What a beautiful morning it was to live in the canyon. Everything around seemed to have been revitalized by an unseasonal rainstorm that had hit the night before. As the lions large paw pads hit the ground, the soften soil beneath gave way. Although it was a bit mucky and slowing him down, he was quite enjoying himself while patrolling the boarder.
It had been awhile since he joined the Ligi, and so far he hadn't had any reason to use his powers. At first, he didn't like the idea of swearing his loyalty to Sahen, but it didn't take long for him to come to terms with the whole situation. It wasn't as bad as he had originally believed it to be, so far anyway. Every once in awhile when he could find a moment to himself, Tasso even enjoyed pretending to be a Ligi for another Shatkona. He imagined being a respected warrior of the pride, a title that the pride members wouldn't fear, but adored.
His tail began to wag as Tasso began to slip into a dream-like state, not paying much attention to anything around him. Oh, just the thought of all the Ladies who would come asking for his help. "Oh Tas!" They would sigh after he chased off a suspicious rogue who had prowled into the pride lands. He would would then wrap his paw around them like the knight in shinning armor he is. What a wonderful life that would be!

"You're daydreaming again, idiot," Jabari whispered as he dropped into pace with his larger brother. It kind of irritated him that Tas was bigger than he was, but he ignored that feeling for the most part. He worried about Tas almost as much as he worried about Kay. Being a ligi didn't suit either of them.
"Any rogues in the area?" he asked louder, in case there was someone spying on them. They were still too new as ligi to be completely trusted by the others, and even if they weren't, he would still be paranoid.

Tasso hearing a voice behind him turned around quickly, abruptly snapping back into reality.
"Well good morning to you too, Jabari." There was a look of dissapointment written all over his face. He should have been far more concerned about his brother sneaking up on him so easily, but that was the farthest thing from the young males mind.
"No rogues, no prey, no nothing. And quite honestly when I heard someone coming up from behind me, I was hoping it was a pretty damsel in distress who was coming to ask for my assistance." Though finding Jabari was the one who snuck up on him wasn't all that bad. At least it wasn't that Ligi lioness who he had run into a few days earlier; the pride definitely had it's share of shady characters.

"So sorry for having a mane," Jabari drawled with amusement. "And not needing assistance, but honestly, you need to focus better. We could be watched," he added more quietly. "And not by the pretty ladies you're so fascinated with. Or have you forgotten what we're here for?"
They were there to keep an eye on Sahen, but had Tasso even figured that out? He hadn't really had the chance to talk to his brothers since they started as Ligi. There would be an opportunity someday, and they needed to take advantage of it when it came without hesitation.

"I know, sorry." He mumbled his words as to assure anyone within earshot wouldn't be able to hear. He was a Ligi and while what that meant didn't always sit well in his gut, he realized that it was only a means to an end. Taking his duties seriously was apart of the plan and he did need to work on being more vigilant, but then again it was so easy for his cub-like mind to wander when he found himself alone.
"You seem to be adjusting well to all of this." It was true; out of the brothers, Jabari thrived in his new role. So much so that if Tasso hadn't known him, he would of thought him to be a loyalist to the Shatkona.
"I got to admit, all things considered being a Ligi has it's perks. It's nice being able to roam around the pride lands freely." His ears fell back a bit before continuing on. "I do miss the old days though." He didn't speak of what the old days consisted of; that would be far too risky. Althought it hadn't been so long ago, the time he would spend training with his Mom brothers seemed like just a distant memory.

"I know," Jabari said, a wealth of different emotions in the two words. He knew he fit in well--too well, as a Ligi. He knew how Tasso felt, as well. He wished to be back in the eye, draped in a pile of siblings, dreaming of one day being the chosen one. But this was the real world. They had to do what they could.
"But the old days are gone. Until..." He stopped himself, not daring to say it aloud. "Keep your mind on the task at hand. I'll do my best to be the one that... stands out," he added in a whisper.

"No no, I didn't mean it like that Jabari." Okay, so maybe he did. But he didn't mean to stir up the feelings in his brother that the subject seemed to bring up. "What I meant was that me and Kay need to work on being a little more convincing."
When he realized that one day things would eventually go back to normal, Tasso couldn't help but grin. He hoped that day would come sooner than he expected it to, but no matter how long it took it would all the sacrifices his little family will have made would be all worth it. He was listening intensely to his older brother, nodding in agreement until the very last few words. "Wait. Why are you trying to stand out?"

