Much to her own displeasure, Chailai wasn't with her mother on this day. Instead, she was with the father who'd never seemed to like her before, sullenly holding onto his hand while her other hand clung to a small stuffed animal that had been made to look like her mother; it was her favourite. Though, something for her to be happy about was the fact that she was going to a pet store today, to pick up a small creature to help keep her company ( the underlying hope being that it would take the place of her mother needing to be around at all times ).

Deux was just as unhappy with the arrangement as the girl. Like he had said the night she'd arrived, he didn't want any part in her life. It may seem cold, but she was just not his daughter. He didn't want to commit to caring for her; it wasn't his choice, so it wasn't his responsibility. His opinion of her had only gone down the more that she clung to his Trois, taking up all of his attention and time and leaving Deux with even more frustrations ever day. Thankfully, Trois had recognized this as well, and so the quest for a pet began. Deux lightly held onto the child's hand as they looked around, before he pointed to a large light brown-and-white guinea pig. "What abowt tha' theng? Et's cute, right? Looks friendleh enough."

The little girl stood on her tiptoes, peering at the critter and tipping her ears forward. It was at that moment that the critter let out a high-pitched squeaking noise that pierced her sensitive ears in a terrible way, and she jumped back, blinking the tears out of her eyes. "It is too loud, I zhink," she said quietly, tail swishing and lowering slightly behind her. "Too loud for my ears."

Perhaps it was just by chance that Chailai and her reluctant companion were looking for a new family member in the very pet store that Llujah was in, or perhaps it was serendipity. All that Llujah knew was that he had absolutely nothing to do, and that fact was clawing at his insides.

He knew all the nooks and crannies of this particular pet shop, for it was directly adjacent to the veterinary clinic that his mother worked at and he frequented its shelves often. As such, there was nothing new to find if he perused the merchandise. He knew and was known by nearly all of the store personnel, exempting the teenage interns. Because of that, he had no one new to talk to. All he had to go on was some chance customer come to search for a pet.

Unfortunately, Llujah had yet to come upon such a customer this day, and he decided to amuse himself by watching the mice run themselves ragged in their little cages. He made his way over to the rodent aisle and was surprised to find two very interesting customers standing in front of his usual rodent-watching vantage point. Llu blinked in surprise and calmly walked their way. He stopped himself near the pair, bending at the knees to gaze into one of the lower shelved cages. As he did, he glanced over at the little girl close by to him and smiled. "These pets are pretty cute, don't you think?"

As usual, Chailai wasn't expecting to be spoken to by anyone who wasn't a guardian of her's. At the comment from the other, she squeaked in surprise and hid behind the hand that she was holding, ears flipping back against her hair as she glared softly at the tall newcomer for disturbing her so. Cautiously, she snuck out from behind the hand, letting her expression soften, emotion passing just as most toddler's emotions did. She shook her head before pausing, one of her ears tipping up just a bit.

"Zhey are cute, oui, but zheir noises 'urt my ears," she said sadly, tipping her head to the side and looking around. From what she could tell, the boy looked like he worked here... so why shouldn't she ask him for help. Hesitantly, she looked up at him once again. "Are zhere small, cute zhings zhat do not make squeal noises?"

"Yeah, they unfortunately do that sometimes. Watching them run about is pretty fun, though." Llujah chuckled a little bit and looked back down at this interesting little girl. She liked she would be some type of spawn, but for the life of him, Llu could not place the defining characteristics to any one angel or demon. Perhaps she was of some sin and virtue he had not met yet...? In any case, she was too precious for words, and Llu could not help but smile at her cute little French accent.

"Other small, cute things...? Hmm, let me see..." Llu considered the question and pondered on it. Finally, he came to a conclusion and grinned at the young girl. "Oh, sure there are! There are some really cute baby snakes over there..." He pointed to an aisle nearby. "...If you want to see them, that is." Llu's tail swished from side to side happily.

One of the little kitten's ears flicked gently, and she gave a bit of a nod in response to the fact that it was unfortunate, the noises that they made. Her green eyes flicked back toward the small creatures curiously and she frowned, the tip of her tail flicking softly. It was certainly fun to watch them running around, but no more fun than watching fish swim. If she just wanted little creatures that were amusing to watch but not interact with, she would be perfectly fine getting an array of fish. Honestly, thinking about it, she thought that might be rather fun, especially if she got a ton of the prettier, more exotic fish for her tank. Then again... a friend, first.

"Baby snakes...? Oui, I would like to see zhem, as well. Or zhe ozher sings zhat live over zhere wizh zhem," Chai replied with a serious nod of her head, a gesture that told the male to lead the way toward the reptiles. She followed after him, eyes on the heels of his shoes, dresses fluttering around her ankles as she walked. The toddler squeaked when they arrived, jumping back to keep from running into the other when they reached the creatures, looking around at all of the different cages. Her ears flicked gently as she looked at the various creepy-crawlies, shying away from the scorpions and tarantulas, but peering with interest at some of the others: Hermit crabs, garden snakes, crested geckos... they certainly were cute little scaly critters, weren't they?

Llu smiled kindly at the little girl at his side and stood, happy to lead the way. "Sure! They're right over here, so let's go see them, 'kay?" He walked past the older companion of the girl, muttering an "excuse me" as he squeezed past him. In his mind, Llujah immediately identified the male as an Eilian: he had all the right characteristics. What kind of Eilian he was Llu did not know. But the fact that he was here... It really was a small world.

