He'd spent the last few weeks flitting around his family, back and forth between his parents, Aleksei and Oberon, and his little faery sister, Etain, who typically got on his nerves more than he'd like...but now, with the fact that he was leaving--leaving them, leaving Mom, Dad, Etain...all of them--to follow what was quite possibly his destiny...he seemed to take it all in stride. Especially Etain... He'd even miss her, funny enough.
He ran miles in laps, sparring with his mother, who was a hard mare to pin down just a single emotion on. She was mixed, from what he could tell, between being pleased that Domovoi was going to protect, which was his duty as an Angeni-blood of her line...and being disappointed that he was leaving so early. What had she expected? Her children weren't just going to linger near Mommy and Daddy forever, were they? Their blood ran too strong: faerie and angel, both whimsical.
Domo left them when spring began to blossom the flowers in the fields and on the trees. He said a (rather teary, for him) goodbye to both parents--his father's eccentricities he'd miss the most, of course--and then Etain, scuffing a hoof against the ground and looking a little bashful.
But once he got on the path, the path to finding Niobe, his heart picked up speed. He found he'd missed her, in the time they'd been apart. He'd missed her quirky, beautiful smile and the silver threaded in her black-and-pink hair... And the way her cheeks blushed just a little when she smiled. His heart gave a flip. Ohyeah... Infatuated was probably a good word. He wasn't sure if that was good or bad, that he was attracted to the mare he was going to protect. Still he couldn't hide his feelings--he wore them with a goofy smile and mirthful ruby eyes.
He was so excited. He wondered if she felt the same...

Love was not what she was thinking about, she had given up the idea of it a long time back, after her first mate had cheated on her with her own mother, and then the pair of them had tried to kill her, but thankfully to her brother they had failed, but in turn lost their own lives, and she had lost the lives of the foals she'd been carrying during the attack.
But, it wasnt something she thought about. It had taken her years to move past it and only once in a while did it plague her thoughts, but it was the reason a touch of sorrow always seemed to reflect in her eyes no matter what she did.
Finally spring was starting to take its hold over the land, and as the flowers started to bud and even as a couple blossoms unfurled, it was what Niobe thought was the most wonderful time of year. Even now she pranced happily in the field of wild flowers, she fluttered her wings with delight and then buried her muzzle into the fresh smelling flowers and sighed happily.
Though, as she lifted her head, she looked around. He should be back soon, she thought with a flick of her tail, she had thought about him a great deal since they parted, and now she waited for him.

True, Domovoi had never been in love. Hell, he was still wet behind the ears and it didn't help that he was sheltered for the most part by his family...and strangely innocent without meaning to be. That was just who he was. He thought he was in love once--with a little filly he'd met in the field, one with the coolest horns growing from her skull--one his mother had chased off with a snarl. Poop. He'd been so bummed. The other foals never looked at him the same way.
It felt damn freeing to be loping along, his powerful legs moving easily, effortlessly as his hooves ate up the miles that separated him and Niobe. The soft, spring wind ruffled his mane, letting it flow in a wave of crimson behind him. It felt nice on his face and he found himself humming a jovial little tune as he pulled down to a trot, aware of the surrounding field of beautiful flowers.
He froze, stock-still as he saw her, black and baby pink against the blue sky and white clouds. He smiled, remembering the lilt of her voice, remembering the slight sadness in her eyes even when she smiled. He grew...softer, relaxing and headed towards her. He reached down, last-minute, and picked up a pale pink flower between his teeth, then pranced up to her and craned his neck. Ruby eyes all but smiled as he lifted a hoof and bowed his neck to her. "Mmfffly Nmmff." he said. Then, realizing he still had a mouth full of flowers, snorted with laughter. He dropped the flower at her feet and smiled, still as youthful and goofy as ever. "Hey..."

She all but jumped at his sudden presence, and that's what happened when you got lost in thoughts about someone, they randomly appeared to make your heart slam against your chest, she thought with a shake of her head.
But, at his mumbled words, and flower offering she found herself looking up to the ruby eyed stallion and laughing happily at his presence. "Hey.." She replied in return, before she picked up the pink flower, and tucked it away in her tail. "You know, they're beauty lasts much longer if you leave them on the vine." She said with a smirk.
Righting herself, she nudged his shoulder lightly, "Its great to see you again." She said with a nod of her head and a light flutter of her wings. "How did things go with your family?" she was curious of his family, and if his mother would ever approve of a mare such as herself, they had such very different views.