Jabari looked at him, a little smile playing on his face. "Because, brother, if one of us catches the Shatkona's eye, which do you think would be able to wiggle out of it the easiest? I'm not like you and Kay, I'm not honest. It's what's going to keep us all alive. One of you can be the chosen one," he added softly, knowing he was being daring. "I'll be the one that grabs his tail to keep him from moving while you rip out his throat."
Or if one got too much attention, they could wind up dead. He had no dreams of grandeur any longer. His brothers were far better prospects for the chosen. If one of them had to die, it was best if it were him.

Tasso's eyes grew wide as his brother spoke, visualizing such a scene in his head. Though he wondered why he didn't think of himself as being a prospect for the chosen one. Tasso often reacted as his heart told him, not thinking things out before doing them. Jabari on the other hand seemed to have a knack for getting the job done no matter what it took, and also had the foresight to think about what to do next. In his eyes, he thought the position of the chosen one would be better placed in Jabari's paws than his.
"Well I don't think it's really up to us. It's the gods who will tell us who will be the chosen one in the end.... but it's a good feeling to always have someone to cover your back. I hope you know I would do it for you guys as well." Tasso grinned again, it was not often now that he got to speak to his brothers so candidly. And still they had to speak in a whisper in case Sahen had ordered his long time loyalists to keep tabs on them.

A bittersweet smile pulled at Jabari's lips as he listened to his brothers. "See, another reason I won't be picked as the chosen one," he said quietly. "I have absolutely no faith in the gods. This is something we're going to have to do on our own."
His shoulder brushed against his brother's in a slight sign of affection. "How the hell did you get bigger than me when you're younger than I am?" he asked roughly, showing a side that he hardly ever showed others. "Do you know how irritating that is?"

Tasso admitted to himself that he wasn't the best listener when it came to the stories of old in the pride, but he knew the basics and had faith that if Tama had helped out once before, he had no reason not to trust him now.
"Actually no I don't, because I've always been bigger." He felt somewhat relieved when his brother turned to a lighter subject matter, and one he enjoyed talking about very much. "And you know what they say, bigger is always better!" Okay, so only he had talked to had ever said that besides himself, but in Tasso's mind that made no difference in it's legitimacy.
"I don't know how it happened big brother, but it makes for all the more Tas for the pretty ladies to love on." He was also not above speaking about himself in the 3rd person when he could squeeze it in.

"It also makes more Tas for faster lions to take down," Jabari said with a snort. "Man what an ego. How on Earth did our mother raise a child like you?" he teased. "And besides, your ladies are not going to like you too much while you're a Ligi, so all you're stuck with is a bulky body to slow you down."
It had been so long since he'd gotten the chance to do s**t-talking, he thought. It felt good. Like the first honest thing he'd said since becoming a Ligi.

"Only if said lion was strong enough to bring down such a force of nature." He spoke in a low roar as to not bring any attention on them, up until his brother made a comment about his ego. "Hey hey, Mama taught us all the same things... I just interpreted it a bit differently." Yes, that meant when anyone said he was the biggest or the strongest he made sure everyone knew it.
"Don't remind me! There has to be some girl in the pride who will keep me warm at night." He howled as he spoke about his plight. oh how difficult it was leading a life of an undercover warrior! What Jabari spoke was the truth; every girl he had approached always ended up running in the other direction when they find out he is a Ligi. Never mind the fact that he was something of an intimidating figure to run into to begin with, but surely it had to be the title.
"So, have you had any luck?" If he couldn't find a lioness who would talk to him, it was pretty much a given Jabari wouldn't of either, but he wanted to make sure.

"With females hating me with a passion?" Jabari drawled, honestly amused, "Tons of them. My harem of haters grows larger with every passing day. Each and every one of them dreams of sneaking into my pallet at night... to rip my throat out. Especially the huntresses. Pissing off females that kill animals larger than us on a daily basis seems to be my new found hobby."

"You scare me sometimes." Tasso huffed. Though the idea of a lioness hating him so much that they would sneak around in the dark of night attack Jabari was still closer than he had gotten to a girl in awhile.
"They talk to each other you know, and they never forget." He said in a whisper and in a tone almost as serious as the one he was using when talking about Sahen and the chosen one moments before. "One day your going to regret all this when your oh so lonely and lusting for the attention of one of our prides natural beauties. You'll find this nice lioness all alone, and she'll lead you on for awhile.... until she recognizes you as that Ligi who had pushed around her best friend."
Tasso nodded as he spoke to reinforce the importance of the coloration between chatty lionesses and a healthy love life. Jabari sometimes needed to get what he deserved for some of his behavior, but he would hate to see his brother be forever alone because he picked on a few huntresses.