They arrived at the correct aisle, and Llu quickly walked over to the snake cages. Indeed, it did have a small pile of very small, scaly snakes inside, all newly hatched. They squiggled and squirmed around all over each other, and it was rather adorable. Llu looked back to his small friend and pointed into the cage. "Here, see! There's a bunch of the snakes in here! Aren't they cute?"

He noticed the girl shying away from the various spiders and scorpions in the cages nearby, and he smiled reassuringly. "Oh, don't worry about those guys. They won't bite you. If they do, though..." He gave a fake snarl and clamped his teeth together. "I'll be sure to get them back for you!"

"Oui, zhey are quite cute..." Chailai agreed, looking at the little snakes with only half a glance before letting her eyes go back to the creatures she'd been observing beforehand. The young girl's green eyes had settled on the fancy hermit crabs; odd little creatures who hobbled around beneath painted shells. The little spawn giggled softly at the small creatures, bending down to peer at them more closely. She wasn't sure which of them she liked more; all of them were cute in their own little ways.

Chailai chuckled a little off-handedly at the fake growling, tail lowering just a bit as her ears did the same. The little one gave a bit of an awkward little smile and nodded, though she was more afraid of them simply because, well, they were rather creepy little things. Regardless, she had made her choice. "Do jou work 'ere, or can jou get someone 'o does?" the little girl asked politely, giving the cross-dresser a soft smile as she looked back toward the hermit crabs, tail swaying rather happily.

Llujah smiled at the young spawn girl, noticing her interest in the little hermit crabs nearby. He peered into the cage along with her, noticing the different pattens and designs painted onto their shells; no two were exactly the same. All were like tiny treasures of their very own. That thought lifted Llu's heart a bit.

He looked at Chailai in slight surprise at her question, having been caught off guard. Someone who worked here...? Well... He was here often enough, and he knew most of the animals and what-needed-what... Technically, he could be called a staff-member, right? But if he screwed up, he would be completely ripped a new one... He might as well get one of the employees.

"All right, I'll go see if I can find someone. Just wait right here, 'kay?" Llujah backed away from the cages and set off at a brisk pace to find someone who could possibly help the little girl. Oh, how he wished he could just do it himself! Would save him a whole lot of trouble...

After wandering the aisles for a few minutes, Llujah came upon one of the senior employees: a woman in her 20s or so with a nose piercing who was currently restocking the shelves with pet bedding. Llu casually sidled up to her and poked her arm to get her attention. "Heeeyyyy, Casey? Can you come help me for a second, please?" The woman being poked frowned and glared at the spawn.

"No. Get someone else to do it. I'm busy," she said. Llu pouted and tugged at the woman's shirt sleeve.

"Come on! Pleeeaaaa-"

"No. Now leave me alone unless you want me to get the manager out here again."

Llujah folded his arms, thoroughly disgruntled. If she wants to be responsible for losing a customer, that's her problem. He stormed off in the opposite direction, heading back towards the little girl he was assisting. After he relocated her, he shrugged. "I'm sorry... I can't find anyone. But... maybe I could help you? I do know some things about the animals."

Chailai watched with mild disinterest as the boy -boy?- moved away to find one of the staff members, eyes flicking up to her Papa instead. Gently, she tugged on one of his shirt sleeves, ears tipping back and eyes getting a bit bigger, tail drooping to the floor. It was a painted picture to anyone that she was about to ask him for something and, lo-and-behold: "Papa...? May I please 'ave a 'ermit crab? Zhey are but small and do not look like zhey are 'ard to take care of... a-and jou did say zhat you wanted to buy me a pet, oui...?"

Deux sighed heavily and made a strange gesture, as if he was cracking his shoulders. It was clear that he wasn't happy about being asked, and (in his mind) for good reason; every store they went into, she pulled this trick, all big eyes and quivering lip. Trois fell for it like a sucker every single time - only exacerbating Deux's frustrations - but the ferret tried to resist as much as he could. He didn't want to become a puppet in her little game.

And yet... He looked away, hesitation written clear on his face. Why would he allow her to come in here and not get something? That wasn't being strong or forceful, that was just being a d**k. Trois already called him that enough; he didn't want to give him any ammunition. Cooly ignoring the girlboy's irritating comments, he glanced at the prices of the little shelled creatures. Hm, cheap. That was good. One more sigh, and then Deux finally turned back to face his unwanted daughter.

"...fine. Yah know what, fine. Go wit' yer lil' friend here 'nd pick out some. Make shure yah talk to a pet person so yah know wat's up. I'll wait here." Raising up his hand, he flicked his fingers dismissively, a grim half-grin on his face. There. Trois can leave him alone for a while now.

For one of the first times around her Papa, Chailai let a big wide smile cross her face, bouncing on her toes and turning around, squeaking in surprise when the boy appeared suddenly. Softly, she pouted at the fact that he hadn't brought someone back. She shook her head when he offered information, tail drooping slightly and ears tipping back once again. "I need someone 'o works 'ere. To get me some of zhe cute little zhings. I am going to buy some of zhem. And little care sheets because my Mama is zhe only one 'o can read well."
