User ImageIt was just after twilight in the beginning of dusk when Esche woke from his nap. Blinking he looked at the sky, taking a moment to appreciate the beautiful colors painted across them. He hadn't meant to sleep that long, though he had felt worn out from his hunt earlier. Standing, he gave a long stretch before settling in a sitting position to observe the sky some more.

As the stars began twinkling one by one, Esche was hit with the sensation that he was lonely. It wasn't an uncommon feeling for him and usually he didn't let it bother him, but tonight he felt it more acutely then normal. Maybe it was because of the clear sky, vast and turning dark above him. More likely though it was the years of being alone finally beginning to wear on him.

Esche wondered if there were any others around he might spend some time talking with for a bit. Nothing too long or lasting, just enough to stave off the feeling that was overwhelming him. Standing again he picked a direction and began to wander hoping to run into someone.

Asha's day was uneventful and relaxing. She didn't have to hunt so she spent most of the day napping and now that the sun was setting and the stars were coming out she felt the urge to wonder. She hadn't gone far when she spotted a gray-tan figure of a lion siting in the moon light. He seemed to be watching the stars. Asha paused to see what the male would do and should she approach. She wouldn't mind company but she also knew that not everyone wanted some.

When the male got up and began to walk in her direction Asha knew that soon he would spot her. Rather then it be a 'surprise' greeting she called out, "Hello?"

It didn't take Esche long at all to find company tonight it would seem. He head a voice call out to him and he turned his head to look in the direction it was coming from. It looked like it was a purple lioness with white markings. Some of which seemed to be like the crescent moon and stars. He gave one more glance back upwards to the stars. It seemed significant somehow that a lioness marked like her should pop up so suddenly when he was contemplating the stars and his loneliness. He turned his attention back down from the heavens and back to his present situation however.

"Hello there." Esche called back out to her as he began to pad his way over. He took a slow calm pace, hoping that it would show he meant her no harm. "It's a lovely night out is it not?" His voice also came out calm and friendly and as he settled closer to her he sat himself down. He'd let her come the rest of the short distance between them if she wished it. He really hoped she did want to.

Asha smiled, apparently the male was friendly or at least not openly aggressive and in her book that was a good thing. "It is. The moon is beautiful tonight." She waited until the male sat down before closing the space in between them, still leaving personal space in between them. She sat and turned her face to the sky. "The stars are quite lovely. They twinkle like dew drops in a spider's web." Asha glanced at the male, from his gray mane to his gray tail he cut a striking figure and Asha wondered why he was out here all alone since he seemed like a lion who would have a pride if not just a family to be with. "I'm Asha by the way."

Turning to Asha, Esche gave a pleased nod. "I am Esche. It is good to meet you Asha." He enjoyed the way that she'd spoken of the stars. She had put such a vividly lovely picture in his mind. "Yes they do twinkle that way. You put that very poetically." The pleasure that gave him came through in his voice.

Esche found himself wondering why Asha was out here alone too. She didn't seem like the type to be off by herself to him. But then he knew that everyone had their own story to tell for why they were where they are. "I'm surprised to have come across another. Surprised but pleased." He admitted to her.

"And you Esche." Asha smiled at the male and nodded in thanks, "I just made a statement, its no less true for its poetic nature." She laughed softly and quickly apologized, "Sorry sometimes my mouth runs away with me. I meant no harm by it." She turned back to the stars and watched as they seemed to flicker in their own mysterious way. She smiled and looked back at Esche, "The feeling is mutual. It is always surprising when you come upon another in a seemingly empty expanse of land. I just felt the need to wander. You could say the stars called me." Again Asha laughed softly.

"I took no offense." Esche chuckled a bit. "I wasn't questioning your words, just enjoying the way your chose to form them." He explained his thinking behind calling them poetic. He too turned his face back towards the stars between occasional glances at Asha. He chuckled as she laughed softly, enjoying the sensation of laughing with another. "Wandering paws seems to be rather common out here it seems. It also comes as a surprise to me. So many beings with the need to wander." Perhaps it surprised him because part of him wanted a place to call home rather then to wander around. It seemed strange that so many others would want to wander when they had the option of having a home.

Asha smiled "I know I was just being strange." She laughed softly and studied the stars. Asha was many things but full of herself she was not. She had no problems laughing at herself or poking fun at her flaws, she had enough issues without finding the amusement in life.

"I think it might be the wide open spaces. So many want to see whats on the other side. I wander for a more fundamental reason normally but tonight it was just to enjoy the stars. Why do you wander?" Asha sometimes wished that she was back home with her mother but she also knew that they moved around a lot as well. With a silent sigh she decided that she would rather her mother still be alive.

