused him from his reverie, instinctually he cast a sideways glance towards where the baskets rested and was alarmed to see the wicker on one of the baskets bulging. His eyes widened with dismay, surely they weren't emerging now, he heard a sharp crack and the basket ruptured to reveal the smallest creature he had ever laid eyes on. He watched open mouthed as she-a daughter wobbled towards him on quivering legs and peered up at him with her vibrant eyes. His heart melted at the sound of her voice and he gently nuzzled her frail fuzzy body with a feeling of wonder. "My Sophia Rose" he rumbled softly.

He was resting comfortably enough still. Sound from outside the wicker was muted and dull, no light entered and he liked it that way for now. He was warm and felt safe, he had for weeks now. Unlike before, when there was constant jostling and angry noises outside, now they had been still for a long time and every once in a while someone came over and checked on them.
He knew it was warm outside the basket too, he could feel it heating up the inside. Hearing a cracking sound, he sighed. Was it time already? The basket was comfortable and he was reluctant to leave. Somehow though, he could sense his sibling had already liberated herself and decided he didn't want to be left behind. So with a reluctant push, he extended his legs and pushed his way out of the basket with a sharp crack of the wicker.
Blinking his eyes blearily he looked upon the outside with wonder. He spotted what could only be his sister and decided he would like to be over there. Trying to stand was a confusion of limbs but he eventually did it. An urge came upon him and he stretched out the four appendages on his back, just then realizing they were there.
Wobbling over to the huge being standing before him, he looked up at it and wondered if this was the one who had watched over them after all of the commotion from before. He blinked a few times before mumbling a wondering 'Daddy?'

A second crack signaled the arrival of his second charge. Ignis pulled his eyes away from the stunning little darling before him to see an equally dazzling foal stumbling towards him, tiny wings unfurled for balance. He gazed at him in awe, the foal had four wings, the top were not unlike his own but the bottom were a vibrant gossamer-like material unlike anything he had ever seen.
Sophia's wings were feathered like his own but a slightly different shape than Ignis' or her brothers. He couldn't help but wonder what sort of stock Jessamine came from, she was wingless although remarkable in her own way, the father was surely winged. He pressed his nose up against the tiny newcomers and smiled, "Welcome Adrian," He had decided upon their names weeks ago.
He stepped back from the pair, hardly able to believe that this was truly happening. "What in the world am I to do with the two of you?" He mused aloud. Maybe they were hungry... Now that he thought of it, what did exactly did babies eat?

Sophia grinned up at the large stallion, and her ears perked as he said something. Her name? Yes, she was sure that he had said her name. And it was such a beautiful name... better than any other filly in the world! Yes, she would have a beautiful name and a beautiful father! She leaned into his strong leg and giggled, rubbing her cheek on his soft fur.
And then her ears picked up the sound of another crackling wicker basket. She turned, ears pricked in curiosity, and then her smile returned tenfold as another small foal emerged from his basket. He was so handsome! And he too had those strange appendages on his back! But it seemed that one pair was different from the other... she longed to touch its alluring colors. Already the pride was welling in her tiny chest--a beautiful father, name, and brother!
"Brother!" she exclaimed, moving over to nudge his neck with her nose. She nipped at his hair playfully, her eyes following the smooth lines of his butterfly wings.
"You have such pretty back-things!" she squeaked, touching one with her nose. It was only then that she had the urge to stretch her own wings, and she gasped as they drifted into the corner of her vision. She turned a whole circle, trying to spot them better, but decided to stand still so that her head wouldn't feel so dizzy. Oh, what a wonderful world this was! And she had the pretty back-things too!

Hm. Adrian. His name, he liked it. As his sister came over to him he stared around him at the grass and the trees. His gaze trailed back up to the figure in front of him, his Daddy. He smiled happily at the thought of his little family and pranced to the side when Sophia nibbled on his hair and nosed her face in one of his wings. He wobbled a bit, still slightly unsteady on his legs.
"Ach, don't!" he whined, prancing behind Daddy for protection.
He peeked out from behind one massive leg and stuck his tongue out, his wings fluttering from the movement, unconsciously using them for balance already. He preened his hair, trying to straighten the cowlick Sophia had made.

(Sorry, didn't know Faith had posted before me. We must have posted at the same time lol)
Sophia gave a little pout as Adrian pranced away, but she didn't try to follow him. Instead she gazed at him with a silly smirk on her face as he tried to straighten the kink she had made in his soft hair. She giggled and stuck her tongue back out at him, enjoying the game.
"Haha, I got you! I got you!" she shouted, trying to jump up and down. The clumsy flop of her wings overbalanced her, and she went tumbling to the ground, nose rubbed in the soft grass. She humphed and pushed herself back up, a small frown now upon her face. She had just embarrassed herself! She must never do it again!
She turned to the big stallion then, her eyes looking up at his bright features. "Father!" she peeped, nudging him against the leg. "Will you play with me? Brother Adrian is no fun, and makes me fall down!" She pushed against the strong leg playfully, trying to get her father to move around. My, he was so big and heavy! She wandered if she'd get big someday too.

Adrian gave his new daughter a rather silly grin, bemused and completely taken aback as the truth finally set in, I'm a father! the thought was terrifying, wonderful, and truth be told he was in a complete state of shock as he allowed himself to be towed away by the diminutive Sophia Rose.
He glanced back at where they had left Adrian and chuckled as he watched his son rather desperately trying to straighten his shock of fiery hair. Hair as orange as Ignis' own. Sophia was the very image of his mother, breathtaking even at birth, the two seemed to be a bewildering twist of breeds. He couldn't even begin to imagine what their birth father must have looked like, he certainly hadn't seen any wings sprouting out of Jessamine when they'd met a fortnight past, then again, looks were often deceiving. There was no way to know what Jessamine's parents looked like. At any rate, it didn't matter. These foals belonged with him now, regardless of their bloodlines.
He knelt down and nudged Sophia's velvety cheek with his nose, "Those wings will probably take some getting used to, sweetheart" he assured her with a smile, "I think you should ask your brother if he wants to play to." he chided gently, "Now, what would you like to play?" His expression was slightly pained, as mush as he loved them, the prospect of providing continuous entertainment for the two bundles of seemingly endless energy was not something he looked foreword too. This parenting thing might be harder than it looked...
