Valentine's Day was for singles too, it's what he kept telling himself as he wheeled his way towards their designated meeting place. There was -nothing- wrong with meeting up with a friend just to spend time with someone on this holiday meant for couples!
...Even if the person you were meeting up with -used- to be your boyfriend. ...Right?
Despite the inner turmoil, despite the (SUPERAWESOME) wheelchair and the knee that was giving him so much trouble. Despite all this crap, Demetri Wright still managed to have a huge grin on his face while he waited for Zac to show up to their meeting place in the park. He had hooked a bag on the back of his wheelchair, his present to Zee contained within.
That grin was earning him a few stairs. No doubt -someone- here thought the kid was wired on crack or something.
...Well sugar, maybe. ...Okay definitely. Definitely sugar.

"...How's the knee?" the first question out of Zac's mouth, perhaps not unexpected either. He glanced at it and back with a wry look, he was still a bit miffed that neither he nor Faya had been the one to pick up the blond at the Hospital, not even a call on that front but... he'd excused it on the grounds that it -was- Dem's Lieutenant whom had done the duty.
Man there were a lot of people wearing red today, hadn't the Chinese New year already passed? He blinked as someone further down one of the path's in the park knelt to their companion, huh... you didn't get to see -that- often.
Wait...
Wait...what day was it again?"
A frown crossed his face suddenly and he pulled out his phone to check the date. The red that -bolted- across his cheeks was familiar as he stuffed the phone back in his pocket.
"Ah....hmmm" He said awkwardly... s**t...no card (friends or otherwise) ...no candy... no nothing... AND he'd accepted the invitation.

"The knee...." Demy stared at it a moment before deciding to answer in his usual manner. "It's fine! I'm okay! How are you?"
And for a moment he was content in being silent and maybe letting Zee respond.
But then he instead started to babble at a mile a minute.
"Sorry I didn't call you after the stuff at the hospital but I needed to go home and I'm home now and stuff's kind of weird but it's getting better! But but today I wanted to see you and I know we're not...you know..." Here he paused again, the tiniest hints of tears starting before he brushed them away and just continued on. "Er...together, but...there's nothing wrong with me giving you something right? Is that okay? Cause I have something for you and it wasn't that easy getting around to get it but I still WANTED to and..."
Still babbling on he awkwardly dug around in the bag until he could find the present, then pulled it out and held it out for Zee to take.
Predictably it was a panda.
Unpredictably it was a white and red panda, with glowstick bracelets and a guitar hero bandanna around it's head.

"Um... I kind of..." Zac said feeling awkward and taking the panda and squeezing it in his hands to feel its fabric and 'squish-ability' ... it was dubbed, in the back of his mind. 'TenaciousObfuscation' for reasons best left known only to Zac and his strange panda naming tendencies.
"I... sort of forgot...that it was Valentines day." He said and cleared his throat again, though his expression did say part of him wondered why it had been observed at all, though Zac had always said he thought it was a holiday designed to make an extra class room activity in grade school and in order to sell candy and greeting cards to make up for the dip in sales after Halloween.

Well crap, now he felt like a dumbass. He had questioned getting Zee a present for reasons he already mentioned, but had reasoned that wanting to buy a friend a present was no big deal right! Even if it was on...well, this day.
Here Zee hadn't even realized what day it was.
...Sigh.
"T-that's okay! I just...wanted to get you...something."
Awkwaaaaard.

"Ah... so..."
A pebble was nudged to the sidewalk edge, the sound of it clattering over the cold concrete was of immense importance as he sat wishing that he were at least slightly less socially oblivious sometimes... but only sometimes.
"Um...I can...treat for tacos in thanks... push...the wheelchair...something..." He trailed off and chewed his lip slightly. An old habit that meant he was playing chess with fewer pieces than he would have liked. Rather that was the metaphor he would have used.

He had to laugh a bit at that.
"Aww thanks man, but thankfully I don't have to push this thing around...er unless the battery runs out. But yeah! It's motorized so I can still get around and stuff...I get kinda tired easily, heh."
Tired easily? Him? That in itself was an odd thought.
"...I wouldn't force you into tacos though, I know you probably don't like em as much as I do huh? Pretty hard for -anyone- to like them as much as I do!"
The blonde fidgeted a bit, that silly grin working it's way back across his face.
"I...wouldn't mind doing something though! If you don't mind hanging out with a gimp, heh."

"What did you have in mind?" he asked tilting his head. "And please... you have spent a good part of the time I have KNOWN you in various stages of gimp-dom...this is just the cake topper, PLEASE try not to top this one though, I think next on the list would have to be 'fractured spine' and I don't even want to think about 'yoma back bone' ok?" there was a bit of tease there, though he had every bit of cautious respect for Tanzinite's 'prosthetic'

"...I dunno." He confessed. Not...that he had ever been good at planning to begin with. "Uh..something? Anything? Stuff!"
Oh yeah, he was just totally awesome at planning these sorts of things. Really though, he just wanted to spend time with Zee!
"...Fractured spine sounds not so fun. Knee's bad enough dude, I miss walking, and running, and dancing and jumping around and...all that stuff. As for being tired...unfortunate side effect of pain killers. And it sucks, I hate being so tired all the time ARGHH!"
If only he could get up and run damn circles around Zee.

"Well roller derby is out." He said with a touch of tease that was more to cover his own edginess than to try and make Dem feel bad about his 'current condition' to be sure.
"...Where are places that you like that are...'temporary invalid friendly'? He pushed the subject of making Schee choose, not because he lacked placed he himself liked to go, but more because he wanted Dem to make the decision.

"Oh sure... if you can capture a Duck on your own you can take it -right- back to your Lieutenants apartment and tell her there is a new order concerning care of mallards." He was at least partially sarcastic, but hell...as long as it wasn't the Dorm -whynot-?