Eche gave an agreeing hum as Asha talked about the wide open spaces. Though as soon as he was asked why he wandered, he realized he should have known this line of conversation would come to this. This was the second time he'd drifted into being asked that question lately and he wondered if maybe he was finally tired of keeping his guard up. Maybe he was looking for excuses to talk about it.

"Ah well..." Esche hesitated a little as he turned over thoughts in his mind, deciding how best to explain. "I suppose I wander because I thought it would be easier to be a lone wanderer. You can't lose people if you're already alone right? It's kind of stupid but... I've thought that was true for a long time..." He wondered if it did sound stupid to Asha.

Asha nodded. To her it made sense and she had the feeling that if she was younger when her mother passed that she would feel the same way. "You just drift from one place to another, meeting everyone and yet knowing no one. You don't grow attached so when you leave it doesn't hurt, or really, shouldn't hurt but its not always the case you know." She glanced over at Eche.

Living her life afraid that she might not see the dawn sometimes make Asha aware of how to live like that day, that moment, was her last. Times like this when she had gone a little while without the cough that haunts her did not mute her love of life for all its joys and sorrows. "I can't tell you how to live your life, nor will I, but I always thought of wandering as spreading little seeds of home. Everywhere you go and everyone you meet leaves some imprint upon your self as well as vice-versa. You can meet a person once and then months or years later you can meet them again and most times its like finding home for a brief moment...." Like Eche Asha had spent much time thinking about this, the fundamentals was her mother's thoughts but Asha built on them and adopted them until she was able to accept the pain of leaving friends just as the friendships were formed.

Esche was surprised by Asha's reaction. He didn't know exactly what it was he was expecting but if he'd had to pick one, this would not have been it. He was surprised that she understood it so perfectly and as she glanced at him he gave a confirming nod. He'd experienced before how it could be painful to part from others even after only knowing them a brief while. As she talked of her views Esche listened carefully. It was definitely and interesting thought and one that Esche had never really considered before.

"Yes... I've experienced the pain of leaving someone I am not yet attached to. But it seems a smaller pain compared to some. Your way of looking at things is interesting. It's definitely something I'll have to ponder. Honestly though I'm a little..." He paused as he thought of his next word. "Scared I guess... to think of anything as home." He heaved a bit of a sigh then shook his head at himself. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bring the conversation to something so depressing."

Asha smiled sadly. "It is understandable to be scared to think of anything as home or anyone as family since the pain can be quite, well, painful but if you dont take the chance and make the leap you just drift through life. You will make no mark and leave nothing behind." That was something that Asha had thought of long an hard. She didn't know when she would die but she knew that she wanted to leave some mark behind. Something or someone who would remember her when she no longer walked in the mortal realm.

She couldn't help but laugh at his comment about the conversation. "Esche you have no idea." Her smile wasn't mean but it did have quite a bit of humor in it.

Esche gave a hum of thoughtful understanding as Asha spoke again. Her words definitely struck a chord with him. He had been drifting for so very long and it had made him weary. He'd never really focused on that fact before, never letting himself think about where his life was going too long.

"Perhaps depressing was the wrong word, heavy though would be more accurate." He turned and gazed at her chuckling a little bit too. His face turned serious again though. "I am sad though that you have had depressing things happen in your life. You are very wise though, despite whatever those things may be. I've never really let myself think about it long I guess. But now I think that maybe I should. I don't know if I want to just continue drifting."

"I will concede to the word heavy." She laughed softly before turning back to the stars. "'I find hope in the darkest of days, and focus in the brightest. I do not judge the universe.(Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama) and wisdom is just something that we all gather as we go about our lives. If one pays attention enough that is." Asha smile at Esche before saying one more piece of wisdom, "It never really hurts to just try you know. 'If you have made mistakes, there is always another chance for you. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call "failure" is not the falling down, but the staying down. (Mary Pickford).'"

Esche found himself wondering how this other lioness became so wise. She said it was something gathered as they went about their lives but, it seemed that she had so much more of it then him. Maybe he hadn't been paying attention enough, he wondered. It hadn't occurred to him yet that he had his own form of wisdom tucked away. Though he was paying attention to the bits of wisdom offered to him now.

"You're right. You're very right. I really should just... try things more. Try to reach out to others more, maybe I'd be happier like that. Who knows." He turned to Asha and gave her a soft and grateful smile. "Thank you for sharing your wisdom with me Asha." He stood slowly. "I think I'm going to spend some time pondering over it some more. I hope our paths cross again one day."