He wasn't aware that he'd frightened her, though he -did- wonder why she was staring off into space like that. He flicked his tail against the backs of his legs and shifted his weight to one side. Domo grinned when she picked up the flower and placed it among the silver charms and diamonds in her streaked tail. The color was just...splendid. Matched her well. He beamed inwardly at the choice, then focused on her words.
Glancing down at the flowers, he nodded. "Probably...at least until winter comes along again. I'm enjoying the warmth, myself... The snow was gorrrrgeous, don't get me wrong, but it was also...cold?" Duh. He shook his head, laughing at himself. "Obviously." A pause, considering his parents. "For my parents? They took it well. Strangely, I'm gonna miss my little sister, annoying habits and all. I couldn't tell if Mother was happy or upset that her baby bird was flying the nest. She's never really been real maternal, so I dunno if she can even -feel- that way?"
He could always visit them in the future, though...right? Maybe they'd be able to take a small vacation and flutter back to the field. Maybe he could even introduce Niobe to them and have them approve. Mother would probably be put off by the fact that he didn't choose an angeni for a...wait. Slow down there, he chided himself. Niobe was NOT his mate... He was going to protect her from the big-baddies that hunted her and threatened her--their--herd.
But he could always introduce her as a friend. He smiled.

"Yes, winter is beautiful in its own sterile sort of way. But I prefer the warmer days and the colors of it all." She nodded her head, and then laughed, "Yes, winter is cold." she shook her head with a giggle.
"I'm sure she is both happy and sad to see you go and yet happy that your able to go with all that shes taught." She flicked her tail. "Even if she couldn't be traditionally maternal it seems shes still done a wonderful job." She beamed a smile up at him.
"Yeah, siblings can be a touch of a pain. I've a twin brother..and oiy." she said with a shake of her head and a roll of her eyes. "Just wait, you'll get to meet him. He was extremely curious about you." She said with another shake and roll of her eyes and head.

Sterile... He had never thought of winter as sterile, but it fit, he decided. At her words, fall leaves came to mind in their orange brilliance, like little gold charms on a necklace of twine. When Niobe spoke of his mother, he found himself smiling: she hit the nail on the head, or at least that's what he was guessing too. Strange, how similar their minds worked. It was nice to find another faerie-born who understood him.
At her 'wonderful job' comment, he laughed and grinned broadly. "Thank you," he beamed. "I'd like to say I'm pretty...well rounded, yeah?" He looked down at her, itching to brush his nose against the velveteen of her muzzle, a strange impulse that he tucked away for later.
"Oh, really?" His eyes widened at the thought of her brother judging him. He pulled his ears back, looking quite foal-like for a moment. "He's not gonna...like...eat me, or something...right? Cuz that wouldn't fly." Then, realizing how he sounded, he laughed, short and nervous. The last thing he wanted was to get into a fight with her brother...

Her ears flicked a little as he stared at her in such a fashion, she wasnt used to it, and well another hadnt looked at her like that in such a long time, the ebony coated mare shifted her wings lightly before she tilted her head to the side. "Why were you looking at me like that?" she asked, curiosity got the better of her.
It usually did.
"Oh no, don't worry he wont eat you. Hes a unicorn and that would go against his beliefs." She said with a laugh and a shake of her head, "Though, he can be a touch over protective. But I think you two will get along fine.." She nodded her head, the pair had gone through plenty together and their bond was strong, but her brother trusted her.

Domovoi's eyes widened as she caught his gaze and, tipping her head ever-so-cutely, asked him why he'd been looking at her. He paused, pulling his ears back for a moment as he thought of something clever to say, but he could think of nothing. "Er. Well..." Holycows, here he went again. How did you say you admired someone's beauty without coming off stalker-y? "I...think you've very beautiful," he said after taking a deep breath and practically blurted it out. A blush creeped onto his face and he ducked his head to hide beneath his crimson bangs.
He just couldn't hide things from her...even if they were semi-important.
He was a little relieved when she reminded Domo that Benoni--was that his name? he thought so--was a unicorn and, therefore, would not eat him. "Well that's good then!" he said, then softer: "I hope he doesn't feel the need to protect you from me... I wouldn't hurt someone like you." The goofy smile crept back into place, even as much as he inwardly cursed it off.

At his words, stating he thought she was beautiful she was grateful for such a dark coat as her face flushed with a deep blush. "Im sure you tell that to all the mares." She teased him playfully as she nudged his shoulder with her muzzle.
"Well, thats always a plus to know. But I dont think I've anything to fear from you Domovoi." She said with a smile as she fluttered her wings in a breeze that passed through the field. "Though, I think you both will get along just fine." She nodded her head with a smile. "Though, it matters little because I trust you."

He didn't see her blush, but he could feel a change in energy around her; he was perceptive to -some- things at least. Though as she met his eyes, he grew solemn, his smile wistful. "What other mares?" he asked. "I'm...not very..." He paused, fishing for a word, looking thoughtful, then gave up and shrugged. "Just you," he smiled. And, strangely, he was fine with that. Usually around girls, he got all fumbly and dumb-struck. But Niobe was...different. He felt at ease, able to be himself.
He beamed at her words: she obviously felt good around him too...else she wouldn't say that. "I'm not scary," he chuckled lightly, but her saying 'i trust you' wrapped around his heart and made him sigh lightly. Still...he wore that damn goofy grin. "So...where to, Niobe?" he asked after a moment of silence, regarding her easily.
